He was playing in an advanced midfield position so I saw him chasing back late when a guy got down the side 1. Was it his man to pick up or was his run just not marked and Jordan tried to catch him and so it looked like his error? 2. Maybe the issue with playing a new position is you get some defensive calls wrong 3. Most importantly from a selfish Welsh position - good he is making mistakes and learning at his club by playing regular games! Its like Luke Harris - he is wasting another year doing nothing at his club but would have benefited massively playing against men in the lower divisions. Difference between James and Harris is James is built like a tank and Harris looks quite slight - reminds me a bit of Woodburn - will Harris be able to stand up to the physical demands of men's football Can't blame Harris for that - he was all set to go on loan to Exeter but Fulham blocked it at the eleventh hour

Just so unfortunate. I think his small stature will be the biggest challenges in men's football, just as it seems to have been for Woodburn, albeit some have highlighted the latter's attitude in explaining his disappointing evolution as a player,

Don't think you have seen any of the game yourself. Not at fault for any of plymouths goals at all. The only one where he is involved is where he is chasing back and its not even his man that crosses it. By the way what a volley for his goal and a great piece of skill in the middle of the park that starts the move for the 3rd Birmingham goal. His composure and his improvement when given a run of games is eye catching We really, really needed a genuine central midfielder and we have got one, who can play various positions. I am sure he knows but for the play offs - Jordan needs to play as a defensive midfielder but as one of the two who sometimes has license to drive forward. Ampadu for all his excellence has never even scored a goal at club level has he, which is quite amazing! He scored a great one against Belgium but it got ruled out unfortunately of course. Wish our central defenders could grab the odd goal. I think Rodon and Mepham are 6ft 4inches or something but are pretty terrible at attacking corners for us - look at McGuire for England by contrast! Another thing we lose now that Locks has had a second heart issue. He's a good 4inches or so smaller than those two but his movement is sublime at corners, gets so many goals (by CB terms)

He looks so dominant and certain when he heads the ball away from goal but when attacking its almost like he closes his eyes and is panicked. How on earth can he not be coached to improve that part of his game and why does he not seem to improve it? Really bizarre. Ironically I thought he scored that goal against Armenia and was shocked but then it turned out to be an own goal!

When you've not scored at all then it's going to prey on your mind. If he gets one he may well go on to score a few.

There's a big difference between attacking a defensive header and an attacking header. The latter requires precision and you need to keep it low enough to hit the target. The former you just have to get it away, a massive, massive area to put it where it will be alright.

I could be right about this kid In what sense? I know you claimed he was ‘average’, but you didn’t give any further criteria so it was a meaningless claim. An average of what? Championship players? Professional players? All of mankind?

He's on the verge of signing for Atalanta if Fabrizio Romano is to be believed. Great move if true!

Vaguely remember there being Italian interest previously. Great move if it's true.
Aren't Italian teams restricted in terms of non-EU players? Can't see them wasting £4m and one of those spots on a backup

I doubt he'll be a guaranteed starter on day 1, but Atalanta are a club that improve players, and from what I remember they're not afraid of giving younger players a chance. I can see him doing well there but might take a few seasons of cameos before he establishes himself - exciting move all in all!

Scrolling through comments from Birmingham City fans elsewhere, most of them seem unhappy at the reported fee of €4m forJJ. Cheap or not, providing he plays regularly, I'd be more than happy for him to move to Atalanta. I think Ampadu benefitted from spending a couple of seasons in Serie A even though he was playing for clubs that were inevitably involved in a struggle against relegation. Atalanta seem like a club that are looking up rather than down and that can only be a good thing in terms of JJ's development.

Our JJ is worth more than £4m surely! #Bargain There will probably be a sell on clause that envisages him developing into a much better player, and Italy is a great place to learn the tactical side of the game.

This is great for Jordan James and Wales. I think he'll surprise a few and take his chance there and establish himself sooner than many would expect.

The amount Atalanta are reportedly offering is tiny, so I'm not surprised the bid has been rejected, I'd have thought Birmingham would be keen to get something around the region of £8-10m for him, not sure if Atalanta want to pay that though?

We saw it for Wales first - Latvia away and especially Croatia at home. His many talents on display despite being built like a tank!
He is 19 and he is now scoring goals for fun in the Championship in a team that is struggling. He has the technique and composure and looks like he can be a top 6 player in the future, especially in a central midfield role. Would love to see him as a defensive midfielder with license to get forward at times
So, so glad England messed him about when they had his chance. 19!

I get the impression that lads are treated far more warmly with the Welsh set up than England, I could be completely wrong but it didn't take him long to decide who to play for once he'd had a taste of both.

Well he had 2 sub stints and spent a collective 5-10mins on the field for England Its our advantage right? They have so many talented youngsters that guys who stand out for us are probably barely visible. He played for England U20 when 17 or something? He has developed so much since to be fair
