I'm more confident. His experience with Palace and now Como should carry a lot of weight.

The Como website sets out a pretty clear future for him. If that’s what he wants. Sounds good to me. Exactly what we need right now. Como 1907 is delighted to announce that former Technical Director of the Morocco FRMF and FA Wales, Osian Roberts, has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the 23/24 season. Roberts, whose previous coaching roles have included Crystal Palace in the Premier League and the Welsh National side, will take charge of the first team in January supported by Cesc Fàbregas and the current coaching squad. Roberts will additionally be Head of Development for Como 1907, tasked with creating a Como Culture within the organisation including coach education and player development plans, he will focus on this role full time after the end of the season. comofootball.com/en/como-1907-appoints-osian-roberts-as-caretaker-manager/Ok, but how much of that is the official line and how much of it is how the club were managed last season in reality. We know that Fabregas was the Head Coach, but then Osian was brought in as the Manager while Fabregas completed his badges, and that next season Osian is going to be the Head of Development with Fabregas going back to the Head Coach position. That’s always been the plan. If Osian was brought in as the outright Manager, why did they plan for him to move into a more technical role the following season, with Fabregas going back to the position he previously held? It sounds like a pretty good development plan to me. One that would get me very interested if I was given control of strategy for a progressive club. I’d need a free rein and a long term contract to change that for anything the FAW offered. Part time with Osian maybe better than the full time fiasco we’ve seen.

Given his recent success with Como why look beyond Osian? His credentials have never been stronger. I may be biased given I'm from Ynys Mon, but I'm always baffled when people bang on about Craig Bellamy being given the job. Approaching Osian is the biggest no-brainer ever. The current crop of go-to Welsh pundits are so clouded by being having played with or being mates with Rob Page that you can't take them seriously on this topic. Gwennan Harries being the notable exception.

I'd love to get Osian Roberts in, but I think the ship has sailed, at least in the short term. Why would he leave Como? Newly promoted to Serie A, director of football role overseeing an exciting project, and living in one of the most beautiful places in the world. He's probably on a decent wage as well, probably more than we'd pay.
The time to bring Osian in was 6 years ago. There were plenty of opportunities to give him the job over the following years, yet we persisted with Page. Now it's too late, and the FAW have no one to blame but themselves.

That possibly would not have happened with Osian - well there's no way to say for sure but seems mad to say we should have taken a game on Osian after back to back tournaments with giggs and page. we'd all probably be calling for his head now. I agree now is the time for Osian but will he take it, if not, why not? He's the man they need and if they want him they should make sure they get him at whatever cost. He relatively unknown outside of us, unlike names like cooper.

Steve Cooper is clearly waiting for a mid/lower table PL job. I don't think he's ever viewed himself as being manager of Wales and has never said/done anything to suggest he'd ever fancy the job.
It's a given that he has more connections within the English than Welsh FA.

Looks at the way other countries deal with weaker teams
Northern Ireland are awful but their star player Bradley gets them 2 early goals against Andorra
Israel beat Belarus 4-0 away
Cyprus smash San Marino 4-1 away
Ukraine dispatch Moldova 4-1 away
The sad reality with Page is he has no idea how to take apart a weak, limited team. our players are not world beaters but the likes of James, Moore, Brennan, Wilson, Neco, Brooks, etc would be more effective in attack under a different manager surely? Even when we had Bale and/or Ramsey as well we would struggle for much of the time.
and when we were set up to attack, he someone managed to leave our midfield totally open as per the Armenia debacle
Surely that is down to a lack of game/tactical understanding?

Well I mean that's all a bit pointless isn't it because you're just cherry picking. You could equally talk about England and Scotland's results for example to make the opposite point. Half of those players you mentioned weren't playing, and when they did back in March we beat Finland 4-1 - a team that Euros-bound, full-strength Scotland only managed a 2-2 draw against.

