It did look weird at first glance but I've just had a look at FIFA's site and it does make sense. In Nov 2009 Scotland were 46th, Wales were 79th, that 3-0 now counts for 20%...we beat a nation 43 places higher than us. Next month we'll be 44th, Finland (hadn't noticed this until now) are currently 63rd...they're 19 places below us! However...from what I've read up on the pot system for 2016, they're calculated from 3 cycles: Cycle 1: Qualification of FIFA World Cup 2010 + FIFA World Cup 2010. Cycle 2: Qualification of UEFA Euro 2012 + UEFA Euro 2012. Cycle 3: Qualification of FIFA World Cup 2014 (inc. playoffs) Apparently the only teams left that can influence their seedings for the 2016 draw are those in the playoffs, and seeing as only Iceland are below us (Belarus would drop to Pot 5 if they do well), the rest of us are locked in place. It would seem therefore that we're officially in Pot 4 and the Finland game is irrelevant (general FIFA rankings apart). www.footballseeding.com/national-ranking-uefa/ranking-2013/

So that Belgium draw may have got us in pot 4 depedning on friendly results for the teams around us in November.

I don't think friendlies will influence the seedings for the Euros. I believe that UEFA use a coefficient system for the Euros based on results in competitive fixtures only over three qualification periods/tournaments. For the World Cup FIFA use rankings which include friendly results rather than the coefficient system - this was mainly done to add credibility to the ludicrous world ranking system. In my view the coefficient system utilising competitive matches only is fairer and less open to manipulation. If i am wrong I am happy to be corrected. No I think you're right. Read up some more this afternoon on UEFA's site and everything I've seen point to it now being a done deal...we're in Pot 4 to stay. No Scotland rematch then...boo! People may as well start posting their preferred draws etc now then!

Well fuck me, if the rankings have been decided already, we can consider ourselves very lucky to have squeezed in at the bottom of pot 4 - presumably different results in the last double header would have meant we'd been pot 5...

The Belgian draw almost certainly clinched it for us! Proving, contrary to the view of some "club first" supporters, that there was a lot riding on this game. I did not mind 3 or 4 but worried about 5. Bad thing about being in pot 4 is that we could still draw Serbia. However, we avoid a very difficult Armenia.

Whilst it's not a unique occurrence specific to Wales, it certainly damages us more than it does nations with larger populations. Speaking of which, bizarrely (or maybe not), the only liverpool fans that I have met who are even remotely interested in the english national team all happen to be... Welsh.

Hope it's not pot 5

Great draw for qualifying
Bosnia Hungary/ Norway/Slovakia/Montenegro Moldova/ Azerbaijan/ Andorra/ San Marin/ Gibraltar
Nightmare
Spain / Germany / Holland Belgium Serbia Iceland doesn't matter
From the nightmare draw we would find it very difficult to qualify

A very difficult place to go. Whilst it would be great to get Bosnia (relatively speaking) from pot 1. I think it will be pots 2 & 3 that will influence things the greatest. Please no Belgium or Serbia! Best thing about being in pot 4 is that we have avoided Armenia & Finland. The former are especially strong.

Replace Bosnia with Greece and it's even better IMO (Bosnia beat Greece to qualify for WC outright)
