The irony of all of that though is that we looked a bit worse after Broadhead came on. Jury is still out on Broadhead for me. Don't get me wrong, he could become a decent player for us, but I get the feeling that because of that goal, he's instantly become a Page fave, whereas other players could do a better job in a situation. But anyway, back to the subs. Historically, Page seems very uneasy about the idea of making any changes in any game. im hoping that the fact we have a much deeper squad this time round we'll see a bit more rotation when its needed. And the fact there’s a game on Monday should help too, along with the hot weather. I’m expecting Page to utilise all 5 subs tonight.

Goodness - we could do with him coming good quickly! James has been the star of Blues’ pre-season campaign to date. He has started all three matches and scored twice, including the only goal in Blues’ win at Northampton Town on Wednesday night. He has been fielded on the right of Blues’ midfield in pre-season and seems to be enjoying life in an unfamiliar position. “I’m feeling really comfortable in it,” James adds. “It’s something I haven’t really done before, but I feel really good. In the past few games I’ve scored two goals, that’s something I want to add in to my game. I feel the team is in a good place, and I’m in a good place.” www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-jordan-james-eustace-27361827

Hopefully he has a breakout year Here's his goal against Northampton, good finish: Off topic, this is quite the dig from the Birmingham Mail.. "and Jobe Bellingham grabbed headlines because of his surname alone."

Not good that he's being used in a different position tho - we desperately need him to be able to play that deep midfield role

Impressed on his first start. We have an option…

Impressed on his first start. We have an option… Neat, tidy. Good positioning and not bad on the ball. Maybe didn't impose himself on the game for the first 20 but grew into it.

Watched the 2nd half back and thought JJ did very well. No issues starting him instead of Morrell moving forwards. I think JJ is a player who is clearly at least Championship standard for the foreseeable, and for that reason I think he should move ahead of Morrell in the pecking order

A good night for him. He'll start on Monday surely (unless Page goes for 'attacking Wales' with Ramsey and Wilson instead).
Thought he spoke well on S4C afterwards also (in English). Seems like a bright, composed kid who's delighted to be in the squad and determined to become a fixture.

Interesting comparison with someone like Charlie Savage. A year younger but with 58 championship appearances and 3 senior caps.
Difficult for any kid to turn down a premier League club and I guess they benefit from the coaching and facilities from a young age but very very few get a route into the first team and many seem to end up with under-whelming moves. (Must also be a blow to your footballing self-esteem).

I was pleasantly surprised by his performance. I've watched him a couple of times for Birmingham where it was barely noticeable that he was on the pitch. He was perhaps a little quiet yesterday too, but did a lot of good unseen work, broke up play several times, and showed a decent passing range. I expected him to be more attacking / bob to box, but I was impressed by how positionally disciplined he was. A very encouraging performance - something to build on.

I wouldn't go overboard on the Morrell criticism. He was effective in the first two games, had a bit of a shocker when he came on against Armenia, was decent against Turkey until that moment of madness, and wasn't brilliant in his cameo yesterday. People are making broad judgements on his career trajectory based on seeing glimpses of him in a Welsh shirt. My understanding is that he's playing very well in a very strong Portsmouth side, and there's a good chance he'll be a decent Championship regular this time next year.

I'm fine with Morrell being in the squad and will be a useful player to have on the bench to come on, or in the case of injuries or suspensions. But I don't think he should be in the starting XI when everyone's fit now. If I had to make a pecking order I'd go for;
1. Ampadu 2. JJ 3. Morrell 4. Sheehan 5. Levitt
I know Page puts Levitt ahead of Sheehan, but I really liked the look of Sheehan yesterday and value his experience ahead of Levitt who doesn't really look like kicking on imo
I'm not sure whether last night will have convinced Page to move JJ ahead of Morrell, but I think you've got to take positive risks sometimes even if it doesn't work out

How tall is he? I'm seeing 190cm (6'2")? He's not that tall is he? If that's the case, would be another nice to have in a Welsh midfield.

Can't go back to Morrell, the warning signs were there against Latvia, came on and nearly threw away two points with careless play on the edge of the box. Came on against Armenia and looked pretty crap, got sent off against Turkey. Even Charlie Savage should be ahead of him now, he's had a number of chances recently that he hasn't taken. All he has to do is keep it as simple as possible, track average opposition and don't do anything stupid, he's failed. Harsh but true.

Our side desperately need physicality / central midfieldsrs and Jordan James seems to offer that. Him and Ampadu in the middle of the park will certainly do, so long as James' technique can hold up against decent quality opposition.
If we get another Allen appear on the scene, then we have the option of Amapdu playing centre back. Looks like we will have another candidate for central midfield in the next couple of years as Crew looks promising for our U21s

Played well, great to see. Morrell isn’t a bad player but I agree his form has dipped recently. Page needs to look more at Sheehan, Lowery and others now to build some strength in depth in midfield.