I think the next two years are very important for us to hopefully set up an exciting Euros 2028 campaign.
There are obviously reasons why it might not be Page but he does know this group of players and has a staff group who have a plan, presuming it would be too bold to throw around word "transition" without having an idea of where you want to take us.
We are clearly in a transition period but we have players and fans who want a good crack at success in addition to this.

Yes Bale and Ramsey were off the scale, but you play to suit the players available. I’m watching the game again. Having got home, we made Slovakia look like peak Barcelona with their passing. Some of our play was just embarrassing, We were lucky to get away at 4-0. It was like watching Everton in their worst period, pass backwards, pedestrian, no invention, leak a goal, hoof it up, oops leak another. After match interview, cue Page monologue, I’m not making excuses,eh?. Ancelotti came in and changed that bunch of complete Everton losers into top 10 challengers. Dyche changed it again, but made them defensively superb. I’m not suggesting we get Ancelotti, or Dyche, but a manager with vision can make a bunch of random players into a far more competitive team. It doesn’t have to be a name either. Who had heard of Osian before 2016? Find the next Osian, if he doesn’t want it. Page is clearly not the answer, if we can’t find the money to sack Page and appoint a big name replacement, go the Brighton way and identify a young up and coming manager with a vision. Page is deffo not the answer. I’d bet Danny Ward wouldn’t be playing under any new manager. Then we can all back the new manager and go on a journey - together stronger, allegedly ! Like Malcolm said, mae’r ysbryd ar goll.

All Ancelotti and Dyche would do in a week with so many new combinations would be to give simple plan and belief. Not sure Page did that, hence plenty of reasons for him to go, but I disagree somewhat that Page hasn't previously set out plan for us to be competitive.
Ward is probably our starting keeper for next 12-18 months unless Adam Davies does well at his next club and over next 24-36 months Kieffer Moore's role changes in one way or another.
Giggs showed us what his plan was pre-Kieffer Moore and I think Page has made us more of an attacking threat in the few games without Moore than Giggs managed.
He doesn't speak well and trying a new formation and so many new players in latest friendlies was a bit of a baffling decision.
Next 2 years are critical and decision should be made with clear heads to get most out of this period of time.

I don't have the answer but now is the time. A new coaching staff with a Nations League and World Cup qualifying campaign to bed in and make sure we qualify for Euro 2028, which would be a disaster if we miss out on.
I think back to last autumn when Osian was in the S4C studio and he as good as said without actually saying it, that he would take the job if it was offered to him then. Feel like we've just missed out on this now by a few months.

Have a feeling that the FAW are just going to wait for the noise to blow over, and keep Page in the job until at least the Nations League campaign to see how it goes.
Also think there's a high probability he won't be dismissed as at all given the financial implications. Have the FAW got £600k or thereabouts to pay him out? Unlikely.
The 4 year contract has to be one of the most bizarre decisions I've seen in the footballing world, especially when you see managers get sacked on a regular basis. Isn't Phil Parkinson on a rolling contract at Wrexham? Maybe the 4 year contract was conjured up as part of this 'long term plan' that Page seems to go on about, and that it's part of some process regardless of the results. God knows.

I wasn't for going in for him until he had, as all his previous roles have been more technical Now that he's had this experience though I believe he would now be the top candidate for the job after Page I also think Bellamy would do a good job with this squad. He plays a progressive modern style at Burnley, and I think he would give this group a kick up the backside, making us more front foot & aggressive. However, given Osian's recent success as a 1st team manager that puts him ahead now in my opinion

Now that Fabregas will take over first team duties Osian will be taken off the grass, and I have a feeling he wants to be a first team manager, again based on previous comments he's made I think he'd jump at the chance to manage Wales, and his continued appearances on S4C show that he wants to keep his name in that conversation in my opinion

