That would be great! I much prefer our players be adventurous and move over to Europe rather than join/stay at bog standard EFL teams. Got a lot of time for Rennes as a club too. They really embrace their Breton identity and sing the anthem before games (which is the same tune as the Welsh anthem, but with Breton words). x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1821586419929985193

Decent move, although might not be a first team player (not immediately anyway). Rodon was in and out, they're a very good side. I still think he has a lot to prove

Ligue 1 is currently the weakest of the top 5 European leagues. Not quite as exciting as move to Atalanta, but these things are rarely about where you arrive rather what you do when you get there.

Potentially a really good move in my opinion, think he'd get enough minutes immediately and would develop well there

Transfer for £8 million allegedly. Good move, albeit that game time not guaranteed. If he shows the firm he showed against Croatia and Turkey he'll get plenty of minutes.

Supposedly only £4 million. What a bargain. If he shows the form he showed against Croatia and Turkey he will be a tremendous asset to Stade Rennes.

Surprisingly cheap. Was he in the last year of his contract?
Bit of a gamble for Jordan, I respect him for having a go in a foreign country at such a young age.

Unused sub in the 3-0 victory against Lyon yesterday. Slightly disappointing that he didn't get some minutes given they were 2-0 up fairly early on. Had escaped my notice that Rennes had also signed Glen Kamara from Leeds who got the full 90.

mmmm - moves to that pretty average league have not really benefited our players too much in the past
Jordan needs to keep playing games so it will be a slap in the face if he is brave enough to go to that league and ends up warming the bench. Early days but really hope this does not happen given he has been playing regularly as a teen for 2 years at a decent level!

Maybe just a touch too early. I can't imagine him moving there unless he was going to be involved in the first team

Assess the situation after 10-15 games, if and when he gets his chance he just has to take it.

Came off the bench and played 18 minutes of a 3-1 defeat. Had a shot and got booked.

Not even in the squad tonight, so I assume this is due to injury.

Its been a dreadful move thus fa
He was progressing strongly and was a Championship regular and now he is not even getting a kick
It seemed like a strange move at the time. So many obsessing about young Welsh players playing on the Continent. Why? It can be unsettling for a young guy and the French League is not exactly a bog step up from the Championship

After his magnificent showings against Croatia and Turkiye his performances for us have been indifferent if we're honest. Still think he's too good not to return to the form he's shown he's capable of, but we need to be patient. For me it's a matter of when not if he regains his form.

Yeah I don't think you can read too much into two performances, his other 10 caps are probably more representative of his current level (which have been solid enough imo, if not spectacular). He was in and out of a relegated Championship side last year, never truly nailing down a place, although did show plenty of promise with some of his performances. So he's not quite as good as I think a lot of Welsh fans thought after those couple of performances, but still has the potential to be a decent prem-level player imo.

I don't agree. Those two performances shows what he's capable of at 19 years old. It would be really odd if he were to have an entire career where he's unable to attain the same heights, especially as his physicality is a major part of what he brings to the table. Anything is possible of course. You only have to think of Dele Alli to see how a career can nose dive inexplicably. But I'd be surprised if James doesn't recover his form and becomes a massive player for us.

He was very good when he came on against Montenegro. Played well against Turkey too.

Fotmob gave him a 6.4 rating for the Montenegro game and 6.6 for the Turkiye one. Unremarkable.

Ah so you think that performance against Croatia is more representative of his current level, where he bossed things against Modric, Kovacic and Brozovic and that he’s now going through poor form? I think you’ve got it the wrong way around. Don’t you think it’s more likely that he just played an absolute blinder in those games, where he maximised what he was capable of, putting in a 10/10 (relative to his own ability), and since then we’ve just seen a more accurate reflection of where he’s currently at? Form will fluctuate, so you need a decent sample of games to have a more accurate understanding of players’ ability. I feel that his sporadic appearances with Birmingham, the start he’s made at Rennes, and his performances for us over the course of the 13 games gives a pretty clear indication that he’s not at the level those two games suggested.

Those performances against Croatia and Turkiye shows he has a very high ceiling. It wasn't even a case of gushing over the performances of the bright new thing. Had Ampadu or Allen produced performances of that standard we would have been equally impressed. I have every confidence we will see a return to that level in time, we just need to be patient.
Reading your post again I don't actually disagree about his current level, which has undoubtedly dropped off significantly from the level he showed in the Croatia and Turkiye games. If there is a difference in how we see things it's over the question of how we see things panning out in future. I have a lot of confidence of him getting back on song. But perhaps we agree on that too.

Definition of indifferent "neither good nor bad; mediocre."
"If something is unremarkable, that means that there's nothing special about it and no reason to call any attention to it."
If you can see a difference then a career in hair splitting awaits.
