Surprised by the Broadhead inclusion given he's not even made the bench for Ipswich since his recovery. Nathan is fully fit i have been told

I'd consider Neco as centre mid, very mobile , can go up and down , nothing to lose....except the game of course 😂👍!! “Nothing to lose” indeed!

Was told DaSilva was in the original September squad, as Beck was in the U21s, read into it what you like Beck promoted and Dasilva now down the pecking order it seems? September 2024 Timeline Clubs/players told of the original squad (well before the squad comes out) Owen was in the U21 squad he was called up during the weekend before, so promoted from the u21 squad as replacement for JD

I assumed he was still recovering. Says here he only returned to training in the last few weeks, surely a risk selecting him and Brooks - www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/47991/mckenna-phillips-back-in-training

Tom Lawrence is the one glaring omission. What's the betting he'll play a blinder for Rangers against Lyon (Europa League) at Ibrox tomorrow night? No way can Broadhead and Brooks be 100% fit for international football, and not having featured for their clubs recently.

Was expecting to see Lawrence involved too. Suspected it may have been Lawrence deciding not to take part (that's what happened last time apparently), but Bellamy was asked about this and just said he decided to pick others. Maybe he's not being entirely truthful in order to protect him in case he doesn't want to get back involved with the international setup, or maybe Bellamy just doesn't rate him that highly.

Yeah, the Lawrence situation is a little shrouded in mystery, I agree! ... On another aspect altogether, re: Sheff Utd -v- Swansea tonight, there could conceivably be an involvement on the parets of 7 (seven!) of our squad members. Hope none of them get injured!

There's no world where Tom Lawrence is in this squad over David Brooks In normal circumnstances no, but Brooks has barely played any football for months and months. He's still in the Bournemouth match day squad so I doubt he's in bad enough condition to warrant picking a far inferior player ahead of him

He massively benefits from "hasn't been called up in yonks" syndrome which causes people to over-rate his ability He has 9 goals & 6 assists in 51 games for Rangers. 10 games and 3 goals this season. He has roughly the same goal contribution ratio as Matondo (also omitted). Rangers are not playing against top quality week in week out. In no world is it a glaring omission. He's not as good as the other forwards we've picked, it's really that simple

It's not mysterious at all. Listening to Bellamy in the press conference it was clear Bellamy simply rates the players he picked as better than him. He obviously can't say it that plainly - but in a politically correct way this is what he said Bellamy also said if there are injuries things can change and he may get called in - I imagine he's still behind the likes of Colwill & Matondo anyway but yeah, not really mysterious. The players we already have are better

Well worth a listen to Bellamy's presser: faw.cymru/redwallplus/videos/live-october-camp-squad-announcement-press-conference-11am-2-10/Interesting comments about Allen and especially Ollie Cooper. He clearly sees that he could play as a 6 or an 8, even though he has only really played as a 10 or out wide for Swansea. I can see that he has the skillset to play in front of the defence, given that his defensive numbers are strong, is a good passer, and can carry the ball well.

Don't necessarily agree, but there we go... Anyway, my worries are now directed towards there not being any injuries picked up at Bramall Lane this evening!

My "don't necessarily agree" comment was in the context of Tom Lawrence. Let's see how he gets on (if selected for Rangers) against decent quality European opposition tomorrow.

He may put in a good performance although this would be a one off really. Do you think if picked he'd get on the pitch at all ahead of Brennan, Sorba, Brooks, Broadhead, Koumas or Burns?

Potentially as a twin 10 on the strength of his good defensive stats. You would think Bellamy would appreciate his profile. It's probably a close run thing. Any injuries to our attacking players and I think he will be the first to be called up.

Think Bellamy said he can play in a 'dual 6' system, as opposed to sitting ahead of the defence on his own like Ampadu does. But referencing the loss of Ampadu, Bellamy did suggest that we might change shape slightly - so maybe that will be with Cooper and James playing alongside each other and using the two of them to play out (as opposed to just Ampadu). Obviously means we lose out on a player further forward

Assessing the Iceland squad, their players in Europe's top 5 leagues:
Valdimarsson (GK) - 22 year old currently back up keeper at Brentford
Ellertson (MID) - 22 year old plays for Venezia, 15 caps
Oskarsson (FW) - 20 year old forward who plays for Real Sociedad. 10 caps, 3 goals
Haraldsson (MID) - 21 year old plays for Lille
Gudmunsson (FW) - as far as I can tell he's their only experienced player (27) that currently plays in a European top flight. Currently playing for Fiorentina
On the whole most of their players who are at good clubs are youngsters under the age of 22 who aren't really established yet. Talented perhaps, but not bonafide pros like when Iceland were at their height half a decade ago
Interestingly Gylfi Sigurdsson is still in their squad, their top scorer, but now plays for an Icelandic club as he has been seemingly ostracised for previous offenses

Be interesting to see how Gudmundsson gets on tomorrow night then! 😂 Scored two against Lazio the other day so clearly a decent player there.

He's yet to play in a double pivot for Swansea or Cymru, so that would be a bold step for Bellamy.

what are your feelings on the squad?
the midfield looks short to me- putting Brooks/Broadhead/Sorba[they are more attacking players] there is masking the shortage of genuine CM options would like to have seen another option and not picked Cullen
great to see RND back and Joe Allen
this is also a 25 man squad this time around, it was 23 before so has there been any indication Beck may be released to play for U21 and when is the U21 squad named
cheers

Hope to god Joel Colwill and Eli King come good! We need the depth. It'd be great to be in a situation where there is a selection headache for each position and lads are missing out are playing at a good level

No recall for Matt Smith then despite the lack of midfield options. I havent seen anything of him for sometime to know what form he is in but we are lacking cover there for sure thought savage would be in[but again it might be the U21 issue] as regards picking the full squad can players be released to play for U21s[missing Iceland game] but return to full squad for Montenegro or is it one squad or the other?
