Definitely doing 2 nights in budva, there is alot more to do there, there are loads of bars that do beers for €3 and restaurants that do food for reasonable prices. Podgorica is only so big so doing 3 nights there would get boring plus budva is next to the sea 😁👍🌞 OK, I’m going to change my mix back to more nights in Budva and less in Podgoricia. Booking.com are going to get the total hump with me :-)

Only just realized that UEFA have officially updated their page and have the venue as "Stadion Podgorica" . No idea if this is the biggest one in the country, but Wiki says it's 11k capacity. That probably means 600-700 away tickets?

They don’t tend to sell out and certainly won’t for our visit. I reckon we’ll get a similar allocation to Latvia

They had 2900 for the recent friendly v Gwprgia at the stadium, which they lost. fscg.me/vijesti/12256/gruzija-slavila-pod-goricom/Ticket prices were only 3 to 8 euros, there didn't seem to be an online sale, it was in person purchase only. I have seen them ask for Montenegrin ID for some.games. They rarely get near capacity unless it's qualifier against a big team or Serbia. They play away to Iceland on the Friday before us. Unless they win that easily, I would think there will be 000s of unsold tickets for our game.

Tickets for football matches played in Montenegro usually start selling a day before and on the day of the match until the beginning of the match or until all the tickets are sold out. Tickets are sold the day before the match at the counters of Sports Complex Morača (Sportski centar Morača) usually from 10:00 until 16:00 hours. Please, have in mind that this Sports Complex is not the place where the stadium is! The stadium called Podgorica City Stadium or locally "Stadion pod Goricom" is on the eastern bank of Morača river, while the Sports Complex is on its western side. So, if you do not buy the tickets a day before the match on the counters of the Sports Complex Morača, you can also buy them right at the stadium itself. The counter at the stadium usually opens next to western terrace. www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g635648-i11070-k13969288-Help_with_Football_tickets_required-Montenegro.html

I hope our ticket department have already let them know that we're likely to sell well beyond a small allocation and unless they anticipate selling out it would be great for all if we could have a significant allocation from the start. The ends of the ground appear to hold 2700. That would be more than ample.

Booking.com are going to get the total hump with me :-) They stopped me from booking another recently because I chop and change that much 😅 When I changed my Budva stay, I booked what looked a cracking deal in the old town. Something was still bugging me about the hotel photos on Booking.com, as the deal seemed too good. I did a photo search on Google. The photos were actually of a hotel in Bar, which had all the exact same photos on its own B.com listing. Cancelled and reported, B.com are now showing the dodgy one as booked out for all dates, soon to disappear I hope. Budva, Hotel Amon doesn't exist, just in case anyone else has booked it.

Just a slight heads up on the Budva / Kotor debate. We have just returned from Montenegro and we stayed slap bang in the middle of the two at Tivat which has it's own airport with direct flights there from the UK. Budva / Kotor easily reachable by bus / taxi / bike hire.
We went to both Budva and Kotor and both were just a mass of tourists posing for pictures.
The problem with flying into Dubrovnik is the border crossing can take hours which unless you have agreed a taxi price, the clock ticks on.
Tivat is relatively quite but the new Porto Montenegro is trying to be the new Marbella and a lot of new development going on.
Bars are not as plentiful and certainly not as cheap as in Podgorica. Cheapest is Kvartic which is a local bar in the middle of a housing scheme (we were the only non locals who went there) one of the best is La Strada.
Something to think about. We rented an apartment off booking.com.

Podgorica is probably the most boring capital city I have ever been to!

One other point about Montenegro is check your phone contract prior to going.
Ours (Talk Mobile) has an extensive list of countries in Europe which are covered in our bundle and just a few that aren't, one of the ones that are not covered is Montenegro!
Most of the taxi companies have a Viber number (their version of WhatsApp).

For anyone that has e-Sim as an option on their phone, certainly worth having a look on this website and taking up a data plan. Some of the European packages include (as well as Monenegro) Croatia/Albania etc. Reckon on about €5 for 3gb or so - which is MUCH cheaper than £5/per day on most UK plans
If your phone has no eSim option (and you intend to stick with the same phone for a little while!) you may want to have a look at www.mobupgrade.com

After years of a dual SIM tray my latest phone has reverted to single. My presumption is that as they have dramatically upped the internal storage they see no need for a place for a memory card anymore, but also nowhere for a supplementary SIM.

For those looking for a new phone, note that the e-Sim thing (in almost all phones - with the only exception I can find being iPhone 13 and later) WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO USE ONE ESIM AT A TIME. So, please be aware, that if your local UK provider offers you to switch to e-Sim, you may prefer to decline... You can have multiple eSims stored on your phone - but can only (usually) use one eSim at a time. Also, Samsung, even if you have an option for 2 physical sims AND esim - you can only use two of those at a time (2 physical sims or 1 physical and 1 esim) ... I found this annoying ;-(

From my one day trip to Budva I would recommend The Old Town Pub (obviously in the old town) beer was reasonably priced as long as you drink the local stuff and don't drink the Guinness (9 euros!) South African girl behind the bar speaks perfect English (which she would) There is also an "English Pub" in the old town but for obvious reasons I gave it a miss! And just a couple of streets back from the front, Restaurant Adriatic for a good value scran. There are some fancy bars in front of the shopping centre which charge fancy prices. Didn't try a beer in the beech area as they are usually extortionate and mobbed. I am sure you will enjoy it and get to see a lot more of it than I did. The old town is well worth a look around for it's history, architecture but unfortunately it is predominantly shops selling tourist tat.

3 nights in Podgorica for us. Had a day here a few years ago, quite a big place, about 170,000 population, so somewhere between Newport and Swansea in terms of population. Plenty to do, loads of bars and restaurants. Plenty to do in terms of sightseeing. The people seemed nice, down to earth. We also stayed 2 nights in Budva, not for me. Very touristy, we spent a lot of time looking for seats at restaurants and bars. Nice beaches though. Twice the price of Podgorica.

Much appreciated - I imagine that Podgoricqa must be a smaller version of Bratislava - not to everyone's taste - but personally, one of my favourite cities in Europe!

Sincere apologies for knowing nothing at all about Montenegro ;-( As for Dubrovnik - its a ridiculous excuse of a tourist trap. I spent 4 nights there last year - and really, 4 hours would have been plenty! SPLIT, on the other hand - rocks!

We have decided to get the ferry from dubrovnik to budva instead of the taxi, 2hrs in dubrovnik port for a few beers and scran, then a nice 2 hr ferry to budva, overlooking the crostian/montenegran coast and the adriatic, I think that's a tad better journey than a 2 hr rough journey in a taxi, plus it's only £11 more 😁👌