I think we are witnessing the beginning of the end rather than the end of Page.
There are excuses or reasons depending on your viewpoint for some of his record. The FAW may look at these. Page can use these.
The bad run leading up to the World Cup and during Nations League A could be put down to Page playing a weakened team to prioritise the Austria and Ukraine matches. In League A we came close to some good results like losing twice to Netherlands. It could be argued it worked we won the two key matches.
We have turned in some very good performances.
The squad in these friendlies was missing key players. What it did tell us was we have very little depth.
For these reasons I can see the FAW seeing how the nations leagues matches go unfortunately before acting.
Of course there is the other side with some woeful performances, especially away. And it feels very much if we are on a steep downward trajectory.
I think we should dispatch Page now. For me there are two types of coaches in football. Those that during the match can see issues and opportunities and make sometimes subtle or not so subtle changes to affect the match. These coaches also typically give insightful interviews at the end of matches. The other type just expect more effort during the match - this is Page. They do little coaching from the touch line or during breaks in play - this is Page. In Pages case I’ve noticed he often just points towards the oppositions goal - the players know where the goal is! This type of manager also talk in generalities in interviews about effort, transition, disappointment etc - this is Page.
I want the first type of manager. Osian would I think be ideal but I think the boat has sailed unfortunately.
Fingers crossed FAW will act.

I wouldn't say the 4-year contract was a bizarre decision. Club and international football are completely different, with the latter working in two-year cycles - so a 4 year contract would be broadly equivalent to a club manager getting a 2-year contract. Pretty sure that was Giggs' length of contract too, although with a break clause if they failed to qualify in the first two years if I remember correctly - happy to be corrected on that. So yeah, they went out just a little bit further for Page after he qualified for the WC. With hindsight, that was the wrong decision. Page was still caretaker boss leading up to the WC (despite having taken us through the whole campaign), so I think all reasonable people would agree that a contract was the right decision at the time. They should have offered a similar contract to what Giggs got, I'm pretty sure Page and his team wouldn't have rejected that. Equally, I think Page was being paid an assistant manager's salary for doing the main man's job when Giggs was on gardening leave, so they may have felt compelled to go a little further once that situation was resolved.

A rolling 12 month contract really isn't the norm, in the UK at least. I expect most international managers will be on a 2-4 year basis of this being a full international cycle. It was probably partly a reward for him doing a good job while on a relatively small wage and dealing with a difficult situation.

Think we'll likely see him in the dugout come September. Not holding my breath but hopefully there's lessons learnt from these games.
Trouble is I've said the same thing after a few games now and doesn't appear we have any semblance of things changing.

I think your assessment that basically there are only good managers and bad managers a little bit basic. What of the recent BBC sport article on Ancelotti which described that it was his son, Davide, who called for Joselu to come off the bench when Carlo was looking frustrated with their side losing? What of Jose Mourinho who is one manager in first 18 months and another completely in next 12 months? Page does things well. It may be that that his list is not long enough and someone else is better placed to take us into next 2-4 year period.

Ultimately Page has been exposed far too many times for us to grow and succeed through another cycle.
Do the players even respect him?
When pundits are calling out the likes of Brennan Johnson for getting away with murder which he wouldn’t ever get away at Spurs then they are basically saying the players don’t respect page enough to put in the extra hard yards/ run through brick walls etc. They are coasting through games and Pages body language doesn’t help him either.
I think the FAW will be liable if they allow things to carry on regardless.

As disappointing as the Nations League / results were, just being a part of League A and the World Cup is a big achievement so I don't think on their own those two outcomes spelled trouble really. We started the qualification group well with 4 points, and went 1-0 up against Armenia. If we see that game out we qualify, simple as! That was the beginning of the end for me

I’ve seen lots of people commenting on here that Johnson seems to be a completely different player with us, but that’s just not the case. Having watched a few of his Spurs appearances and sought out fans’ reactions after he’s played, I can tell you that they have the exact same frustrations and he often comes across as being lazy / lacking in end product with them too

4 wins from last 24 says it all really 6 in 24 actually. 7 in 26 since the beginning of 2022. 16 of those against teams in the top 30 FIFA rankings. We wont have played that concentration of higher level opposition in our history. Under Coleman we played 17 games against teams in the top 30 in his entire 6 years in charge.
