A lot of us have completely lost a sense of perspective and balance. Thank god we didn't have this board back in the 90s. We also weren't as near as successful in the 90's, and expectations are higher now. The latter part of your sentence sums it up.

I'm not saying you're wrong btw, but we are in a different era now where being able to complete and qualify is a realistic goal, especially with the expansion of tournaments.

Realistic expectations are fine, no problem with that. I feel a few of us stray into entitlement with hyperbolic reactions when things don't go our way. To add my tuppence worth, when we pulled out both Croatia and Turkey in the draw I thought that it was going to be a tough ask to qualify. Turkey were the ones to avoid in pot 3, just like we were back in 2015/16. Getting Poland in the play offs was less than fortunate too.

Anyone got any ideas how we didn’t create clearcut chances against Poland?
Red herring for me is this 120 mins Poland no shots on target. Well we had three on target and 3 off. Poland had 10 off target and they could have scored with a few.
Do we have to bite the bullet and get rid of the 5 at the back?

Name 3 potential candidates ? Bellamy having a horrible time with Burnley. Cooper or Osian? What’s the thought process?

It's not happening so why even think about it at this stage?

Not to be pedantic but they were actually pot 4, so it was gutting to draw them. That said we got a "favourable" team from pot 3 and we saw how that went. We never make things easy.

The overall thrust of my argument remains the same, it was a sticky draw for us. Could we have done better? Yes. Should we expect, in the truest sense of the word, to qualify from that group? No.

Struggling to let this one go. I left the stadium and I wasn’t devastated. We’d got the World Cup monkey off our back, Semi final 2016 Euros. But just not good enough to beat Poland. Armenia home and away the killer. Oh well. Gutted!

If we didnt draw Serbia@ pot 4 for the 2018WCQ we should have at least secured a playoff berth or probably qualified directly as we may not need to defeat Ireland for a playoff berth and hence may defend well to get a draw…

How Ireland won that is anyone's guess. Remember watching the first 10 minutes and thinking they're terrified of us and least said about the goal or the job they did on Joe Allen the better! They stunk out the playoffs anyway.

We have enough quality to create chances but we are not doing so, over to Page for the answers.

Remember we were 1-0 at 82’ at home vs Serbia, Bale hit the post and then Mitrovic immediately equalised? And leading Georgia by 1-0(Bale’s goal) and eventually 1–1 Twice led Austria by a goal away from home and finished 2-2 Led Serbia away from home by 1-0 courtesy of Ramsey’s PK and Mitrovic made it 1-1. Maintained the lead in any of these 4 matches and we would finish at least 2nd. Coleman’s conservative tactics killed our chance. We should have directly qualified. Without Bale there was no chance to qualify even if he made it to the playoffs. I would rather like Bale Rambo Allen and co going to 2018 WC at their peak than 2022… we could have done sth great

Just missed opportunities and bad luck In control versus Serbia - 1-0 close to the end and with hit the post and they go up the other end and score Georgia 1-0 up at home again and then play one of our most awful matches of the last decade to scape a draw Very costly and such a shame as we should have been capable of winning that group, albeit Bale's absence at the end hurt as well of course. That tournament was also the turning point when Bale's fitness took a turn for the worst - seemed like he was never fully fit again

The problem is we see dozens of better inexpensive managers outcoaching the opposition against Page. The other problem is players and managers are overpaid in England and so the economics comes in to it but we can surely do better than tolerate a failed Port Vale manager who has had a massive opportunity to improve but continues to make school boy areas at crucial times
Unfortunately our culture perhaps is not capable of incorporating a low profile manager from another country
Watch Poland be brushed aside at the Euros. They really are a pretty average team that presented us with a great opportunity. I have no idea who their coach is but he set them up well defensively and he emptied the bench unlike Page.

For reference, the average salary of Championship Manager is around £850k. So we are looking at middling League 2 level. A sort of achieved nothing special at Port Vale / Northampton level.....
