The reality is that we either never host a tournament game, or we host it as part of a bid with England. I support independence but also support us being part of this bid, there are benefits and we have an opportunity to assert ourselves and showcase ourselves to the world. The bid being available in English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish was a good start
Yes England will try and make it all about them, but we can be good hosts and showcase to everyone what we are about and make everyone feel welcome. The fans out in Croatia offering daffodils to everyone is a great example of this and I hope we can host in a similar spirit if it's a home tournament too

Let’s say there’s a last 16 game between Austria and Poland at the millennium. How would those 2 playing each other in a UK tournament promote us to the world more than the two times they recently played us? Or More than the champions league final? This hurts Welsh football. The calls for a UK team for the Olympics will be back if this gets confirmed. Anything that could remotely threaten us as an independent football nation should always be squashed. This is not the same as a Scandinavian bid or a Nordic bid this is something that could snowball. I also think of this was a true UK and Ireland bid they’d be offering to help make the racecourse 40,000 seats and have games there. Imagine “The oldest international sports stadium in the world” on display (That would be promoting wales ) but it won’t happen because heaven forbid something slightly takes the gloss off Wembley. Wrexham might be a championship team by then with a million gogs behind them so why not help?

Wrexham might be a championship team by then with a million gogs behind them so why not help? They may also be in league one fighting relegation. The future is unknown. Other than Belfast, all the other stadiums don’t require funding. Manchester City and Villa plan on making their stadium bigger anyway. Team UK / GB is less likely to happen now as Wales have been successful since 2012. The two Irelands and Scotland have each qualified for a Euro.

I would love to agree with you but to most people yma o Hyd is a fun karaoke song and the lyrics mean nothing. As things stand there’s plenty In Wales that will want team gb. I mean most in Wales for whatever reason like complete hypocrites support English teams. How against it would they be? I know this forum is the wrong place to gauge that question for an answer as many on here passionately support Wales. People watch Wales in rugby then cheer on the lions every 4 years a bunch of them would happily welcome a team gb side every 4 years 🤢

I can’t get excited about this really & besides England has had its fair share from UEFA in recent times, so I would not think it would be the favourite bid.
I can’t see how it aids calls for a Team GB, after all one of the host cities isn’t even in the UK & by the time the tournament comes around, another one could well be on the way to leaving it too.

Semis and final at Wembley apparently Surely Cardiff & London made the most sense so the pitch isn't wrecked? Wembley holds three games back to back every May! Plus FA Cup, the Vase & Trophy finals on the same day, National League play-off. Think it’ll survive! It'll be doing this in the hot summer having held games all month off the back of what you mentioned Having all 3 there is a joke.

That being said, I think England can do it alone and I don't know why they have roped the other nations in? I think a seperated England bid and "Celtic bid" has more merit. I am also dissappointed that Wembley is getting two semis and a final. By all means give Wembley the final but the semis should be in Cardiff and Dublin.

Who do you think would pay the 200 million it would cost to build a 40k seater stadium for a club with all due respect who've spent the last 15 + years in non league football. I doubt there's enough room on the current footprint anyway short of demolishing the university buildings to the rear. That probably adds another 30 - 40 million to the bill, by the time they're rebuilt elsewhere. you cant extend what you've got to 40k, its a start again project.

I think a lot of people can't get past their dislike of England- fact is the celtic nations wouldn't even be able to meet the stadium criteria so talk of not inviting england is a complete non-starter. Countries must submit a bid with 10 stadiums, one of which must have 60,000 seats, one of which (preferably two) must have 50,000 seats, four of which must have 40,000 seats and three of which must have 30,000 seats. Yes they would be able to get past it. Including Casement Cardiff 74000 Murrayfield 69000 (?) Celtic Park 62000 Hampden 51000 Aviva 51000 Croke Park 70000 (all seater) Semple Stadium 40000 (all seater) Ibrox 50000 CCS 33000 Casement 34000 One unbuilt (Casement), and two needing conversion to all seater (permission already gained for RWC 2023 bid) I think logistics (hotels) might be the issue. I generally agree with you, but the stadia are there.

