Hear hear.
Bale was a one off. No one will ever be so dominant in our team again. He can however score and assist goals if we get him into space and is likely to be our key attacking player over the next 5 years.

do we underestimate what he is actually doing in a game?

The 2 goals is impressive, but does 23 touches seem really low to anyone else? So he's had to wait 4 minutes in between each touch, do they count a dribble as multiple touches?
Good to know he'd be lethal on the break though.

I think I read somewhere that the average is somewhere around 40 touches per game, obviously lower for attacking players

Really interesting hearing Steve Cooper's thoughts on Johnson and Neco. He clearly sees the two of them, as well as Gibbs-White, as his best prospects. Talks about how it was always going to be difficult for young players playing their first season of premier league football week in week out, and mentioned there will be a gradual progression, but there will also be some sideways steps. Also spoke about how he keeps pushing Johnson to get more out of him, that he had a go at him half time yesterday for not doing enough, and then he comes up with those 2 goals www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0dwdcm3

I sometimes feel like footballers today get judged too much from stats, it's almost like if you're not the complete player there'll be some stats somewhere that will get blown out of proportion and make people question your worth.
2 goals yesterday in a 2-0 win in a local derby. They're the stats that matter.

Now is the time for him to step up for us. With Bale retired, we should start him every game and try to shape him into our new talisman. I don't agree that it's time for anyone to 'step up'. We've spent quite a few years being over reliant on one player (maybe two if you count Ramsey), so now it the time to change our style of play and become a more efficient and cohesive unit. Johnson will undoubtedly be a part of that, but there's no need to talk about who can replace Bale. Agree with you. What I was trying to articulate (poorly) is that Johnson's never nailed down a starting spot for us and when he has had opportunities he hasn't always taken them. At the same time, Dan James had started about 35 consecutive competitive games or something. I think that was right at the time because although James could be patchy with his end product, he could always be relied upon to make a big difference with his pressing game, which was really important for us. However, in recent games, I've felt that James isn't really giving us that anymore. At the same time, Johnson is progressing nicely. So I think it's the right moment for Johnson to be given more trust and almost be our first choice forward, where we stick with him even when he's having quiet games (like he fairly often does) in the hope that he eventually pays that back. I'm definitely not expecting him to be our next Bale, but there's a good chance he will be our main goal threat for years to come. So if we make the decision to prioritise his selection now and stick with him when times are tough, I think we'll get the reward.

Johnson is without doubt our main goal scoring threat , he is still young but is progressing and showing signs of being top class hopefully, and we still have a few players in their mid twenties who can also improve with regular club football, a lot of them just need the self confidence and desire to keep improving.

They're the stats that matter. I do agree it's impressive to win a local derby for your club. But touching the ball every 5/6 minutes if dribbles are included seems extremely low. Flair players will pop up when it matters but it almost seems impossibly low to be out of the game that much.

It does seem low but think we need to consider the team's style of play, the player's role in that and what sort of season Forest are having so far. Haaland currently plays as a finisher in team which dominates the ball behind him, Johnson currently plays as a finisher in team which concedes possession to hit opposition on counter attack, both touch the ball relatively few times, but both are adapting to the league in their own different way.

It isn't extremely low, players don't touch the ball that much, especially forwards. The average is around 40 and is driven up keepers & defenders
Johnson also plays in a team that isn't based on possession and, of the 21 and unders in the PL, only Martinelli & Saka have scored more

Watched most of the game. Johnson was their main threat all game, he looked really bright, and made the difference in the end with a great assist. What impressed me most though was his attitude and workrate. He led the press and was constantly looking to get involved. Last season you would barely notice him and then he'd just come alive with a goal, but he's been far more involved and worked much harder recently. Think he's taken his game up a level.

i agree with the above but he still has to learn to defend much better as his none tracking back could have easily have cost Forest the game. Brennan has a bif 2 weeks ahead of him now to show if his development has come on. He has in recent games produced the goods but against what i consider this season to be poor sides in Bournmouth, Southampton & Leicesater he now has a 2 legged semi against Man Utd and amatch against Leeds who i rate as one of the besat pressing teams in the league.
As for people comparing him to Bale i think is unfair on the lad if a comparison is to be made imo Sako would be fair as same age, if Brennan can go on to produce similar figures to what he is producing then Wales will have a very talented player on their hands for possibly the next decade if injuries are avoided.

