This tournament is showing just how shit Qatar was for fans. Summer football in a proper football nation with tax free beer. As it should be.

This tournament is showing just how shit Qatar was for fans. Summer football in a proper football nation with tax free beer. As it should be. Whatever. Qatar was warm - anybody who went to the Iran game knows that - and there was beer there and the food was cheaper than in Cardiff. Amazing time. Glad I went. Met / saw so many people and didn’t have to move around. One massive plus that was.

I was there as well stroppy. It was shit compared to most football tournaments. The beer was over priced and unavailable almost everywhere. The grounds were isolated and took an age to walk to/around before and after the game killing any chance to build an atmosphere, then you were hit by cheesy music and pre match entertainment that would make the yanks blush.
Give me what the fans are experiencing in Germany over that crap any day

England fans waiting for trams 3 hours after the game Sunday. The rain drenching all 4 corners of Dortmund yesterday.

Not going to lie, there's shades of France 2016 about Germany 2024 - maybe even better hearing the atmosphere's through the TV. I think we'd embarrass ourselves out there, but it's proper gutting not be a part of this. Doesn't get better than a single nation tournament at a proper footballing country.
In saying that, I do have a few friends who thought Qatar was great.

I went to eight games in Qatar so made of the most of my time but not going to pretend it was anything other than sanitised drivel compared to France. Agree Germany could have surpassed that, it looks fantastic

There was pure joy on the field in France.

I’m on about the fan experience more than what happened on the pitch. Even if we had got to the semis in Qatar it would not have compared to the overall experience in France or Germany. If you think otherwise fair enough

If you think otherwise fair enough Yeah I do. Look how many flights from Argentina via Rome were pouring into Qatar! Argies loved it! Anyway as a bar owner of 18 years I don’t get a kick out of the alcohol aspect as others might. I preferred Rugby World Cup in Japan to both France and Qatar and I’m a much bigger football fan. Japan blew me away!

Is it just me or there's a lot more fouling going on in this tournament? So many unnecessary shoves and barges resulting in freekicks, lots of players falling over far too easily.

If you think otherwise fair enough Nothing is going to beat the overall experience of France for Wales fans, but Qatar had its moment. I will forever remember the airport. A plane lands full of Wales fans, next minute a plane from Ecuador, followed by one from Australia, followed one by..... Then there was the Souk, football fans from across the world all mixing together. Never going to have an experience like that again. I have a strange mix between rage and jealosy watching the Euro's at the moment. The atmosphere and experience out there looks absolutely awesome.

I can understand how Qatar being held over such a small area with waves of football supporters, in such a different culture, and being unique in being a winter tournament made it a special atmosphere for those who went.
But I didn't want to go and I did want to go to Germany.
Germany is more like France in single, football mad country with plenty to do other than football on down days and no worries for LGBTQ+ supporters or migrants workers. Oh, and I can't see the winning captain being forced to wear lederhosen as they pick up the trophy this time...

I just had a great time in Qatar. Think we’ll leave it at that. Whatever floats our boats I suppose.

James Mcfadden comes out with some cringeworthy stuff. I know he's going to be biased, but it's painful listening to him.

Will be really interesting to see what condition Morata is in later today.
Not sure Spain have another striker of note and while they are a team who has found success previously without a center-forward, I am not sure this edition is set up to win without one. At least not in regulation time.
