Everton, West Ham, palace, wolves, Brighton and Southampton all interested in signing him in the summer. Only 17 years old by the way, could have a real gem on our hands here. Having a good season for Birmingham, apparently they’re braced to lose him to a premier league club.

Yes needs at least a full season at Championship level before a move upwards. He'll just be put into the U23s for those teams

Seriously Bodin wake up or leave!
Lets fast track the promising players you muppet!
It will give them a sense of progress.
He has been starting quite a few games for Birmingham. Why on earth would you pick him for the U18s?

Hahaha no way he’s just been called up to England u20s. Potentially an incredible fumble by Bodin. Unforgivable really. Needs to go. Why on earth did we call him up to our u18s when England offer u20s.
Clear as day merited at least an u21 call up. Wow. All due respect to the u21s squad, we’ve got a few included that realistically won’t push on to be senior squad players, whereas JJ would have been nailed on given his trajectory.
Saving grace is that he can switch back to us, should he wish. But doesn’t look good.

Don't worry too much!
As crazy as it sounds, but the FAW have been encouraging young players to join the England youth set up. They can then get a feel for which country is right for them.
Most times players have been choosing Wales. Case example: David Brooks.

I would have personally called him up to our senior squad, we don't have many players playing midfield in the championship.

It's also something lots within the FAW have said they actively encourage - Mooney said it on the podcast last week. Although I have to say I'm slightly skeptical. It's something that obviously sounds good and portrays confidence, which might be why they say it, whereas deep down they're probably thinking 'oh shit' like the rest of us - I hope not! James has also been posting about it on Twitter, so he seems to be pleased by it anyway! Time will tell.

Most times players have been choosing Wales. Case example: David Brooks. Brooks, Ampadu, Woodburn and I'm sure many others have done this, it's a policy that's worked well for us This may be slightly different because in all of those cases we showed interest at the same time as England so it made sense for those players to experience both camps and see which suited better This time around James has been with us since U14s, and we named him in one of our youth camps. If it was planned for James to go and experience the England youth set up we would not have named him ourselves. This seems to me as though we've misjudged his ability a bit, called him up to the U18s and the player considers themselves to be warranting a higher level (fair enough when you think about it). England come in and offer him a higher level and he's snapped at the opportunity (a bad move on his part in my opinion) Maybe he just feels more English anyway and wasn't that into playing for us - in which case this is would be good news for us. We don't need players in our setup who aren't committed. It's a shame given his ability and positioning, but ultimately it's his choice based on how he feels I may be wrong but I think this wasn't a planned move, and that the player wants to switch permanently - my gut feeling. Very unlikely he gets near the England senior squad though so terrible decision by him if it's just for footballing reasons

Calling him to the u18 squad was a baffling decision in my view especially when you look at the midfielders called up the u21 squad where none of the players called up have made as many appearances as he has at championship level.
There does seem to be change in the youth squads over the past few years which is based on age rather than ability. Where as under Flynn the youth teams were considered as one. After Flynn let we did see a trend to pick players who were playing first team football at lower league level rather than from category 1 academies

It is odd, and to be honest a mistake to have only called him up to the U18's squad as it doesn't show that we value him in the way that he should.
He definitely merits a place in the U21 squad, and to be honest looking through the side there isn't anyone in that team that's playing as regularly at as high of a level as he is. He should be the first name in that squad.
There's a very good argument that he should even be in the seniors, given that Morrell's banned for our only competitive game, and again he's playing more regularly in the Championship than Morrell ever has done despite being seven years his junior.
Instead we've offered him a step backwards really from what he's playing at, and a step backwards from what England were offering and have perhaps blown it really. Yes, I know we're more than happy for players to go and experience other camps with confidence in our own but part of our selling point was that we really valued players like Brooks, Ampadu and Woodburn. In this case it doesn't seem like we've given a particularly strong impression that we value Jordan.

All really good points and I completely agree I'm all for allowing people to experience other camps, but this one strikes me differently and I think you're spot on when you say we haven't shown him that we value him. He probably thought "I'm definitely pushing for the seniors, minimum U21 level" and then we tell him he's with the U18s, which is a bit of a knock This could also be a bit of a power play. *Pick me for your seniors or I'll go and play for England* which is an argument strengthened by the fact that as you say, he's playing more regularly in the Championship than either Morrell, Smith or Jonny have managed in recent times

Very unlikely he gets near the England senior squad though so terrible decision by him if it's just for footballing reasons Encapsulates my feelings with regards to this probably being a permanent switch. If he feels far more English than Welsh then fair enough. I don’t have confidence in Bodin at all in relation to retaining the cream of our talent pool. He seems to have too much loyalty to players who unfortunately will unlikely make the grade. The encouraging of playing for other countries seems to be u16s downwards I think, although hoping it’s the case in this instance too. I think Brooksy was an anomaly in how that came about, believe the story was the he was unaware of his Cymru call-up and he wanted to keep his word to the English set-up. If this doesn’t prompt a senior call up come the NL games nothing will. As much as I love Joniesta and value what he brings, JJ should have got the nod ahead of him.

i think some times we need to play the game... we're still a really small country with a small playing pool. i think he should have been called up to seniors for this window with the possibility of minutes in the friendly. and its not just about getting them capped (i know he still wouldnt be fully captured) like we did with Wilson, but more of the fact that there is a welsh qualified central midfielder getting loads of gametime in the championship. to me its seems crazy we are not fasttracking him to the seniors like we did with Neco. i really hope this doesnt bite us on the ass! but it certainly isnt promising. Caveat being if he would rather play for england and considers himself english and he thinks he can make... good luck to the lad.

