If you compare James' and Wharton's headline stats on fbref they are very similar, with James ahead on goals (scoring at twice his expected goals rate), Wharton ahead on assists and pass completion (Birmingham are a lot more direct than Blackburn). fbref.com/en/players/f719ad7f/Jordan-Jamesfbref.com/en/players/4b542852/Adam-WhartonI would find it very odd if no club were willing to meet Birmingham's £10 million asking price in this window. He could easily be worth twice that in the summer.

I reckon there are a few teams who look at young English players and see potential sponsorship/shirt sale benefits if they help England win a trophy.
Jordon James went from someone basically out the door with a deal good for both parties to being kept by his Championship team and a side unlikely to being promoted.
All he can do is keep improving and become impossible to ignore - the journey he is on is a much more exciting, broader in experience and can be just as financially rewarding.

I hear he got a tap-in today. They all count the same ;-)

8th of season. Well taken shot from 12 yards out. Low and hard across goal. Not bad for a midfielder ;-)
Broady and Moore working well together. Although Moore really has lost his killer edge.

On his 100th professional appearance for club and country he scores his 10th goal

He is quality. Pushed into a problem position for us and made it his own. Exactly what we need.

James - best compliment is you hardly noticed him besides breaking up play as he was so neat and decisive in everything he did

9th cap and he's playing like that! Need him and Ampadu to play together all the time. An injury to either and it would be a big drop off imo
Pretty confident JJ could hit 50 caps at a similar age to Ampadu as well

It's crazy to think he is playing so much deeper than he does for his club and finding it so natural.

I know this won't be a popular post on here but in the last two games come the second half JJ was running pretty near "empty" and was not as proactive as in previous games.
I sincerely hope that between us and a relegation battle for Birmingham he doesn't get "burnt out"
Obviously I am not aware of how fit or not Ramsey is but I felt last night (if fit enough) he should have been introduced in the second half, I think Aaron offers more in an attacking role and this was a time our forwards had pretty much run out of ideas / steam.

We've asked a lot of him considering his age. Summer off might be a great thing, and he may even get a move to a better team

This was inevitable - he was never going to sustain the Croatia-type performances, which were just ridiculously good. He's had a brilliant start for Wales, but he's been in and out of the Birmingham team and Atlanta deemed him to be worth <£10m while other young Championship midfielders have been sold for much higher fees. Point is, maybe he's not quite at the level a lot of Welsh fans thought after 2 or 3 excellent performances - maybe he just played above himself in those games and now we're simply seeing a regression to the mean.
I still think he was more than good enough yesterday - not as good as the Croatia game, but good enough, is a nailed on starter who's likely to improve significantly and will therefore be a key player for the next 10 years. But let's not expect too much from him.

I understand your point of view and it's unrealistic to expect stellar performances from him consistently. But his performances against Croatia and Turkiye show he has a very high ceiling indeed, and at 19 years old. I would be surprised if he doesn't have an impressive career at Premier League level, with a mid table side at least.

He did.
He is 19 for goodness sake but has technical quality, physicality, an all round game and is so smart with the yellow cards he chooses to take for the team. He just seems so in control of things. Brilliant for him to be learning off Ampadu too!

He's the most cynical player we've had for years, maybe in my lifetime.
That is meant as a compliment.

Absolutely! I have commented on this several times before.
I remember just one tired foul that got him booked and a couple just competing for the ball. The rest I have seen (and there have been quite a few) have been cynical - there has been danger and he has taken action - many he disguises as mild, mistimed challenges but best of all there have been a few that are blatant - no chance of getting the ball - his only intension being to kill a team's momentum on the break. Best of all he has only got cautioned a couple of times for those which shows you how valuable such a mindset is.
No one else is as cynical, not even Ampadu,, and he is in a different orbit to someone like Morrell. Incredible game intelligence for a 19 year old and as you infer so valuable for us. A lot of our players have been far too nice - witness the Netherlands winners against us.

really hope he can get a good move to championship club (i'm sure there will be a few in for him) and get regular game time. i know he is still very young, but i dont think going down a league is the best option.
