If we’re only taking three strikers, I’d feel far more confident seeing HRK come on for Moore than Vokes. And Roberts appears to be a different type of forward based on his club career.
It’s a tricky one, no doubt.

Crass and no class. Shocking from Hal to be honest.
Shows a complete lack of respect for the FAW and players.
Would he be thinking of coming out of retirement if we hadn’t qualified? Think we all know the answer to that one

Think we all know the answer to that one Yes, bad form. I loved the way he played for us and loved what he did in the Euros but was very disappointed in him when he retired at 29. It really annoys me that the fans still sing his name during games (although less so recently) rather than concentrating on those who are still out there putting a shift in. It would be different if he'd had to retire because of injury.

Irrelevant because Giggs wasn’t picking him before he retired.

This is probably why I shouldn't be a football manager but there's no way I'd even consider him. This is incredibly crass.
Footballer wants to end his self-imposed exile less than seven days after his country qualified for a major tournament. "Is it because they qualified?" "No it's because I want to help the team!" Colour me sceptical.
Bale and Rambo are both the same age, would both benefit more from retirement (travel and injuries), and still turn up for pretty much every game (injuries excepted).
This just smacks of self-interest and wanting to free-ride on the hardwork of others. I'm sure he'll retire in August and we'll ask whichever poor sod missed out on going to the finals to show up for the Nations League/ WC qualification.

really disappointed with HRK. and if i'm honest, unless we have a massive injury crisis, i wouldn't want Giggs to pick him... even if it did improve the team. In some of the squad talk there are quite a few of us not picking vokes in the 23 even before Hal came out of retirement, so not sure how likely it is that he'll actually get in.

This is just weird. I assumed he retired because Giggs kept omitting him from squads. Giggs didn't or doesn't rate him so what has changed? I would have loved to see him in the team over the last 18 months but I don't think he should be given a place at the finals over those who have turned up consistently. It's not like he's Ibrahimovich or Messi is it?

Not good if true. Bit of a cheek really, but he could certainly help out being in the squad. Not first or second pick now though.
He did well for us and I was disappointed when he 'retired'.

The cynic in me's thinking he's thought about how much he gained personally from playing in the last euros (raised profile and the WBA move) and is hoping for some more. I doubt it's for altruistic / patriotic reasons. He would be a handy squad member though, I suspect he'd be far more effective than vokes/roberts/bradshaw etc. in replacing moore for the last 20mins - be it to hold onto a result or chasing a goal

Didn't he retire to concentrate on his tech businesses and club career?
Am i right in saying he retired last summer (i.e. only been 3 games under Giggs - China Cup and Mexico)? He can hardly say he wasnt given a chance under Giggs as he left before the Nations League.
We were desperate for a striker in those games and early in qualifying - where was he then? Cant say he's covered himself in much glory here - will always be a hero but retiring at 29 was very disappointing

Not for me. Only if there's three or four attacking injuries should he be considered.
Wasn't there when we needed him, hasn't contributed to qualifiying, and there are younger players playing at a higher standard in the Championship in his position.
I know he's scored a few goals recently for West Brom, but their fans are far from convinced still.

Imo Vokes offers us absolutely nothing yet I would still pick him ahead of HRK. Let’s see if he’s still available for the nations league, if he is, then fair play to him.

One last pay day before he retires. For me, he’s the same as Lawrence and Roberts: not a target man, not a winger, not really a typical nine in the way that Bradshaw is, although he’s got an eye for goal on occasion. Even if it were Messi I’d prefer to see some loyalty shown to the players who turned up in Croatia and Hungary at the end of the season when it would be easier to go on holiday.

As good as he was yesterday (has been recently) we need to let go of some of the players from 2016. For me this includes HRK, Andy King, Joe Ledley and Chris Gunter. Anyone calling for the return of these players clearly has a trouble moving on as they are nowhere near good enough to be involved. We have several players who are an improvement on these so let's see the change of personnel as a positive.

All comes down to a) his reasons for retiring, b) if he has been in contact with the FAW and Giggs in the meantime and c) if the players are aware and on-board.
If he passes all three of those then I'd have him back. Even if he does though we will prtobably never know for sure on the outside. So we kind of have to trust everyone at the FAW on this.

Quality defender, average going forward, you'd be glad to have him alongside you in the trenches, solid 7/10 every game.

Would add to this that I'd hope the FAW would get as much assurance as they can that he won't retire immediately after the finals. Would look really bad if he comes out of retirement for 4 months, and then we have to call whoever missed out up to the WC qualifiers/Nations League. Still not particularly keen on it though. I don't think he's a good enough player to justify a call-up after all this tbh.
