Wes Burns looked pretty fit bombing up and down the right for Ipswich yesterday.

This weekend Tom Lockyer and Wes Burns looked fine for their respective clubs having not been available for us. I know it's been an issue in the past and in March we had that ridiculous situation where Brennan Johnson was clearly fit to play for us but didn't join up with the squad for various reasons.
I understand that Lockyer and Burns want to be 100% for their clubs as they're in relegation and promotion battles respectively, I get that but I think these situations need to be monitored closely. If I was the FAW I'd want reasons why this happened, why couldn't they join up with Wales if days later they're running around and giving everything for their clubs? I thought there was meant to be a rule where if you can't join up with your country because you're deemed unfit you miss the next game for your club. Clearly that isn't the case but I swear that was a rule that was meant to be coming in.
You either want to play for Wales or you don't, I've given Brennan the benefit of the doubt and will do for these two but if it happens again I think we've got a problem on our hands that needs to be addressed sharpish. Together Stronger isn't a marketing tool, it has meaning, you're either in or you're not.
I've just noticed that Dan James is sprinting around like a livewire for Leeds, please not him, he's one of my favourite players who I've always thought gives everything and would run through walls with the dragon on his chest.

James missed games before the international break
Burns joined up with the squad and was deemed unfit, presumably by our physios

James and Lockyer missed their club games before joining up. Johnson did too incidentally, and still joined up, so it's worked the other way too. I can't see an issue with any of these. Players sometimes just have injuries that keep them out for a few days or a week or two.

This has been talked to death over the years and despite loads of accusations, in nearly every occasion the players proved over a long period of time that they were dedicated to Wales.
I’ve said on the Lockyer thread that players miss the odd week here and there throughout the season and no one even raises an eyebrow, some of those odd weeks will fall on international week and these all seem be some of those examples.
We really do need to give players the benefit of the doubt until we have any real sort of evidence to the contrary.

Regarding Wes Burns, he was playing for us against Korea Rep - so he must have been considered unfit to travel to Latvia by our own medical team. It wasn't a case of him "not turning up for camp". I'm guessing he had a slight niggle, making it a bad idea to play on Monday,11th but fit again by Saturday,16th after a few days rest.