Hotels would be a nightmare, they’ve already said that’s why Croke Park was dropped.

I am also dissappointed that Wembley is getting two semis and a final. By all means give Wembley the final but the semis should be in Cardiff and Dublin. Why did the English FA include the rest of us in their bid? To make sure that their bid is successful. There are two things that UEFA and FIFA love; taking football to traditionally non-footballing areas (Wales is a rugby country isn't it?) and spreading it around, trying to create a festival of football (ala Euro 2020). There isn't any top notch stadia in the West of England and their bid would have looked a little lob-sided without any games in the West of England. Using a rugby stadium and games in place on the map where otherwise would have struggled to host matches. That's double brownie points for their bid. There is one thing that you can be sure of and that is BritNat's never miss an opportunity to push their agenda. They might be the British AND IRISH Lions, including players from a fully independent country, but that doesn't stop BritNat's using the Lions as an argument for a TeamGB. If the bid is successful, I'll bet you a Butchers Apron that the BritNat's will be all over this. Colonism runs long and deep in the English. As for economic benefits to the country, I can't see any economic benefits to those that live North of Taffs Well. Harry Styles will probably bring more economic benefits than this lot. I'm struggling to see how it benefits the FAW as well. The tournament will be hiring a stadium from the WRU. It looks like the main benefit will be to a couple of individuals that want to climb the greasy UEFA pole. As for those that think it will showcase Wales, go on lets hear yer sales pitch?

Talk about narrow mindedness ffs. The only other bid is from Turkey ( who also want the World cup in 2034). So your prepared for us never to be seen on a world stage so that 21% (tops) of the population can claim they want independence. ( then you wonder why support for independence is dropping like a stone ). #narrowmindednessatbest Oh it’s you again. the guy who literally doesn’t understand any point and everything goes over his head. How are you ? What is this the Cymru premier thread? Thanks for the sarcastic and obvious views you could type out about being on the world stage Zzzzzzz. Not going to get into it with you but I’m not narrow minded #stockholmsyndromesufferer #thinksifWalesdoesanythingtheyneedEngland Thanks for your typical reply.

Well I’m sure every hospitality place in South Wales will be more than happy. Cardiff as a City has no where near enough hotels so normally demands spills out right across South/West Wales. Bars and restaurants would have bumper days.

In general I don't hate the idea. Agree that it is probably our only realistic chance of hosting but it would be unfair if all semis and final are at Wembley. Give us 1 of the semi finals and I'm happy.
Automatic qualification also a tough one, presumably we'd get 2 spots between us so the idea would be all 5 go through normal qualifying and hope at least 3 make it? What happens if more than 2 fail? Could we see teams purposely losing games in order to take advantage of these auto spots in some way?

The stadium split is wrong should be 4 England 2 Wales 2 Scotland 1 each to both the Irelands. My choice would be St James Park , Anfield, Villa Park, Wembley, Murrayfield and Hampden Park, Cardiff City Stadium & not sure what its called these days is the Principality Stadium or National Stadium 7 the Irish Stadiums kept the same. i agree with posters on here that Wembley does not deserve to cover any of the real major matches. i would have liked to have seen Murrayfield , Dublin Arena and the Principality Stadium given the semi finals and final between them . All 3 have the capacity to hold it. Also all 3 cities have coped with regular big events such as large visiting number of supporters during six nations events. The reason for inclusion of the CCS is because that now appears to be your supporters choice of venue to play matches at and when you qualify as i expect you to do should you be at a disadvantage to other possible host nations.

