Anyone have any ideas as to the most likely dates in June - for Scotland v Ukraine and, more pertinently for us, the Play-Off Final (Wales/Austria -v- Scotland/Ukraine)?
Are the closing (consecutive) Saturdays - 18 and 25 June - realistic possibilities, bearing in mind the Nations League fixtures clog-up in the first part of June?

Haven’t got a clue to be honest. If Ukraine can’t play for obvious reasons could Scotland move their Armenian fixture from Sat 4th June to Tue 7th June (their original Nations League date for Ukraine home). This will free up the first available fixtures in the Nations League window for both teams and then allow the 3 remaining Nations League fixtures in that window to allow us to play our best team. Pain for those of us who have booked to go to Poland but what team are we likely to play in that fixture if we have a World Cup Play off a few days later. I have given up on what to expect for booking any Wales trip after the farce of the Euro’s and now the lunatic in Moscow. We still need to beat Austria, and most of all we need peace in Europe 🤞

I’d say that the only safe fixture for us is the Poland away game as that would be the earliest date that Scotland and Ukraine could play.
All the others are subject to change

I agree, but I’m really struggling to see how Ukraine will be in a position to play Scotland anytime in June. I hope I’m wrong and am watching a Wales B team in Poland June 3rd 😃

Its been reported that Ukrainian footballers and other elite athletes are to be given permits to leave Ukraine and join up with training camps etc. Their minister for sports said it was important for them that their sports stars take part in international competitions, fly the flag and for the anthem to be heard. Theyll obvs be very keen to put a team into the play offs and send a massive FU to Putin. 6 of the 16 home based squad players have joined th army so probably wont be involved. I think its likely to go ahead though with their foreign based contingent available as well. The Poland game is safe for us i would have thought in that case but any of the other 3 could be moved.

If Ukraine can participate...
Is there any specific reason (other than "football overload") as to why the Nations League fixtures can't remain as originally scheduled, with the two Play-Off fixtures to take place post-14 June 2022?
In posing the question, I agree of course with the sentiments expressed in the last sentence of the first post by llantrisant007.

1- I increasingly think Ukraine will get a side together
2- Noel Mooney’s twitter feed suggests that June will involve more games, but perhaps after the NL games
3- The Scots seem to think they may be playing 6 games.
If I were a betting man I would expect the Scotland Ukraine NL game to be played around 31 May or 1 June. Their play off semi will then be played when their NL game was scheduled. My reasoning is that they may both have players in the Champions League final on 28 May. Not having them for the NL is better than not having them for the play off.
The final I think the authorities would like to get played 17-18 June. If we win Thursday, this is fine for us, subject to police clearance as there is an event both those nights at the Principality Stadium (hotels already at shortage I suspect).
This is not fine for Austria as Guns N Roses are playing at their stadium that weekend. I don’t know if one of their NL games will get moved date and stadium instead.
I suspect that they are waiting for the game on Thursday and the deal with it/announce after that.
I don’t see 25 June as being remotely feasible. The EFL starts on 30 July.

Remember the reason was to minimise NL disruption.

After our tremendous victory against Austria, what are the latest theories about June dates for Scotland v Ukraine and then us against the winners of that match? How much of a gap is there likely to be between the games?

Steve Clarke said something about postponing until September possibly. I really hope they don’t go down that road. That would take the mick.

I had the radio on while on my journey back to North Wales yesterday.I was listening to Ally Mcoist being interviewed by Adrian Childes regarding the possibility of a Wales v Scotland final (if they beat Ukraine of course). He made a comment it was very unlikely the play off's would take place in June, and mentioned August/September as the alternative options.

Postponing to June was sensible and the least uefa and the Austrians, us and Scots could do but after that it just becomes a pee take… playing the play off after the tournament would usually end!
If they can’t fulfil the fixture then too bad sorry to say. Even September probably won’t happen.

It could only happen to Wales!
Wish there was some way FIFA could just give a pass to the Ukraine but it obviously would not work given there would be one too many games in one group. It has to be resolved in the summer one way or another.

A delay until September would be appalling. A line has to be drawn somewhere. I thought qualified teams need months of planning to arrange their world cup bases, all of the logistics, etc. And that's not even mentioning how massively unfair it will be on fans trying to plan. Attempting to get flights and accommodation booked with 2 months notice when every other team has known for 8-12 months.

