Grandparent rule is for the countries in the UK. I'd imagine he's have *actually* qualified for China through some kind of residential rule (hence why they wanted him to play for one of their clubs before representing the national team). Perhaps he would count towards their quota after naturalisation (which may be quicker with great-grandparent heritage?) Italy don’t use the “grandparent” rule as you can get a passport for them if you’re great grandparents are from Italy hence Jorginho. To qualify for a passport in most EU countries you need a grandparent from that country and then most countries allow you to qualify if you have a passport so my understanding is that in most countries grabby rule stands and it would seem to certainly stand in China

Maybe I'm mixing them up with Qatar

Always thought it would be case for me. When he played for us you could tell he could play at a higher level. I think where Bournemouth are too the dynamic changes from getting promoted and dominating the Championship to being in the prem and often being second best in games.
You need a clinical striker and between Solanke and Kieffer. Kieffer is country miles ahead of him.

Starts at Anfield, Solanke on the bench Surprised by how much Kieffer's played this season It’s not a surprise based on his performances, he holds the ball up and links the play well even at prem level. Looks like he’s forced Solanke on to the bench. Just hope he doesn’t fall victim to the big scores Bournemouth have racked up during these tough opening fixtures

They’ve played Man City & Liverpool both away and Arsenal at home within the first 4 games. Can’t get a tougher start! At least they won their opening game.

Was just idlely watching sky sports when the random Premier league stats were running on the screen, Keifer, leading on most fouls won ! Maybe he's adapting or is it just English refs "get" his type of player, btw Neco leading on tackles won!

A bit ominous that Parker’s sacking results in Moore being dropped for Solanke. He’s played well for them in the bits I’ve seen so far so no reason for him to be dropped on footballing ability terms…

Really concerned for him now. A time wasting sub today with Bournemouth having won as well. It’s really harsh too as he’d been playing as well as could be expected considering Bournemouth were having a tough run of games with minimal possession. Very likely he could be going into the World Cup under cooked.

Is it me or has he really improved in the last 12 months? Obviously his goal threat remains but he seems leaner and fitter about the pitch now also? Holds the ball up better, plays in team mates etc etc. Thoughts?

Holds the ball up better, plays in team mates etc etc. Thoughts? He did some good things tonight and scored a real centre forward's goal. But he gave the ball away cheaply and dangerously at times too. Not sure he's improved. He does what he has always done for us - which, in the absence of anyone better, will do for me.

Holds the ball up better, plays in team mates etc etc. Thoughts? As I said upthread he’s played well for Bournemouth this season playing a target man role. It just coincided with their run of games against top teams and Parker’s sacking. The first thing the assistant manager did was drop Moore and he’s annoyingly picked up results, albeit in easier fixtures. Moore has been reduced to a time wasting sub role recently and it’s really undeserved given how well he has held the ball up and linked the play before Parker’s sacking.

I still don't think we play to his strengths. The service we give him is appalling considering how dominant he can be inside the box. He must be incredibly frustrated dealing with poor delivery after poor delivery.

I love him, I absolutely love him. As much as I like and admire beautiful football there aren't many things better in football than a tall strapping centre forward battering defenders and scaring the life out of them in the air.

Really don’t like DJ taking corners, particularly when Neco’s on the pitch who theoretically should have better delivery. I’m not a massive fan of short corners either. Wish they’d put it straight in the mixer more.

I get that we float crosses a lot to play to Kieffer's strengths, but I think we could equally benefit from more whipped deliveries. Kieffer can still get on the end of them
Against a team like Belgium I feel we should be crossing a lot more

Wish they’d put it straight in the mixer more. Yeah one or two of DJ's corners were terrible, just floated in for Courtois to gobble them up. But he did put in one great freekick which led to that Rodon/Ampadu chance saved off the line. Have to disagree on short corners - let's not forget that's how we scored our second goal against Austria. Mixing it up and working a different angle is a worthwhile thing to do. There's a reason why practically every team does it these days.

Anyone else think it was a mistake not to start him last night? Our most proficient goalscorer over the last few years, scoring important goals, needed to start.

Anyone else think it was a mistake not to start him last night? Our most proficient goalscorer over the last few years, scoring important goals, needed to start. In hindsight, yes. But Bale started in the hope he'd produce the magic he's capable of, and he went closest to getting a goal for us. I don't blame Page for opting for him. The system employed didn't suit both Bale and Moore in my view.

I like Moore, but they had a very big team and it would have been a hard shift for possibly not much in return. I’d have done what Page did to be honest.

Came on for Solanke, who picked up an injury, just before half time. He played well, was dominant in the air and set up a couple of chances his teammates should have done better with. Didn't get a chance of his own unfortunately. Hopefully Solanke will be out for a bit so that Moore gets a run of games

He's come along way since he first came on the scene. I think he'd have fluffed an opportunity like that back then, but that's a lovely composed finish. Will be crucial against Iran in particular I feel
