Deary me, deary me. ISTANBUL, May 3 (Reuters) - Turkey has closed its airspace to Armenian flights heading to a third destination in response to the unveiling of a controversial monument in Yerevan last week, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday. The monument commemorates those involved in an assassination plot against Ottoman Turkish officials whom Armenia holds responsible for mass killings of ethnic Armenians during World War One. Yerevan says the killings constitute a genocide, a charge Ankara denies. Speaking to broadcaster NTV, Cavusoglu said Turkey would take further steps if the monument is not removed. www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/turkey-has-shut-its-airspace-armenian-flights-minister-2023-05-03/

Very sad news! Hopefully, like most of these tit for tat actions, it will blow off in time for our game. Frankly, I'm more worried about the Azeris and their campaigns ;-(

Maybe I should book a Flix bus from Istanbul to Yerevan return, as back-up.

A quick heads up for those that have not yet booked this.
Other than Lufthansa and Agean (with often poor connecting flights) and Pegasus (quite decent connections) Wizz Air has about ten hub airports that you can use to get to Yerevan - wizzair.com/en-gb/cheap-flights-to-yerevan WIZZ AIR annually celebrates their 'birthday' in MID-MAY (I believe it is around 17 May) and almost always do a big 30% promotion for (usually) 48 hours around that time. This tends to be the best deal on their flights (most of their other deals are 20% off - usually only for members - and club membership is around £35). You can get their newsletter here - wizzair.com/en-gb/newsletter DISCOUNT CLUB MEMBERSHIPIf there are two of you, or if you are intending to use Wizz at least twice in a calendar year, it is almost always beneficial to ADD THIS MEMBERSHIP (€40 fee) when you purchase your flight ticket!

Cheers Senny, do you know if that was with accommodation or just flights only? He says it was for direct flights, 3 nights accommodation with breakfast, and transfers to and from the airport. He booked it about 4 months ago. I think they were doing the flight only option for £ 599 but they're long since sold out. They have a waiting list which you should put your names on if interested. He may put on another trip if there's sufficient interest. I live near Stansted so its a bit easier for me to get on numerous flights. I did use them for the euros in Baku and nearly came from Qatar with them. They were really good to be honest. You can be having a drink in a Yerevan pub on Thursday evening and back home for dinner on Sunday evening. By conventional flights your probably not getting there for a drink on Thursday, short of going a day earlier. You have almost chance of getting back for work on Monday, short of going to the airport straight after the game. And scheduled flights don't seem to be quite as cheap as they were. If taken 11 flights this year and every one of them has been completely full, even the Ryanair flights in and out of non entity airports. I've part booked Armenia, the Vienna - Yerevan bit, but I've not done anything about Turkey, a little worried about the aftermath of todays elections.

I have registered our interest, its my eldests first away and I don't want too much hassle with the flights, got a flight earmarked from Manchester but it will be 3 flights there and back, going to give it a few weeks and if wonky don't come back to me I will book. Cheers for the help EB 👍

Vienna to Yereven return, Thursday til Sunday, £308 Vienna. It means nothing to me.
As long as Wizz don't mess up my timetable ... their Venice Marco Polo return flight have amazingly convenient arrival/departure times and I get 2 nights in a new destination away from peak tourist season ;-)

Vienna to Yereven return, Thursday til Sunday, £308 Just had my outbound flight from Vienna altered from around 4 in the afternoon to 6 in the morning. They say its a schedule change but tome it looks like they've added another flight as the original is still available. Luckily for me I hadn't booked the London to Vienna but it'll we a pain for anyone that has. They've also added an additional early afternoon on the Sunday which can get you back into London for early evening.

JUST A WEE REMINDER - WIZZ AIR ARE BOUND TO SLASH ALMOST ALL FLIGHTS BY 30% FRIDAY/SATURDAY for their Birthday on the 18th

This is what I'm looking at yeah. Bit worried about the 3 hour layover but should be ok hopefully. Thanks for the heads up on the Wizz birthday discount, waiting for that before pulling the trigger on the flights. Got them lined up ready to go.

You seem to know more about these things than most. They've chucked us off our booked flight going and put us on the earlier flight. They've called it a schedule change but the original flight is still running ! Can I say no, I want to stay with the original timings, they don't appear to be giving me that option. I haven't booked the London Vienna flight yet, as luck would have it, but I could really do without going on Wednesday.

From my experience with wizz Air they will often keep flights that have long been canceled on their website. They kept the cardiff flights live for weeks after email me about their total cancellation of all cardiff routes. Call their customers service. One thing that I can say about their customers service is that when the no longer connecting flight is also with them - they have always allowed me to reschedule them both.

Needed to do a double take when I was reading that the Armenian dram is now 475 to the pound... and I was right. It was around 630 when I was there in 2017... It appears that it gained about 10% in value post-covid and it rocketed in value last year with the Ukrainian War. Seems that an economy heavily dependent on Russia and Iran is actually a good thing!

I booked to go via from Manchester to Prague and then Prague to Yerevan.
Wizz Air have just rescheduled the Prague to Yerevan from Friday to Saturday ffs (meaning we'd miss the game)
Someone I know is going via Larnaca but does anybody else know of any viable routes?

Booked with Aegean. London - Athens - Yerevan. I booked it as 2 separate legs as it was much cheaper than booking it as a single trip Gatwick - Yerevan, with the same transfer in Athens. Just checked prices for the same combination of flights, they’ve trebled since I booked. Mainly due to the return flight from Yerevan. Can only assume that quite a few have chosen the same route.

Pegasus allow you pay a bit extra and the flights are then fully cancellable/refundable if you change your mind - when I booked they had a promotion which meant I could add this for £1 per flight.

We're going from and back to Vienna with Wizz Air. Not booked the London / Vienna flights yet which is a bit fortunate as they brought the outboard flight forward by 10 hours. It means spending Wednesday night in Vienna airport which is a bit of an arse ache compared to the original schedule. They seem to like a change Wizzair.

Will be 4 days away so hopefully it will be a great first away trip for the eldest.

Now had about 3 or 4 flights cancelled or rearranged trying to book this trip. Anyone else had similar?
Tried doing Stansted to Vilnius and Vilnius to Yerevan then flights same way back. Vilnius to Yerevan return got cancelled.
Now had London to Larnaca flights changed to the day after so messed up our connecting flight to Yerevan.
Becoming a right pain this trip.

Have a look at a website like flightsfrom.com or similar. That will give you a fair indication as to destinations and airlines. The airline that flies there the most is WizzAir, although as we know, they are flaky as hell.

Wizz tend to be ok about allowing you to use other hubs - if you call their customer service and talk to a human. Their web site route changing option tend to be limited to nearby cities / dates.
At the moment my 1 over-night in Venice has turned into THREE ... I might need to look into finding info about the local opera ;-)

There is a post on fb from Wonky suggesting that he is looking to put on extra seats for Armenia Away. If you are still thinking of going, it might be worthwhile to get yourself on their reserve list.
