Last night was the most diverse crowd I’ve ever seen at a Wales game. One of the few positives. Why do we always disappoint a big crowd?

I actually said to my sister yesterday it was great to see so many kids and women at the game, and that probably in the 50/60s it would’ve mainly been working aged white men. I actually attend home matches with a variation of ages and genders.

Is the Canton stand what it was? Yesterday it was mainly coaked up middle aged men slating every player on the field. Yes we all know it was a poor preference but isn't that when they need us most. Everyone on social media slated the family stand in the last game for there light show but at least they were all behind the team cheating and enjoying there matchday experience. If all else fails… blame the crowd Ffs 🤦♂️

Whilst it still feels crap, let's be clear that if we were as clinical as they were we wouldn't have lost that game. We missed at least three or four clear cut chances that we should have buried. Forwards almost as culpable as the defenders IMO. 100% we had loads of threat and bags of chances. They have 5 and score 4. Don’t think ward made a save!

To be fair he couldn’t have done anything about those goals. His positioning I don’t know? But Hennessy comes back in for sure after this match!

Noticeably more black and Asian faces in the Ninian too all decked out in Welsh gear. As frustrating as Friday was, it was incredible to see what the last few years have done off the field.

That is absolutely beautiful
Goodness I hope this team can deliver for them as much as anything, and themselves. We need the likes of Brennan to rediscover top form quickly. James was probably the only one who performed close to his standard. He gives so much to this team every game - I wish people would recognise how lucky we are to have him and his commitment

Read somewhere it was planned by FAW and they were all given tickets. I don't think it was a conscious decision by the individuals to decide to start attending Wales games.

Roberts got murdered time and time again, not sure I've seen more comprehensive displays of a defender being utterly humiliated and not taken off.

I suspect that Page will attribute all our goals conceded against Armenia to individual errors, and therefore use this as a basis to continue with the 4-4-2, with Ramsey as a holding midfielder in tomorrow's game.
Whilst it's true that individual errors played a significant role in the second goal (Rodon) and the fourth (Morrell), Page's tactical decisions played a big part in the first and third goals.
Literally 30 seconds before the Armenia equalizer Osian Roberts said in commentary on S4C that Cymru just needed to keep their shape and discipline, and wait for the chances to attack on the counter. What happens next is that Wilson goes on the attack, and loses possession on the edge of the Armenia penalty area. Who is there to challenge for the ball? Ramsey. Once he fails to win the ball back he's totally out of the picture defensively, as is Moore, Wilson and James, once the ball is passed out to Armenia's right. Johnson is closer to the Wales goal at this point than the Armenia player who subsequently crosses for the equalizer, at which point – having jogged back – Johnson is 25 yards behind the play. It's obvious that Page pins the blame entirely on Johnson, as he immediately moved him inside until halftime and pushes Wilson out wide.
It's obvious that Page didn't have a problem with Ramsey bombing forwards as he continued to do so in the second half, including for the critical third goal. Had he kept his positional discipline Ramsey would have been able to cut out the long cross field pass that led to the goal. The pundits laid it all on Rodon – but he was presented with the difficult choice of holding his position or closing the huge gap available to an Armenian attacker inside Ben Davies on the left. Easy to be wise with the benefit of hindsight, but the real defensive flaw was the failure of Ramsey to hold his position.
For those with long memories, the game was a case of deja vu. In one of Giggs first games in charge we played a 4-4-2, with Ramsey holding alongside Allen, against Denmark – and the game followed a very similar pattern, with huge spaces presented to the opposition due largely to Ramsey's lack of positional discipline.
If Page doesn't belatedly recognise the error of his ways after Friday night's debacle and continues to play Ramsey in a double pivot then he has to go. There is simply no basis for thinking this will ever work. I don't claim any real insight here, anyone who knows anything about football will agree. So how the fyc does Page think differently?

Personally I think Ramsey is finished, we are carrying him and the fact he is captain is yet another bad decision from Page, maybe it was the only way he could persuade Ramsey to continue, but playing anonymously for an hour before coming off is not being a leader.

Ramsey can still make a contribution further forwards, or in a midfield three, as long as he has players alongside him who can compensate for his lack of defensive discipline.

Then said .. we seen worse haven't we We’re in the Ninian and there did seem to be a lot more girls and women there than in other games, there were also lots of young kids and families around us which I’ve not noticed before. I suspect the Friday night evening kick off gives parents the opportunity to get to the game without the worry of school the next day. There were a couple of kids with those horns directly behind us, they blew them a couple of time before kick off and they were really loud in fact I’d use the term deafening. I had to bite my tongue but to be fair to them they didn’t blast them after the anthems. Good to see kids, families and women at the game.

Amongst all the utter nonsense talked on these boards since Friday night your two posts, Winsumluzsum, actually shed a light amongst all the misdirected heat. I have no wish to jump on the Page out bandwagon but our troubles in the game all stemmed from the issue you described, for which he it to blame. Ramsey is not a sitting midfielder. You can't assign him to that role and expect him to fulfil it.

He's a professional footballer, are we going to assume they are completely oblivious to the roles and responsibilities that's required of them in unfamiliar positions, especially as we've been playing with 2 CDM for about 10 years? Does he not listen to the tactics for any position but his own. If we're getting absolutely hammered with long balls into the box, Rodon has to go off for treatment and we ask Moore just to fill in for a few minutes until he's back, will he be storming down the pitch to score leaving a massive hole at the back because he doesnt understand the difference?

Well, you can ask him, obviously. But he hadn't performed the role well for us previously and there was every reason to believe that the same would be true on Friday night. Which of course it was. The proof of this pudding is in its multiple eatings. And having set up the team the way he had, Page had very few options to change the formation without changing the personnel. Essentially, he needed to bring on Morrell half way through the first half, taking off either Ramsey or Wilson in the process. He'd have been crucified for doing so of course, which may have been the reason why he didn't.

Just looked back at what I posted on this thread on 4 June 2023... Pagey doesn't read our posts, obviously!.....
" Grant-Leon Ranos : we shall need to watch this guy (Armenia's promising young striker), ex-Bayern Munich and has now signed for Borussia Monchengladbach.
He won his first cap in Armenia's most recent outing, a friendly against Cyprus on 28 March 2023. He also scored his first two international goals, as the game ended in a 2–2 draw."

Two bits of non-football related observations- - no (or not many) ball boys? Why? Helped the Armenian time wasting. - No Yma o Hyd Absolutely agree re the ball boys. I couldn't believe what was happening - just gifting the Armenians the chance to time waste at every throw-in or goal kick. It was so bad that I assumed it must be some kind of UEFA directive. Then, lo and behold, a few days later, the Turkish had it sussed to such an extent that a ball was being provided within a second of one going out of play. Incredible contrast which makes the FAW look positively amateur.
