One of the mods moved this from the wales u21 Vs Armenia 2015 thread, anyway… from the starting 11 that day, Lockyer, Burns & Wilson likely to be in June’s squad! A chance for Sheehan, Evans & John to get in possibly!
I’d like to see Hedges, Sheehan, Lowery and maybe Savage added to the squad.
If it’s an attacking 4-3-3 /4-2-3-1 I’d like to see Connor and Neco remain as full backs. If Davies has got to play I’d have him as CB
If everyone’s fit :
Ward Connor Meps Davies Neco Ampadu Morrell Brennan Rambo Brooks Bradshaw/Moore
Please don’t play it safe, have a go!

This has to be three points, it's a tough game but we need to be on it, our results against Armenia and Latvia could be the difference because I definitely see them taking points off of Turkey.

I’d go for
Ward
Neco Rodon Mepham Davies
Ampadu Morrell
Brennan Rambo DJ
Moore
Not that we score many, but if we do score a few before the 60 min mark I’d like to see Croatia-eque subs.
Would like to see Terry Taylor (if fit) added to the squad, amongst the usual suspects who’ll return. Maybe even Mr Campbell given a senior call-up - form provided of course. Then put the saga put to bed either way!

It's been disastrous on the few occasions it's been tried at club level. Add to that the lopsided formation we used in the last game where the left back tucked in almost to form a 3 with the right back pushing up + Connor's very poor displays, I think there's many reasons to like that lineup. That said, we played that lopsided / asymmetrical system (no idea what it's called) to suit the strengths of Wilson who could move more central with the RB providing width, and James who could hog the touchline. Johnson's much better hogging the touchline too, so I would be tempted with starting Wilson on the right and Johnson on the left.

For me, it would be like asking Dan James to play as a centre mid or something, it's just a completely different position. Mourinho played him there a couple of times in the Europa and Davies really struggled. As for leaving him out of the team completely, I don't really get the thought process there. He's one of our best players, a leader, and likely only left-footer. Add to that the really poor performances from Roberts recently. Before the last couple of games I would have had Davies coming in for Neco (or a back 5 against better sides), but I now think that Roberts should be the one to make way. Either way, Davies is a nailed on starter.

Either way, Davies is a nailed on starter. Nah I think with a run of games he can play CB in a back 4, might take a bit of time to get used to but he can do it. Being harsh, when he plays Lb in a back 4 he tends to get the ball stuck under his feet at times & is more predictable than Neco who can go either way, can carry the ball forward better & hit a long ball. Davies is a great player with space in front of him which not everyone is, but he struggles a bit more when he’s out under pressure and there isn’t much room. I thought Connor was tidy both games and any criticism was exaggerated, but fair enough! Against the top sides when we need to be a bit more defensively sound I’d have Davies as LB or LCB, but against Armenia I’d like to see us be brave, push both full backs up and down the pitch

I’d like to see if we can convert Neco like we converted Bale ;-)
So something like this:
Roberts Mepham Rodon Davies
Ampadu Ramsey Morrell
Johnson Moore Neco
This has the bonus of built-in flexibility to switch to:
Mepham Rodon Davies
Roberts Ampadu Ramsey Morrell Neco
Johnson Moore

On a separate note does anybody have insight on the current political situation there and the likelihood as to whether away fans will be allowed to travel?

On a separate note does anybody have insight on the current political situation there and the likelihood as to whether away fans will be allowed to travel? UEFA banned the sale of tickets Türkiye fans in an attempt to stop them travelling to Armenia, but that’s to do with long standing issues between the 2 countries. There’s no ban in place on Brits/ Welsh traveling to Armenia, however the Foreign Office advise against traveling to the border with Azerbaijan and certain parts in the East of the country. Wonky Sheep are running a trip, so I can’t see why fans can’t travel. Armenia strikes me as being a hard place to get to. The border with Türkiye is closed, the border with Azerbaijan is closed as they’re in conflict/at war, I don’t think going via Iran is sensible so options are limited and very expensive.

I know someone who is going to Yerevan for a different reason later this year, and they are flying to Cyprus and then onto Armenia
I think generally it is worth looking into changeover flights, I think you can change in a number of places in Europe. You can definitely fly to Istanbul and then to Armenia as well

Armenia tickets seem to be shifting really well. Still a few bits to go on sale but all blocks now open. Wouldn't be surprised to see it sold out within a couple of weeks.

Of the tickets that are currently on sale, I doubt there will be many left by this time next week.

I haven't checked for a couple of weeks and wow they've sold well. General sale opened 9th May. I would agree with others this will sell out long before the 16th June.

Wonder if Armenia will bring along a few more supporters than Latvia did?
Apparently, there are tens of thousands of Armenian people living in the UK, with a small community based in Cardiff.

Reason for enquiring about the extent of the Armenian support at the 18th June game was that there always seems to be a better atmosphere, and our home crowd itself has bit more 'hwyl' about it, at CC Stadium if the away lot - and a decent number of them - are making a bit of a noise.

Not quite true, the majority of what is traditionally the away end is on sale to Welsh fans, however the couple of smaller blocks between the Ninian & Grange are currently set aside for Armenians. Whether that remains the case is another matter.

Ward injury looks to be a problem, Neco & RND still out
However, Brennan, Davies, Levitt, Hennessey & Brooks all set for a return, so possibly on balance our squad will be looking better
Hennessey Roberts-Mepham-Rodon-Davies Ampadu-Morrell Wilson-Ramsey-Brennan Moore
That would be my favoured lineup. I really want to start Lockyer, but I know he's used to being in the middle of a back 3 for Luton, and I wonder if it's a bit of a risk disrupting the Mepham-Rodon partnership against Armenia - who they should both be able to handle
On balance that looks like a side with plenty enough strength to beat Armenia. All of them are either playing for a club in the top tier this season, or will be playing in the top tier next season
Wilson has hit a good run of form, and I think he and Brennan & Rambo will provide plenty of guile to be able to breakdown a deep sitting team. Moore of course will always be a threat against these opponents
