Saw that Croatia's game against Azerbaijan will be played in Zagreb. Considering this is likely to be the lowest attended game in the group, its pretty much guaranteed our game will be played there.
Although anything is possible with the Croatian FA.
good, as i have all travel and accommodation done now.

I've seen a few posts and tweets all suggesting that it more than likely be in Zagreb, but can't find them now to see the rationale for it. What's the general consensus as to where the game will most likely be played?
The joys of planning for WalesAway......

My understanding is they won’t play in Split because of the Dinamo/Hadjuk rivalry. Only game there was the behind close doors one with the swastika protest. Could be Rijeka or Osijek but surely we are their biggest rivals in the group (pot2) so would play in Zagreb?

Anyone planning to travel to Croatia away via Wonky Sheep? I haven't done an away for ages and the Wonky Sheep trip seems like a good opportunity for solo travellers to network.

Networking in Croatia will be very easy - I expect around 3k will be over. If you can fly out of Manchester, very decent connections using Austrian and/or Lufthansa return flights are around £160-£180. Personally, I'd recommend staying at a Youth Hostel - and the official HI hostel near the Station is as good a bet as any. I imagine dozens of Welsh at the hostel - of all ages. Some eccentrics ( ) that actually visit museums and go to the opera and some hard core drinkers ;-)
Id say, flights, hostel accommodation, meals, a few drinks and connections to the airport/match will be around £300 Friday to Monday and around £350 Thursday to Monday (especially if you fancy Ljubljana).
Note that the Wonky Sheep flight is Stansted to Ljubljana ...
If you have time, Ljubljana is certainly worth an overnight. Fly either there on Thursday or out of there on Monday for an extra £30 or so + £10 (2-hour) train

We did Lufthansa from BHX. We're booked in the HI Hostel. I think it's only beds in dorms or shared bathrooms remaining now.

Currently, 3 nights at the HI cost single room - £71 double room - £111 one bed in a 4-bed dorm - £35
pay 8% of total cost when booking, the rest at the hostel. You may cancel up until a day before (free of any additional charge).
BIRMINGHAM From what I can see, Thurs-Monday there are great connections from BHX for £176 Thursday to Sunday even better value for £165
Friday to Sunday also good connections for £185

For those that want to hedge their bets for either Zagreb or Split, From Barcelona Vueling have Friday 7th flights to Split (£70) and on Saturday 8th flights to Zagreb (£52). Usually it is cheap enough to get to Barcelona.

Just beware boys alot of these flights to Zagreb have very little transfer times. Anything under an hour and your risking it. Your usually covered for delays via airline booking.
if booking outside of the airline. These can be 4 seperate flights. and you may have to check in for flight from Stopover location and wont be covered for delays. I booked via kiwi and had to check in at istanbul for georgia which was very tight as tranfer check in and security was a nightmare.

We should know the venue by 8th Feb: Praying for Zagreb. Do not fancy a 12 hour roundtrip on a coach. We probably all are. Mainly as its the biggest ground which they only seem to sell out for their really big games. Must be a good chance of getting a tidy allocation. Fingers crossed for 10% around 3.5k. I see they've played 5 of their last 13 competitive fixtures behind closed doors so we may all be watching it in the bar if they don't behave in their March home game.

Any recommendations for sightseeing or the opera then?! Would love to visit Dubrovnik if I go, but just realised it's a 6 hr train ride from Zagreb 😩

Another lovely option is TRIKO CIRKUS TEATAR as well as the Zagreb Puppet Theatre.
I will certainly post a info sheet sometime in February ... after submitting my Tax thing ;-(

It really makes no financial sense at all playing a SATURDAY afternoon fixture away from their largest stadium. Not that I am one to blow the Welsh trumpet (well ... maybe I am) ... but I'd say - with all else being equal - Wales is a bigger pull than their Hungarian neighbours will be.
I'd say it is only between Zagreb and Split - which both hold hold 35k ;
Osijek holds 19k Rijeka and Pula only hold 10k
The only logic of holding it in Split, would be if the FAW tell them that we want 4000 tickets (quite possible) and the Croatians feel we would spend more €€€ in Split ...
If it was mid-week I'd be more worried about it moving to Osijek, but I don't think it will this time ;-)

As previously posted I doubt it will be in Split. Davor Suker (Croatian FA chairman) is heavily involved with Dinamo Zagreb and no love is lost between them and Hadjuk Split. www.total-croatia-news.com/sport/23686-after-split-mayor-hajduk-president-responds-to-suker-you-have-become-one-of-hns-biggest-problemsThat is why the last game in Split was held behind closed doors (first game there in 10 years) and a swastika was cut into the pitch as a protest against the “Nazi Croatian FA” (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33120517) Now these were the words of a Split fan to me a few years back so take it with a pinch of salt but there may be some logic there hence why games have been held in Osijek (another ex-team of Sukers) and Rijeka. For me, Split is the nicer city though with more to do. If basing yourselves there then try and spend some time in Plitvice on the way (fabulous lakes! No beer though)

Anybody booked their buses - with either Leigh or Wonky Sheep - between Zagreb and Budapest?
I'm wondering what time the buses are leaving?
I notice that FlixBus have numerous departures between the two at 15GBP with the journey scheduled to be between 4 and a half and 5 hours.
