Not that straightforward. Turkey’s constitution is founded on the basis of secularism. The complete separation of state and religion, along with the freedom of religion Turkey’s president Erdogan heads the ruling AKP party. Conservative (and authoritarian) in nature, it has been accused of implementing laws and policies which breach the concept of secular government, favouring an Islamist doctrine. This has regional consequences, such as in Kayseri, where there is a majority muslim population and the AKP party have local control = no beer for Welshies :-) Yes, that's why I prefixed my answer with "In short" - the reason for the alcohol ban is religious. I could/should have said it's a country which has a lot of Muslims, but somebody had already posted an article explaining it so I thought I'd keep to the point. Thanks for expanding though 👍🏻 Edit: just realised it was yourself who made the original post with the link to the article explaining it 👍🏻 No probs, probably comes from having nothing to do, due to being confined to the bedroom with Covid for the past few days.

Not being constrained by work commitments, we’ve got ourselves a 12 night package to Antalya old town for £230 each, flights included. Cheap return flight from Antalya and overnight stay in Khazeri booked separately. Then escape back to the sunshine, beach and many bars, next day. I think we can survive that. Looked at every permutation of directly booking flights and accommodation separately, couldn’t get anywhere close to the package price.

Antalya is a great place although the weather in November won’t be boiling hot hopefully still get a few sunny days. Not been before, but 21C on average apparently. Potentially hotter than it is here right now in high summer, with the sea temperature still warmer than north Wales in mid August. Had a look at the nightlife, compared to Kayceri, it’s going to be viva Las Vegas. The airport is close to Kaleici, the old city, where we’re staying. It’s also dead easy to get to by tram on match day, which was another plus. Only a 1hr 15 mins flight is a bonus. A strict diet of kebabs and Efes lager should keep it cheap too.

For those that still have not booked their internal flights - please be sure to take the first available flight of the day, as Pegassus, Sunexpress, and even Turkish Airlines are not restricted at all by local regulations and they can AND OFTEN DO change flight schedules on the day by up to EIGHT HOURS - and that is perfectly ok. We got two small bottles of water as compensation on two occasions last yeat ;-(

Giving this one a miss in light of the location and will do Montenegro and Iceland instead. I was unlikely to do all three in such a close time period anyway.

For those thinking of a day or two in Capadoccia before or after the game, then Nevşehir airport could also be an option to / from Istanbul (both airports). It's about an hour's bus from Kayseri but nearer to towns such as Göreme and Urgup.

Just a heads up about Turkish hotel shenanigans! True to their form last year, again they are charging me 5 months in advance for "pay at hotel" (on 3 locations) AND telling me that their price has changed and that I need to re-book on another. This is one country where I have learned to keep 2 back-up reservation for each location - with at least one of them being "pay at hotel"

FLIGHT BOOKING WEB SITE
For those of you that still have not booked the flights for this / or the internal flight to Keyseri, two pointers.
1/. The internal flight prices have REDUCED back to their much more realistic prices ... £25-£45 one-way.
2/. If you download the TRIP.COM APP and book your flight through them, they allow you £10 OFF per person / per flight (maximum x3).
Personally, I have very litle faith in the Turkish internal carriers, due to their crazy cancellation policy (up to eight hours without compensation) ... so I am double-booked on my way bacl!

Pegasus have already changed my flight which means the connection no longer works. Consider yourself lucky, as Pegasus changed my flights twice last year - once 3 days ahead and once on the morning of my flight - both times by seven hours... Seems to be common practice! All I got at the airport during my seven hours was a 200ml bottle of water...
Must admit the Turkish Airlines Customer Service - for me - was exactly the opposite. Really helpful and super fexible in changing not only my flight, but actually re-routing me to Samsun, for a mere 500 TL

Yes I had the same experience returning from Samsung. Couple of days before. My original flight was early afternoon and they said I’d been changed to late night. But when I looked at their schedule they had a mid afternoon flight. So I changed to that after claiming a refund. The consolation was it was easy and prompt to get the money back. Any experience of Ajet anybody?

I've only had good experiences with Pegasus, but have heard horror stories about them.

Any experience of Ajet anybody? Andypandy jet are probably the worst low cost airline I've flown ever. That's saying something when your comparing them with the likes of Wizzair. All 3 of my Samsun flights were late, one cost me a connection and their staff couldn't give a shit. Wouldn't let me to the front of the plane to maximise my chances of getting the connection - there was room, I should of just done it. To be honest Wizzair take some beating, just decided not to bother with the flight back from Pod leaving us stranded for an additional day and forking out £ 500 for replacement flights. Yesterday they had the f...ing nerve to ask me to rate the cancellation experience. Back to Kayseri. Has anybody found a day trip for the Friday from the hotel to Cappadocia. Only looking tentatively at the moment as I'll have to run it past the son who doesn't do trips.

Been to Turkey twice with Pegasus, both times flights were altered countless times. Great once on board but a constant worry if you have onward flights.
