You are right it is all about the money , just a thought about promoting the other nations, not sure if they have already been decided yet do you think it would be possibly a good idea for the FAW & SFA to say put a bid in for a joint hosting of an U21 Tournament or another age level which would put both nations more in the European spotlight so they can then be given more European Tournament Final games ?

Thanks for the info despite being english im very anti Wembley its not got the appeal it once had they started to sell its soul when they started playing cup semi finals at the stadium and now you get vast parts of the stadium empty because seats owned by corporate who only take tickets when want to be seen and stop real supporters attending. Its now used for everything under the sun from the pizza cup to playoffs. So i stick with my view that i would like the semis and the final to be played in the other host nations They played the ‘pizza cup’ and play offs at the old Wembley. Even some semis were staged there. It’s not a post 2006 thing. Can’t blame them for using it at every opportunity, going to take years to pay it off.

Interesting sub plot with the Northern Irish (mainly unionist) fans being against using Casement Park. No doubt they think using a GAA stadium would emphasise the Irishness of Belfast and indeed Ulster, another factor pushing towards a united Ireland. Funding for it has been held up as it is by the NI executive not operating at the moment, because of the intransigence of the DUP.
On the automatic qualifying issue,it would seem impossible to just select 2 countries. Perhaps there should be some sort of play-off series between the 5 countries. On second thoughts no doubt much i hate to say it no doubt England would have to be given one of the automatic places as they would be providing most of the stadia. The other 4 could go into 2 legged semi and final playoffs for the 2nd place. The remaining 3 could then go into the normal qualifying process.
Havent seen official confirmation the semis would be at Wembley which would be highly unfair. Would give England another clear run to the final at home again ,but well see what happens.

Just back from a few days in Belfast (the drink is mega expensive nowadays) and the outward signs of a United Ireland in some quarters are becoming more and more evident. The noises amplified somewhat by the visit of Biden. Even the opening few displays in the Titanic Museum echo the sentiment, quite what it has to do with the Titanic lord knows. Obviously places like Sandy Row very pro "Our Wee Country" However as a friend of mine, a Northern Irish Catholic has repeatedly said, no-one in the North will ever vote for it as they would lose UK Benefits, Pensions etc.

To my understanding the CCS is too close to the MS to meet the requirements, I think they have to be a certain number of miles apart and the MS and CCS are within that range There's literally no way we could have offered more than 1 stadium for this bid unfortunately, as all other stadiums are too small. The idea that we'd turn the Racecourse into a 40k stadium for this is farcical imo, completely unrealistic It is unrealistic and farcical but as yourself why. 1. No motorway connecting north and south, thanks Westminster 2. No train line connecting north and South Wales , thanks Westminster 3. Back in the day when it become mandatory for stadiums to have seating and the potential of a big crowd in Wrexham went away did Westminster come crawling out of the woodwork to fund the oldest international sports stadium in the world with an arts Or social grant ? No. Would they if it was an English stadium that held that title? Undoubtedly. 4. Now we are about to “Host” the Euros as one big happy family. What an opportunity to make something beautiful happen as are all really mates. Let’s “put Wales on the map” with this incredible history ! Oh wait!? Let’s only use a rugby stadium instead then. 5. You talk about legacy of Euro 2016 but imagine the true legacy that could be left in the North of the country if they actually gave a fuck. This whole bid is just about ensuring Wembley gets yet another final. That’ll be 3 Euro finals in 8 years. Fuck me You do sometimes have valid points BUT the Welsh government have just stopped the M4 relief road and are a completely anti road government. The6 have just stopped 7 upgrades on roads South to North. with regards to the whole Wrexham stadium thing. Why would they need a 40k stadium? I imagine their ceiling is probably about 15k regulars once they find their level that would drop. Wales would struggle to sell 40k at anytime. I think it’s wrong that Wembely is getting 2 semis and the final but I can’t see any other way how we could be part of hosting any tournament these days with only one stadium.

It is an absolute disgrace that the North and South of our country are not linked up by a motorway and train link.
I bet there are very few example in the world of this.
Obviously, such a link would be very positive for economic development.

Yep and if we made it a subterranean tunnel like in other mountainous countries then we could preserve the beauty of our landscape. Again, this is only fund-able if we leave the UK and have our own central bank, there's no chance the bank of England would stump up the cash for that as it provides England will no material benefit

Stuff beauty. Most people will never see the beauty which I assume is a lot of land owned by farmers or unused. Furthermore, we would be talking about a narrow corridor! There has to be a bit of a trade off between people's prosperity and a small but of beauty that 99% of the population will never see. We could have a motorway and a train link running side by side. Cost would be enormous of course but goodness every other country has a motorway connection!
If we did this then surely it would provide a very material economic boost to Wales. You could have new towns emerging along that motorway and people would be much happier doing business, allocating business to and living in Wales!

