I'm sure a lot of people will be disappointed / angry that Osian isn't more of a frontrunner. All I will say is that those within the FAW (David Adams principally) will know much more about how Osian operates and what he was actually responsible for as part of the set-up last time, than we do on the outside - so you'd like to think they're much better placed to know whether he would be effective as the main man, and they don't appear to be convinced. I just hope that they've looked extensively throughout the international management arena for potential candidates, rather than just going with the easy options and sticking to the usual suspects.

x.com/PaulAbbandonato/status/1807665509497704614I too believe that 4 years is a mistake. This needs to be a short term appointment for long term reasons. The criticality to Welsh Football - and on Welsh culture on the international stage - of getting to North America cannot be overstated. It has to happen.

I think 4 sort of makes sense. They won't be sacked for us not getting to the World Cup, so really we're talking about a 4 year cycle leading up to 2028 and performing well at a home tournament

We have got to get to North America. No ifs or buts.

Can somebody enloghten me what Henry has achieved as a coach / managet? Hes only been a coach/manager for a short period and when have we ever had a manager who has been successful as a manager before he came to us? The only one i can think of is Tosh. Beggars cannot be choosers, we don't pay well so I'd be happy with either Henry, Bellamy and definitely Osian.

Sometimes you fail to qualify for things but you see there's a plan and heading towards something. The board can assess it after each campaign.

Giggs received a 4 year contract, but crucially there was a break clause (performance-related I believe) after the first two. So a 4 year contract isn’t anything to be worried, it’s all about whether it contains a break clause half way through

An underperformance in Euros qualification would have shown he was very unlikely to get us to a WC which means the number of years makes sense

I'd like us to be competitive for the WC but won't expect qualification, and expect us to be strong for Euro 2028

We'll likely be in pot 2 for the qualifiers, if we get a weaker 1st and 3rd seed expectations will be higher than if we had, say, Germany & Norway

I think it's normal to have contracts of four years to recognise this is a full cycle and, increasingly normal, to have break contracts halfway through.
But I see some logic in saying this should be a two year cycle. Not so much because we need to get to next World Cup but rather we need to perform well in the home Euros and need best person for the job at that point.
This is short term appointment with views to longer term success in my opinion rather than needing to hit it out the park when on the back foot of ending a manager's time here early.

13 Uefa teams qualified for last World Cup with us being unlucky 13, both in FIFA rankings during that period of time and being last to qualify.
16 Uefa teams will qualify for the next World Cup. I don't think we start process as a top 16 side but we can definitely hit that point at the right time.

WC qualy details:
"First round (group stage): Twelve groups of either four or five teams with group winners qualifying for the World Cup finals.
Play-off stage: 16 teams (twelve group runners-up and four best Nations League group winners, based on the Nations League overall ranking, that finished outside the top two of their qualifying group) will be drawn into four play-off paths, playing two rounds of single-match play-offs (semi-finals with the seeded teams to host, followed by finals, with the home teams to be drawn). The four path winners will qualify for the World Cup finals."
We have a great chance of at least making a play-off, provided we find the right manager/management team.

Well judging by the fact that we didn't qualify, and that the teams I thought we were stronger than looked really effective and organised at this tournament, I'd say we're currently outside the top 24 The best 16 in Europe at the moment are probably something like: Germany Switzerland Spain Italy England Denmark Austria France Netherlands Belgium Portugal Turkey Croatia Romania Norway Georgia Maybe a few of the teams at the tournament would feel hard done by me putting Norway above them but I think they've got class players to justify it. I think we're in a pack with the likes of Slovakia, Serbia, Scotland, Hungary, Czechia, Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, Albania, Sweden & Ireland that are pushing to try and get into that top 16 but it's tough to say we look like doing it just yet

Even if we're playing well, it's sort of a 50/50 shot whether we can get to the world cup or not. We'll almost always be relying on qualifying via the playoffs and then your quality of opposition and home seeding is out of your hands.

I don’t think they have many names lined up because the reported salary of 350k won’t attract that many managers. We were lucky to get Gary as he always viewed the job as a stepping stone to the premier league , Cookie was sacked by his club and needed the job, Giggs again wanted to use it as a stepping stone, so all were happy to take the low wage…. But we won’t attract anyone for £350k, especially not Henry! www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13571093/amp/Every-manager-salary-Euro-2024-Gareth-Southgate.html

I was just hoping somebody could point out something more encouraging in Henry’s managerial career. He’s been in coaching / managerial roles for some 9 years. He rarely seems to see out a contract. His time at Monaco didnt work out at all. Looking for positives he got Montreal to playoffs (before then leaving) and some strikers have complimented him on his coaching (which given his playing background you’d hope so). I understand we are not going to get a top tried and tested manager. But is it too much to ask for somebody up and coming?

Here's a recent Bellamy interview with Gary Neville (starts at around 4:30), seems like he has matured a bit and takes a lot of responsibility for his past behaviour. He sees a psychologist weekly as well and this has helped him understand why he reacts to things a bit more Think it's reasonable to suggest that maybe he has moved past that hot head phase that many remember him for www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXoqgry7YVE&ab_channel=TheOverlap

Better financial security on offer at Burnley the apparent reason. But its not so much about that or indeed the prospects on offer at Como. Its the realisation that the Welsh job is a hiding to nothing given the current strength of the players available. Worst I've known.

His Everton side was probably the peak of Everton. That could be a pro or con. His Belgium side lost in the World Cup to France (winners) and in Euros to Italy (winners) while being number one in the world for about three years. He's barely been in Portugal. Replacements lost a game, first team struggling on a dodgy pitch and having missed a penalty. Not sure I agree with your summation, but this is a big moment for him.
