I think Brennan should have started every game, he'd have had a moment at some point. Needs to start moving forwards. This season has been a bit of an adjustment for him, but I think he'll be even better next season

2 goals in the league cup tonight, and a Neco assist to go with it

Watched almost all the match and thought he was brilliant. Aside from the two goals, he must have been involved in 5 or 6 other chances with some great pieces of skill. Was on fire tonight. Neco was really good too

Hard to get too carried away imo, after how disappointing he was in the World Cup. Needs to start showing it a bit more in the prem so he doesn’t end up going down the path of being the flat track bully against champ level opposition.

The way I see it even a flat track bully would be enough against 80% of international opposition but I agree that we need to see more from him in the Prem, I think it will come.

Well, whether that is enough for you depends on where you stand in terms of just being happy to be at a World Cup Vs actually competing. If we want to get results at finals in future the sort of level that Johnson reaches will be key to that and we’d need more than being good enough to beat 80% of teams
I’ve just seen that Blackburn made 11 changes so Johnson was playing against a championship reserve side. You’d really be expecting him to stand out against that level of opposition.

He had plenty of quiet games last season where he wouldn't do much at all, and then just pop up with a goal or an assist. It's not been too dissimilar this season - the only difference being he's up against much higher quality opposition so isn't getting the same amount of opportunities. The impressive thing about his performance last night was his positivity and how involved he was in the game. I wouldn't dismiss it as unnoteworthy because it was against Blackburn's reserves either - a) because he was Forest's best player by far, and they almost had their strongest team out, and b) - that's no quite true about Blackburn - JDT is known for making loads of changes. Yes there were 11 for that match, but that was after six changes were made over their last two league games. Main thing to take from last night's game imo is just that he's getting some confidence back, hopefully better form will follow on from that and we'll start to see him having more of an impact in the league.

After a game has finished if Brennan has made an impact in some way that is the main thing. People were all jumping on Mbappe after 75 minutes or so of the World Cup final, saying he wasn't doing anything etc. The kind of player Brennan is means that I think throughout his career he's going to have very quiet games where he appears to be or is very ineffective but the important thing is that he finds a way to still have an impact which I think he will. Personally I'm quite pleased with his progression, it could be going a hell of a lot worse, we just need to avoid the thinking of putting all of our eggs in one basket and putting too much on Brennan.

Fair enough and I’m certainly not trying to write the guy off, I guess what I’m trying to say is that we’ve seen him take apart championship teams to the point that he is our brightest prospect going forward and I’m sure most were hoping the same as me to see him lay down a marker in the World Cup in the way he has done at times for Wales in the highest nations league tier…yet it didn’t seem to happen so it would be good to see him really kick on at prem level- that’s the next step. But as you say it’s confidence if nothing else which perhaps has been dented somewhat by being in and out of the forest team at times and as mentioned having an unmemorable World Cup. Fingers crossed he puts some form together in the league from here

I was impressed with him last season and looked forward to how he performed in the PL, so far though he has not shown much , however it's early days and the fact he's with virtually a brand new team at Forest would not have helped his form, I still think he will come good and is probably Wales best prospect to reach top level.

This kind of reporting is typical in the game nowadays, Johnson has a lot to prove at the top level including holding his place in the team at club level and for Wales, but he is the future if he stays focused, no doubt about that. As for Neco , I think he's wasted on the left even though he's versatile enough to do a job there , he has so much to offer either centrally in M/F or on the right.

Great assist for Forest, intercepted the ball on halfway, ran into the box and squared it for a tap in for the striker

Just saw highlights of his performance, looks to have improved his pressing game and is bulking up more every time I see him.

Just seen some highlights, he should have scored when he hit the bar but the assist more than made up for that, electric acceleration and the cross was absolutely perfect. He looks horrible to defend against and exactly the kind of player that our first eleven needs right now, I wonder how him and Kieffer would link up?

Agree with that, the pressing and defensive side of his game seems to have really progressed. With that in mind, and DJ's continued poor form (even DJ's pressing game seems to have deteriorated), I would be minded to start Johnson out in Zagreb

For me, Brennan is now our most likely player to deliver a moment of quality that results in a goal

Brenan could have had another two in the first half, if the service was a tad better!
Is it too early ta speak about shirt number 11 ?

Watched the Forest game. It was like watching them last season, with Johnson struggling to gt involved, but then gets on the end of two chances and took them extremely well. Great form from him now since the world cup. 2 goals in the league cup in a motm performance, that brilliant run to set up the winner against Southampton a couple of weeks ago, and scoring another brace today.
Side note, I wouldn't imagine Neco will get a look-in for a while. Their two full backs, Lodi and Aurier, have been brilliant in recent games.

I like him wearing 9 for us, as long as Kieffer is wearing 13 Brennan is our best shout for 9. He's definitely growing into top flight football, he's looking like a real handful for defences.

Now is the time for him to step up for us. With Bale retired, we should start him every game and try to shape him into our new talisman.

Haven't seen the goals yet but no doubt that will do him the world of good, as he needed to get on the scoresheet in the EPL to give him the self confidence and prove he belongs at this level, hope he goes on a run now.

We've spent quite a few years being over reliant on one player (maybe two if you count Ramsey), so now it the time to change our style of play and become a more efficient and cohesive unit. Johnson will undoubtedly be a part of that, but there's no need to talk about who can replace Bale.