I don't think we should be comparing to Bale, but by the time Bale was 21 he had only just begun scoring regularly in the top flight
Bale had season of playing at left back and struggling to even win a game at Spurs before that. Whereas Brennan is coming off prolific seasons in League One and the Championship. Again, not saying they should be compared, but at the age of 21 Brennan has way more career goals and assists
The big test is can Brennan be consistent at the top level. I'd say his first season is an encouraging one. I think it will be 2 seasons until we see his best form. Even then, he's currently operating at a level where he is our biggest threat now
I really hope Brooks gets back to the same level he was before his illness. Being able to field a front 3 of; Brennan-Moore-Brooks is a certified Premier League forward line. If you add in players like Ramsey or Wilson behind that then we've got enough quality moving forwards. I'd like to see Brennan & Brooks particularly developing their on field relationship

I wonder which Manchester team he will sign for in July 🤔 Seems like a spurs sort of signing to me…but I don’t see him playing at that level for a while yet. He’s still got some gears to go up imo.

Whisper it quietly but Gareth scored 7 in 30 at that age...

One has to remember that this Forest team don't create too much and he is playing wide and not in the centre. Wish Forest played better football - they are not exactly an attractive watch are they?

Yesterday Forest did struggle but Leeds have been the most physical and aggressive side with out the ball we have played at home this season. This season is all about the results and not how they are achieved.
Do you think Page plays attractive football ?
Interesting choices of clubs being picked for where Johnson may go to , imo he is priceless to Forest , not because i think he is worth a silly price tag as i think the cost of any player is silly. He is an example to the club of what a player can achieve by coming through the academy. If he was to leave the 2 places i would not mind him going to are Newcastle under Howe or to Dortmund who just seem to know how to develop young talent

Newcastle would be an amazing move for Brennan. Aside from going there, I don't see a good move for him anywhere else in the Premier League. All the other top clubs would be too soon for him, and on any given season an over-achieving club like Fulham, Brighton or Brentford could become a relegation battler. If Forest stay up I'd be fine with him staying there, but I do think Newcastle is a perfect move for him

He should stay put at Forest, the grass won't be greener elsewhere. Has going to Man City in his mid twenties really pushed Grealish's career on? Everyone was talking about him when he was at Villa, he was a hero. Stay for the time being and create a legacy that will live longer than your career, that's what I'd do. Forest have money now, he has a manager that has helped him through and has total faith in him, the fans adore him, he's already been the main man in three local derby wins in the space of a year or so, he's got his close mate playing in the same team with him, there's no need to go anywhere yet.

I think another season at Forest will do him good, keep progressing and developing his game in which he should become a better and more mature player, certainly on the right path currently, so that's great.

He left Forest to go to our local rivals which i think might have been a record transfer fee between british clubs for the staggering amount of around 100,000. He then went on to suffer injuries and within about 3 years he had to retire. I would love Brennan to stay at Forest and play in our stadium when the new stand is developed , i think it would be a fitting legacy to him if he could have a section of the new stand named after him as he would have played a part in it being built.

Am sure the media, and some fans, will want to compare him to Bale to promote discussion but he's a very different play really. Bale's MO at Spurs was long range efforts, when he went to Real Madrid he added bullet headers but Brennan seems to be about timing his runs and cool finishes currently.
I'm reluctant to join in comparisons too much because of how unique Bale was. Brennan's a player in his own right and developing nicely.
Forest seem to be a good club to be at currently with Steve Cooper, Morgan Gibbs-White and Neco Williams. Newcastle with Eddie Howe is a club going in right direction on the pitch but part of me would want our lads to avoid the off-the-field questions if possible.