On the other hand, wev got 4 difficult games in June.Playing the final then would cause disruption,a postponement and fielding weakened sides in the others for what is effectively the start of qualification for the next Euros. Perhaps Mcoist was signalling that the Scots may not be too keen on playing up to 6 competitive games in June either. Id be quite happy if the final was moved to August or September, postponing the Belgiom game, which would give us a better chance than fitting it into the packed June schedule. Acomodation could be looked at and provisionally booked by the FAW and fans regardless. Its Qatar,in the winter, well prob try to go if we qualify but it is what it is. Its not ideal but what can you do. Werent the original play offs for Euro 2020 scheduled for March 3 months before the tournament, likewise for the next euros as well.

I think the current NL fixtures are Fri 03/06/22 Poland v Wales Sat 04/06/22 Scotland v Armenia Sat 04/06/22 Rep Ireland v Ukraine
Mon 06/06/22 Wales v Holland Tue 07/06/22 Armenia v Rep Ireland Tue 07/06/22 Scotland v Ukraine
If correct, path of least disruption with probably Scotland v Ukraine b/f to Fri 03/06/22 Fri 03/06/22 Poland v Wales Sat 04/06/22 Scotland v Ukraine instead of Armenia (WC Play Off SF) Sat 04/06/22 Rep Ireland v Armenia instead of Ukraine
Mon 06/06/22 Wales v Scotland/Ukraine instead of Holland (WC Play Off Final) Tue 07/06/22 Armenia v Rep Ireland Tue 07/06/22 Scotland/Ukraine v Holland (Friendly)
The rearranged NL fixtures moved to end of June or Sept/Oct dates Wales v Holland Scotland v Ukraine

Another mistake we make is thinking that changing one of our home games causes least disruption as many of us have booked trips to Poland/Netherlands.
We also need to remember is that Dutch and Belgium fans would have booked flights and hotels to our home games too.

It has to take place in an international window. I wouldn’t place much reliance on what McCoist says. The press was full of nonsense about dates in November for the NL, our game definitely being postponed, and much of it has turned out to be shit. The fact that there hasn’t been an announcement yet, tells you it’s very difficult. I would speculate, given the mentions about September from Scotland, that they aren’t happy about what is being proposed for June.

If we play Poland away, and then the play off final a few days later instead of Netherlands at home, I would be tempted to leave the first team back in Cardiff to make sure they're just fully concentrated on the final.

The noises that are coming from Scotland sounds like that they prefer September. Later fixtures will surely also help Ukraine. I can't see big-hitters like Netherlands or Belgium willingly changing June fixtures. And we have a CEO that wouldn't want to damage his career prospects by rocking the global football boat. It's going to be moved to September isn't it?
I guess that we will have a better idea on Friday.

Big ask for the team but more margin for error in the Nations League. If we get relegated so be it but hopefully we can recover it in the next matches but only one chance at the World Cup. Not sure what UEFA would say about not playing our strongest team though.

If the 'rumour mill' is correct that FIFA/UEFA want to play both play off matches, along with all NL matches completed during June.It might be me, but it sounds extreme, from a Scotland/Ukraine perspective they could be enforced to play 6 matches in a period of potentially 16 days.I am certain player's clubs and agents will have a lot to say on this matter? Along with all the travelling involved. Also if the countries who have qualified for the play off final decide to field weakened sides for the NL matches will wind up UEFA.

This is a guess because I don’t have access to the UEFA accounts, but I’m still *pretty* sure they could afford to compensate anyone affected. After all it’s been UEFA’s decision to allow Ukraine time so they are ultimately responsible for any inconvenience caused, not the FAs themselves.

I would expect an announcement by this time next week or it’s clear that there is a very real problem.

Its a real issue for both FIFA and UEFA. FIFA will need it sorted asap so they can get on with the final organisation. Does anyone think the Qatari organisers will set aside a lump of accommodation for the team caught up in this ? 2 or 3 thousand rooms may not be sufficient for the Scottish but would probably be ok for ourselves and probably more than enough for Ukraine.
UEFA have the qualifying draw for Germany 24 scheduled for October. The nations league plays such an integral part in the seeding these days it'll have to have finished or the draw delayed. A couple of good results for ourselves against Poland and we could be on the cusp of Pot 1 for that draw.
