If your guesstimate is anywhere near accurate that is remarkable as the logistics are a pig Sounds about right to me. Sold 1100 tickets, I personally know a few people going without tickets, and seems to be quite a lot on here with tickets in the home end. Brilliant following, hats off to all of you. I booked mine and the eldests fights 6 months ago, manch-heath-warsaw-yerevan 🤣 we were going with tickets or not, lucky we have got them, in the home end though, don't care, my eldests first away and what a trip 🤣

Think it’s already been said but the app is rubbish and doesn’t let me scroll back enough. So has anyone looked at SIM cards yet? Presume there’ll be some advice in the FSA booklet but if anyone’s got any suggestions I’d rather look at getting it sorted. Cheers

Suppose I could get one at the airport when I land like we did in Qatar. I also saw this website but the sims work out a little dearer - www.airalo.com/armenia-esimI'm on 02 and sadly Armenia isn't one of the destinations where I can pay £6 a day and roam as normal.

Cheers Ucom telecom in the city, 6GB for 1700 AMD = €4 valid 30 days, 200 min + 200 txt, SIM for free. If you have an option of e-Sim on you phone, you might prefer a data only 1G for about £5 to tide you over the first day - try esimdb.com/
If your phone is old school and you still like the idea of an eSim possibility on it, there is a simple hack at www.mobupgrade.com
Personally, I tend to use MAPS.ME to get into town - and that works perfectly offline.

From memory, back in 2017, Yerevan airport (even early lunchtime) only had two money changers and one simple kiosk. The money changer just BEFORE the passport control was an official Converse Bank with the same rate as downtown and has a decent exchange rate. Gives really good rate for USD, decet for EURO and slightly less for £. See - www.conversebank.am/en/exchange-rate/