This is just England securing the final at Wembley again just like 2020 and 22 for the women. This offers Wales nothing. Literally nothing in the long term. 1) Economy. There will be an economic benefit, projections estimate £200 million+ to the Welsh economy. Will that be focused on south Wales? Yes. Am I happy about that? No. Is there a solution to it at present? No. But it's still £200 million to our country and that will impact some parts of Wales that do struggle economically 2) Visibility. Qualifying for major tournaments has put more and more eyes on us, and being a host nation increases the focus on us again. Casual watchers may not have known that we qualified for the last Euros. However people talk about "Where is the next Euros being played?". Whenever the tournament is hosted in Qatar/South Africa/Poland/Ukraine I'm always keen to watch the hosts play, especially if they have a big game 3) National confidence. Now I'm not supportive of us using the Millennium Stadium generally speaking. However, imagine we get a big victory against a top tier nation in front of a 75k crowd with the eyes of the world on us. You cannot doubt that would be a special occasion and a unique experience. Sometimes these things end up having a big impact on the national confidence (see Euro 2016) 4) Project a positive view of Wales onto visitors. A lot of foreigners will have a perception of "British people" and if they come and visit it's a great chance to show them how Wales is different, what we are all about, and how we differ from the rest of the UK

Yes exactly, I don’t think they’d spend it for those exact reasons. I agree with everything. However. If that stadium was in England they’d pay it. Who do you think would pay for it ? The UK bid team! We are one big happy family and having the worlds oldest international stadium on display is a must THE WORLDS OLDEST:O not Wembley or maracana but the racecourse. We have to show that. Surely it’s a chance to showcase Wales and put us on the map! and what with being one big equal family surely spending money on unique cultural history like that is a no brainer. Yaaaayyyyy for being part of the UK and equals yayyyyy.

The idea that we'd turn the Racecourse into a 40k stadium for this is farcical imo, completely unrealistic

No motorway connecting north and south, thanks Westminster 2. No train line connecting north and South Wales , thanks Westminster 3. Back in the day when it become mandatory for stadiums to have seating and the potential of a big crowd in Wrexham went away did Westminster come crawling out of the woodwork to fund the oldest international sports stadium in the world with an arts Or social grant ? No. Would they if it was an English stadium that held that title? Undoubtedly. 4. Now we are about to “Host” the Euros as one big happy family. What an opportunity to make something beautiful happen as are all really mates. Let’s “put Wales on the map” with this incredible history ! Oh wait!? Let’s only use a rugby stadium instead then. 5. You talk about legacy of Euro 2016 but imagine the true legacy that could be left in the North of the country if they actually gave a fuck. This whole bid is just about ensuring Wembley gets yet another final. That’ll be 3 Euro finals in 8 years. Fuck me

To my understanding the CCS is too close to the MS to meet the requirements, I think they have to be a certain number of miles apart and the MS and CCS are within that range There's literally no way we could have offered more than 1 stadium for this bid unfortunately, as all other stadiums are too small. The idea that we'd turn the Racecourse into a 40k stadium for this is farcical imo, completely unrealistic Thanks for the info despite being english im very anti Wembley its not got the appeal it once had they started to sell its soul when they started playing cup semi finals at the stadium and now you get vast parts of the stadium empty because seats owned by corporate who only take tickets when want to be seen and stop real supporters attending. Its now used for everything under the sun from the pizza cup to playoffs. So i stick with my view that i would like the semis and the final to be played in the other host nations

The idea that we'd turn the Racecourse into a 40k stadium for this is farcical imo, completely unrealistic It is unrealistic and farcical but as yourself why. 1. Fuck me I agree, and that's why I want independence. In an ideal world I want Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport and Merthyr Tudful competing in the Premier League fighting for titles, playing in Europe and attracted 50k crowds every week. If we weren't shafted by Westminster then maybe we'd be closer to achieving my dream However, that won't stop me from looking forward to something that will be a net positive for Wales. Don't let your resentments towards England, however justified, cause you to cut your nose off to spite your face

I had hoped that after Cardiff took the FA Cup finals for a few years people would see the merit in sharing things around more - to my understanding a lot of people loved all those finals played at Cardiff , and having some semis in Villa Park/Old Trafford I thought they might have made it that the Millennium Stadium & another rotating stadium host the semis, and then Wembley gets the final. However, it appears capitalism has reared it's ugly head again, and the decision to go with Wembley for everything I'm sure has made plenty of money, but has definitely made the experience far worse, especially for the bigger clubs