Obviously, such a link would be very positive for economic development. There are direct north to south train services, just because they go into England doesn’t mean they aren’t direct. Nearly all GB railways are over 150 years old, majority of long distance trips are over several lines joined together, built by different companies in the 19th century, they were never meant to be a through route. GB hasn’t really invested heavily in its rail infrastructure since then until recent times.

Imagine if there had always been a training running from Ynys Mon to Pembroke straight down the west of Wales. Imagine how this would’ve effected Bangor, Aberystwyth and Fishguard. One of them could’ve been a major Welsh city. In an alternative history universe Aberystwyth or Bangor could be major Welsh speaking cities. Anyway it’ll never happen now. Just another bullshit thing that never happened in attempts to kill the Welsh culture..... but hey at least In 2028 the millennium stadium will host 3 games at the Euros

Of Course Wrexham FC don’t need a 40k stadium. Wrexham the biggest city in north Wales does though because half of our country deserves to host at least one competitive game a campaign. Historically this was our home. The UK government should’ve helped Wales maintain that stadium 40 years ago when seating rules changed. Ok maybe 40k is an exaggeration linked with hosting games at the euros but 30,000 I stand by. It’s the worlds oldest international stadium. WE US WALES!! Has the oldest international stadium in the world. Not Brazil, France , England or Uruguay but fucking Wales! It’s the way we shit on our own culture that makes us not give a fuck about this. Fuck me it should be a football hub that gives us all goosebumps going there. The real fans based in the south Who truly love Welsh football would love the thrill of travelling there for one game a campaign. It’s a part of history. It would be like a pilgrimage. This UK 28 bid could help create something beautiful. I stand by the point of that stadium was in England it wouldn’t be like this.

Would teams give up their play off spot to take the host spot leaving the play off to the next in line from the national league. Probably has to be that way or would result in the better placed teams having to go through the risk of the play offs. There's no way Scotland for instance could give their play off spot to Northern Ireland. Anyway nobody will want to be in the play offs this time unless there's have no other choice. You just about get away with it and 5k going to Qatar. Be an absolute nightmare in Germany, 20k plus trying to get last minute travel and accommodation.

Would undermine the integrity of the play-offs if a team was in it half heartedly. Perhaps better off not guaranteeing spots anymore given the expanded tournament, easier qualifying criteria and NL failsafes. I think its gotten to the stage where if you're a 'big' football nation its embarrassing if you don't qualify for the Euros.

Maybe if one day another World Cup were hosted on these islands, and Wrexham were in the Championship with demand for more seats, then it might be feasible. I love that as an ambition but I'd love to get there one day

Do you think the Brazilian government would allow the maracana to go to shit? Didn't Qatars government just build 8 of them and afterwards clubs move in? The point is in most countries the oldest international sport stadium in the world would be a 40.000 seater looked after. The UK government doesn't care about it, if it was English it would currently have 4 sides.

You could criticise every government in the world for something or other at the end of the day. That doesn't detract from the fact that the UK government has massively underinvested in Wales for around 500 years now. If you think that's a snipe at the English then that's quite telling about where the power rests isn't it?