ARMENIA TRAVEL GUIDE
Waited a little with this, so that it won't be drowned in the ticket allocation / home end discussion ...
I've been three times to Armenia - the latest trip was a wonderful week in September 2017, beofre our Tbilisi game.
It seems that since the Azeri PM finally declared full control over Artzakh on 16 October, most of the violent demonstrations are now focused on what Google Maps call "Embassy of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" - which is about 4 miles North of town. Still, I strongly advise people not to stay too close to Republic Square.
AN ABSOLUTE MUST APP TO HAVE is YANDEX MAPS as google is a total waste of time, especially for transport. Use GG TAXI app for local uber-like taxi and the A2B Transport app for marshrutka routes. Otherwise, uTaxi and YANDEX-GO are also good. Reckon on about 100AMD/km for a local taxi in town. Marshrutka (any distance) 100 AMD / 20p rides (same as metro). BOLT has only been in Yerevan for under a year - and although it has slightly better rates, it also has fewer cars. Worth trying...
Airport
minibus (Elitebus) number 201 fr 07:00 to 21:30 every 30 minutes for 300 AMD / 60p terminates at Yeritasardakan Metro (Metronome Shopping Centre) entrance 1km from Republic Sq. For same price, you can also use Express SHUTTLE BUS number 100 (until 11pm) that terminates in “French square” Mashtots Avenue / Amiryan St close to Missak Manouchian Park “Միսաք Մանուշյանի անվան պուրակ” - BOTH THESE ACCEPT CASH AMD ONLY (but if you have to, I'd say offer any passenger 1 USD bill or €1 and they will gladly pay for you (and probably insist on no money...).
TAXI on GG or Yandex GO app from Airport to downtown (10km) is around 2500-3000 / £5-6!
MONEY EXCHANGEThe Money exchange booth in the airport ARRIVAL HALL BEFORE IMMIGRATION has a decent exchange rate and offers the same exact rate as its Converse Bank branches downtown. Gives great rate for POUNDS (almost always been the top rate), consistantly gives the best rate for USD (cash) and slightly less for the euro. See a live rate here (currently its £/480 ) - www.conversebank.am/en/exchange-rate/ - NOTE ATM withdraweals on debit cards should give you 486d-488d - and considering most Armenian hosts insist on cash payments on arrival day, you may wish to hold off until you find an ATM and just change £10 at the airport.
Noravank, Geghart, Khor Virap, the Areni winery (including a wine tasting) — all these amazing sites are free to enter and visit.
IF YOU ONLY HAVE TIME TO VISIT ONE 'attraction' - please make it the Genocide Memorial. This is not a glitzy / shiny Jerusalem style Yad Vashem - it is much more low-key, but very informative.
The Armenian Genocide Museum Known locally by the placename "Tsitsernakaberd" - its only 20 minutes away from dowtown. Take many of the South-bound minivans along Mashtots Ave (46 and 75) as well as bus numbers 1, 27 and 33 – get off just after the HRAZDAN FOOTBALL STADIUM (on your right) officially called “Brazil Square” – and carry on in same direction for another 100yds. Its on your right. Coming back, you may be better off crossing the road and getting a marshrutka from the DALMA Garden Shopping Mall. The Yandex and GG taxi apps quote 650 drams £1.30 from the city centre. BOLT quotes 500d.
Etchmiadzin Cathedral = Էջմիածնի Մայր Տաճար OR ON YANDEX ITS Ejmiatsin – DIRECT MINIBUS 203 (300d) every 25 mins fr Mashtots Ave (Poghots) / Amiryan St (going South/West, cross Ave) – 35 minutes WEST, past AIRPORT, towards small city of Vagharshapat Վաղարշապատ Also, BUS 202 (300d) from Kilikia Bus Station every 10 mins! HALF-WAY along the route there, are the ...
RUINS of ZVARTNOTS CATHEDRAL – Զվարթնոց արգելոց թանգարան all marshrutkas 202 and 203 going between Yerevan-Vagharshapat will pass thro. Marshrutka cost in 2023 300 AMD and ENTRY FEE 2023 is 1300 AMD
FURTHER AFIELD - BUT REALLY WORTHY ARE
Khor Virap monastery = Խոր Վիրապ in ARARAT town for spectacular Mt Ararat views - get the metro in Yerevan (100 AMD) to Sasuntsi Davit Train Station then a 1hr bus ride – look for the sign “Арарат” on the minibus / marshrutka.
Geghard Monastery and Garni Temple from Yerevan, take bus 20, 36 or 44 to the Gai bus station. From Gai Marshrutka 266 departs for Geghard monastery every 30-40 minutes when the bus is full. The trip takes about 1 hour and costs 350d. Geghard is free. 1500 AMD for Garni (125 STUDENT), 10km away from eachother – possibly go onto to Goght village, 4km from monestary
BUSINESS LUNCH ( Бизнес-ланчи )
Note: places with the name “BUFFET” are LIDO style self-serve CANTEENS…
Fourchette Buffet AND Karas both have five branches each and most of them are open 24/7!
For all you mineral water lovers - The Georgian brand BORJOMI is readily available in many places and is superb! The Armenian BJNI is nice and JERMUK is not as flavourful or sparkling...

Ah yes, thanks for that - my mates are travelling there in a fortnight - I'll see them tonight for a pint and was just wondering what was happening. (I can't make the trip myself, unfortunately, even though I'd initially thought about going).

Like a few on here have mentioned, I also get into Yerevan at totally silly o’clock, after an all day airplane extravaganza.
Going to be shattered and not keen to be hunting for a money exchange and haggling with cabbies.
I got an email from my hotel (Ibis Central) offering to sort a cab for 6,000 AMD = £12. Probably more than the going rate, but booked it, paid the hotel in local currency with Revolut, easy.
The bonus was the reply after paying. Thinking I would just receive a pre-paid voucher, to use an airport rank cab, as in Riga and other places, I was chuffed to be told I’m getting the full airport arrivals hall, name board meet by the driver.
I’m well happy with that. Worth considering, if your hotel offers a similar deal.
For anyone else staying at the Ibis Central, it’s allegedly got a 24 hour bar. It’s going to be Kronenbourg and cornflakes, before crashing for the day !

ARMENIA TRAVEL GUIDE

Great info... As usual. Thank you. One question - any idea what the walk is like to the genocide museum? I see from Google maps it's around 2 miles, which is fine, but is it walkable? By that I mean are there pavements etc and not up some dual carriageway?!?

Can't honestly say, as I took the marshrutka (100 AMD). Pretty much all minivans going South on Mashtots Ave, will go to the junction where Dalma Garden Shopping Mall is.
Mashtots Ave itself is a busy road - the main through-fare in Yerevan. So yes. It will be paved, but not scenic.
Half-way there, you could perhaps combine a visit to ARARAT BRANDY museum - it used to be free of charge - I believe it is now €10
