My team giving the relevant people minutes Ward (Full 90) Neco Lockyer Rodon Lawrence Gunter Levitt Morrell Jonny Matondo Tyler Cabango>Rodon Smith>Morrell Johnson>Jonny D.James>Matondo Sheehan>Levitt Kieffer, Mepham, Bale, Davies, Ampadu, Wilson, Brooks should not be anywhere near this game. Wilson is suspended from the RoI match, so makes sense to play him for 90 mins in this. I'd also add J Williams to those who shouldn't play against the USA.

Agree that they won’t be pushovers, they’ve a host of good players- but i’d like to see the fringe players tbh: Davies (to get used to int footy) Gunter Cabango Lockyer RND Vaulks Ampadu Woodburn Johnson Rabbi Tyro Ampadu and RND and possibly Tyler to play 45”. Levitt and Davies, Amps and RND, with Tyro making way for Rodon and switch to the 3-4-3. Don’t mind about the other subs. Not that anyone gives a toss, but this is my revised line-up: Ward Gunter Lockyer Lawrence RND Sheehan Morrell Johnson Smith Rabbi Tyro Levitt on for Morrell after 60. Think Joseff needs minutes in his legs. Other than that don’t mind who gets subbed. I do really hope Brennan Johnson gets a game though, he deserves it due to his form and the amount of times he’s been the unlucky one not to make the matchday squad.

I'm surprised no-one seems to be selecting Tom Lawrence??
In light of the news that we'll be captain by Gunter, a revised line up, 5-2-3:
Ward
N Williams - Gunter - Rodon - Lockyer - Davies
Smith - Wilson
Johnson - Roberts - Lawrence

Looking at the press conference, Page name checks him, so hopefully he’s involved in some capacity at the very least. Totally forgot about Tom Lawrence, I’d have him over Smith actually, and Johnson as a 10.

We need to be given the younger players every opportunity to play in international matches. Otherwise they will not develop. What better opportunity than a friendly against a decent team that will also play youngsters. In light of that, my team would be.... Ward Neco Gunter Rodon Lockyer RND Levitt Smith Matondo Roberts Johnson

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Tom actually starts.
Would like to see Tom have a half v USA to get him back into sync with the team, as he has been out of the squad since Sep 2019.

He's our most inconsistent player, and that's a high bar to top! He's never pushed on to produce more consistent performances. He'll produce something special in one game, and then go quiet for the next 7 or 8. He's more inconsistent than Harry Wilson. He also hasn't scored at all in 7 games this season, and he doesn't offer much else apart from goalscoring capability. I feel like we should focus on our other wide forward options until he starts performing again at championship level. I'd much rather we focus on Johnson and Martondo.

There is no reason to play first choice players, give the squad players the match practice they need not only for fitness, but to make them feel they are part of the team. Plenty need game time anyway, so if your going to experiment this is the time to do it.

I wouldn't exactly single him out for inconsistency from our lot, I'd argue Wilson, James, Ramsey and even Bale have been equally as inconsistent over the past few years. He also has just as good of a goal ratio as Wilson, Brooks and D James.

Tom Lawrence doesn't contribute much at all to our general play. I guess you could make a comparison with Bale in that both players are more known for their moments of brilliance than running games, it's just that Bale is about a 100x better at it. There's no comparison at all with Ramsey imo.

They've scored the same amount for Wales but just looking at their records in the Championship, Lawrence has 36 goals in 210 games whilst Wilson has 24 games in 58 games They may both drift in and out of games (like most wingers), but Wilson is a lot more likely to do something than Lawrence. Wilson's also shown decent work rate for Cardiff this season, something I wouldn't necessarily associate with Lawrence

I still want to see the James wingback experiment happen - I'd start RND in both competitive games so it's a good time to rest him and try something different. To enable the James experiment I'd start Davies as LCB and take him off at HT
I think Gunter starting as captain is confirmation that we'll start with a back 3. It's hard to figure it out with what we'll do with the other CBs with current form/fitness & it's not completely clear which position in the back 3 they'd be favoured, so that will be interesting to see
Morrell needs minutes so he starts - for me alongside Sheehan who is worth looking at in a friendly over Levitt. I think Ampadu-Smith will start the Ireland game so best chance for Sheehan to be involved
Again with the front 3 it's a bit of a guess. I'm thinking Tyler will most likely start, I'd also give Matondo a game as he looks like he's improving and deserves another cap. Brennan I think we all want to see, and just like Sheehan now is probably the best opportunity to start him
Ward Gunter-Lockyer-Davies Neco-Morrell-Sheehan-James Tyler-Brennan-Matondo
That backline actually looks solid/experienced and the midfield/forwards young and exciting. Should be an interesting game tonight

It’s an indication of how much our strength in depth has increased in that if you take the starting line-up against Trinidad & Tobago last year, hardly anyone was featuring for us on a regular basis. Now nearly everyone who starts tonight could slot into our first choice XI & not look out of place.