Will never get over the fact that us Welsh voted for Brexit and in areas which benefited massively from inwards investment built on EU funds as we were a designated poor area. London centric Britain will never match that. Northern Ireland and Scotland were not so stupid. And why? Well they apparently believed the bullshit lies our ex-Etonian prime minister communicated when he decided the self serving political choice for him was to be anti-European. As all may be aware he had written 2 opposing articles on Brexit - one in favour and one against Brexit and decided on the former at the last minute.
I know we had COVID but the institution which was apparently going to massively benefit from Brexit - the NHS - is on its knees in significant part due to Brexit. Several times my wife has had big problems getting prescriptions for run of the mill, mass market but highly disruptive conditions. Operations are still subject to massive delays, the waiting lists on the private side for diagnosing and treating the mental health conditions of our children, which has not been helped by lockdown admitedley, are massively delayed by 6-9 months and its nigh on impossible getting it done on the State - and Brexit has contributed as it obviously impeded our supply of NHS staff from abroad - an issue which is persistent across all our industries. All these claims that hard working British people were being cut out of the jobs market because of so called foreigners taking their jobs - well they seem to have gone AWOL before and especially after COVID. These factors by the way are a key driver of our far higher rate of inflation than our European neighbours - our politicians would rather have us living through a worse cost of living crisis than we need to than to be seen to be backtracking on Brexit by allowing the people we need into country to fill our vacancies. This is not serving and looking after our people. This high inflation is disproportionately hurting lower income families with food price inflation in particular remaining at around 20% and energy bills having hit crazy levels. Now the exit from lockdown (where supply was restricted and there was pent up demand) and the war in the Ukraine explains the extremely high levels of inflation BUT UK inflation is far higher than in Europe or US.
Then you have the damage done to our one big success story of the last 50 years - the City / our financial services industry, where jobs and the high level of taxation associated with them are moving to Paris, Dublin, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
The above zig zag brings us to Wales and Welsh investment. We just don't matter becomes One Nation Tories and Labour see zero chance we will leave the union and unfortunately we have accepted a master servant relationship where we generate less than we spend and don't have the confidence to improve our situation - unlike Ireland which just cuts corporate tax to the bone to bring in international investment & jobs and makes up for lost taxation through higher personal income tax. That is why Scotland receives more than us - the spending on each Scottish child being significantly higher than a Welsh child - being the most visible example of this - as England sees a Scottish split as a real risk.
So when we talk about investing is sports infrastructure in Wales then lets get real - I would rather focus on improving road lines between North and South Wales - why oh why was a motorway never built between the two! We are our own worse enemies. We are not less talented or less able than other nations - even in politics look at what we have contributed just in terms to universal healthcare (which was based loosely I understand on what had been put in place in Tredegar) and the State pension which has benefited the whole of Britain for many decades / even one of the most successful Royal Dynasties which truly made Britain great again - The Tudors - had Welsh heritage are relied on that to win the War of the Roses and usher in a golden age when prior to this Britain was on the verge of bankruptcy.
We just don't have the self confidence we should. Hopefully one day we get politicians with vision which help us forge our own much brighter destiny. If we don't like it then we can change it but lets have a realistic vision of what we can become and as a minimum the plan needs at its centre outcomes from our policies that can have a realistic chance to improve our people's lives - which is the tricky part of course! By the way taxing and spending more will not achieve that! You need innovation - tech and banking jobs can surely be attracted, plans to far better exploit our tourism and associated history and policies which exploit our strengths and a plan of action to starts working on our weaknesses. Its not perfect but our neighbours across the Irish sea have a model we can examine from which we can pick out parts which can work for us and improve upon. Having just 3mn is not just a disadvantage - it can be a big advantage too if you can attract investment in by being allowed to compete against England on far more attractive terms.

Qualifying wise I think the fairest thing to do would be to have conventional Qualifying but with one or two spots reserved for the best team(s) who didn't qualify from UK and Ireland Qualifying: I like the idea of conventional qualifying with one spot saved for any of Cymru/Wales, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland or Scotland who didn't get in. Hosting: better to do it this way with Ireland involved than risk a 'UK' tournament. Schedule: expect the final to go to Wembley, it would be fairly tragic if Wembley got semis as well when Ireland, Scotland or ourselves able to host. Likelihood of it happening: high, Turkey has already failed in so many bids, even if it's boring to have yet another tournament basically happening in England. Lasting legacy (pros): hopefully investment in infrastructure, greater interest in health exercise and further showing of Wales as nation it our own right to the world; (cons): England will win another tournament at some point and they always do better in 'home' competitions.

Every Club themselves are responsible for their own stadium ( unless it’s council run like Swansea/ospreys) so Wrexham could have kept their higher capacity years ago but left their stadium to rot. God knows why you blame the UK government for that!! Do you think Adam price is going to be putting money into the Racecourse ground at the top of his election manifesto? Of course not. That’s just pie in the sky. You have no idea how narrow minded you are. You think I am for wanting Welsh teams in a Welsh league. Dear me. In every country in the world except the UK and a few European nations the government build stadiums or the governing body in charge. Instead of having views where time has stood still for you could you come into the 21st century and keep up with the under 40s? Do you think the Brazilian government would allow the maracana to go to shit? Didn't Qatars government just build 8 of them and afterwards clubs move in? The point is in most countries the oldest international sport stadium in the world would be a 40.000 seater looked after. The UK government doesn't care about it, if it was English it would currently have 4 sides. Every post you put up slags off the English/British Government. A few posts back you were slagging them off for not sorting out the road network even though that’s been a devolved issue and the Welsh Government have a stopped several road upgrades from North to South!!! please tell me why Wrexham FC hadn’t upgraded their ( oldest international stadium in the world) in donkeys years? They decided in their wisdom to let it rot. Was it top of Plaid Cymru’s manifesto over the past 30/40 years? No it wasn’t. you can blame the Government for many failures but if any government had decided to build a 40k all seater stadium at Wrexham they would have been criticised from pillar to post. It would have been a white elephant (with Wrexham playing in front of crowds of less than 5k for the past 20 odd years).