This feels different to Ampadu, Woodburn etc, who actually came through the junior squads. James has only one u18 cap for Wales. Think we've lost this one.

As I stated before James got called up by England = Bodin can do one
He has achieved nothing with the U21s and is not moving players up from the younger age groups. We are Wales not Brazil. This is beyond embarrassing and shows him up - its back to the amateur days of old - good enough for England U20s but only good enough for our U18s! ffs!
Get real and get lost Bodin. You are having a negative influence. Chem Campbell still not good enough for a chance. Remind me how well our U21 are doing. If James is talented - then we have lost him - so, so stupid
We can't afford someone to be undermining our system like this. Lets make sure he's gone before he stops Luke Harris progressing!

As disappointing as this is, does anyone genuinely believe that if he was selected for the under 21s instead of the under 18s he’d have snapped up the opportunity and turned England down?

As disappointing as this is, does anyone genuinely believe that if he was selected for the under 21s instead of the under 18s he’d have snapped up the opportunity and turned England down? Who knows? What I do know is that fans on this message board are pretty well informed, passionate about Welsh football and many have been surprised and critical of the lack of players being moved through the age grade levels under Bodin's watch. Every talented young player gets fast tracked in every club unless the established players are top class! James could arguably have been knocking on the door of the senior Wales team in a year. He plays Championship level already and plays a fair number of games. Joe Morrell is 25, 5ft 6in and plays for Portsmouth - he is not very good and lacks physical presence! Joniesta is getting on and can't even get into a second division side's team! Jordan James is 17 and apparently talented enough for England U20s!!!! Seriously, such negligence deserves the sack. We have limited resources - we can't make such stupid mistakes. The Anglos come to Wales because they hardly get a look in at England. That is our point of difference! There is no way - not progressing someone up the age groups who has talent is a good, new revolutionary way to do things. Its bloody lazy or stubborn. Really don't have time for this amateurism. Us Welsh can be our own worst enemies at times!

Tbf England U20s isn't massively different to U18s in terms of how their structure compares
We have 18s, 19s, 21s & our 19s aren't playing this month, so it was only ever a choice between the 18s & 21s. England are benefiting here from having that extra age group which if we had it we may well have put him into. If England had gone and put him into their 21s then it would have been criminal on our part, but they obviously don't consider him an U21 level player yet, and whilst their U21s are better than ours does show they don't rate him that differently to us
Either way it's disappointing but not a good move on his part IMO, feels like everyone loses in this scenario

Honestly, if he's not committed we shouldn't want him. Better we find out now when he's 17 than in 4 years time and he pulls a Declan Rice on us.
But this could just be him having a look at the England set up and he could be back with us in the next international window. Who knows. If his heart was set on switching to England permanently or even just getting a little look at their set up, surely he would have accepted their call up whether we called him up to the U21s or not?
I doubt this is him throwing his toys out the pram because he feels insulted that we only gave him an U18 call up. If it is, it's incredibly short sighted and stupid of him and/or he's getting terrible advice from somewhere, because his chance of ever becoming a full England international are very slim. On the other hand if he keeps playing regularly for the rest of the season and the start of next season (and he actually wants to play for us) then he could be playing in the World Cup in 9 months time. I can't imagine he'd throw that chance away because one U21 manager snubbed him.

The point here is what is Bodin doing that is positive for Welsh football?
Our U21s are poor. We don't have the likes of Bale, Ramsey, Hennesey and Allen coming through so there is no excuse for looking at a broad range of players!
Really no excuse for not having a look at the likes of players like James and Campbell (who is 20 this year btw!). If they are not good enough then they can step back down. This is not club football and we are not competitive in our qualifying groups so this should all be about development. Again there is no excuse for not fast tracking or having a look at talent with potential.
Are we 100% sure that if say Ampadu were picked for England U20 when we were offering him U18 that he would not go with England? We had a great culture under Osian but let us not fool ourselves, these players throw their lot in with us as they see a better development pathway for them and feel more valued. That should be a simple task for a nation like ours

One could also say the same thing about Brennan Johnson.
James may come back if he is clearly not good enough for England. However, if he turned out to be as good as Brennan (albeit in a different position) then why would he be coming back?
This not committed stuff is nonsense. I love Wales but we are not exceptionally special to someone not from here! Young players don't know what they want, are looking for opportunities and its always nice to feel wanted. Its very strange if a person born and bred in England only ever wants to play for us - if they feel they are good enough for England and England want them then surely 99% of the time they'll prioritise England. Its those players that are talented but not exceptional that Wales have an opportunity to nurture and form a bond with at a young age. Ireland somehow have messed up in nurturing links with English talent over recent years - don't let muppets like Bodin do the same. I guess he is on such a low salary that there are not exactly a lot of alternatives targeting his job. Oh for another Bryan Flynn!
