Guaranteed that if Wales beat Belgium in June and would be in the top seeds FIFA will change the goalposts (i.e. change the format) to stop it happening - they will base seeding on previous World Cup qualification campaigns like before you mark my words. Why? They want the best teams with the best players in the finals, and Wales fit that criteria more than most at the moment.

So let's all make sure that we don't get sidetracked from the job in hand. Nonsense, that's for the players and management to worry about! We fans can dream and speculate all we want. Exactly this. If you don't enjoy the good times, you're gonna be miserable your whole life.

I think 9th is a bit misleading as everyone who is above us would need to lose, coupled with us having to win of course. We would be comfortably inside the Top 20 though, maybe as high as 14th. I would still snap your hand off for a 0-0 in June mind.

Are we higher enough to make entry for Eurovision Song Contest on our own? Ceris Matthews with the Barry Horne's as backing group

Anyone know where we will be ranked in the world ish? I'm guessing we should make top 15 after beating a team so high up the rankings?

Are we going above England?
The magnitude of what the boys have done - not just last night but in the last ten matches is still not quite dawned on me.
Highest ever Wales ranking - HISTORY Ranked higher than England - HISTORY ranked in top seeds for World Cup draw - HISTORY Unbeaten after six matches in qualification - HISTORY (I think?) Not conceded a goal from open play after six games - HISTORY (I think!) Qualifying for Euro 2016 - HISTORY (don't let anyone tell you we aren't going)

More to the point are Belgium really 2nd?! Im really shocked looking back at our results that we have got where we have without beating a traditional powerhouse of the world game. We have built this foundation on steadily beating mediocre teams around us and getting results against a Belgium team that has an inflated ranking for its actual stature. So all to be taken with a pinch of salt, I feel. Still though, I will take pot 1 for the WC any way we can bloody well get it. Last jights result in the grand scheme of things was always going to be a bonus in terms of this campaign but in terms of the WC its absolutely fookin priceless. I will be seriously pissed off now if we draw the strongest teams from the remaining pots!

Just found the ranking tool on fifa.com. Our win takes us to 1155 points. That puts us 9th right now but I haven't looked at the other teams points.
Can you believe that, 9th in the world. It's crazy.
And we're here because we deserve to be. We're here because no one has beaten us since Holland did last year.
I also checked England out. If they beat Slovenia they will have 1157 points, just two infront of us. Otherwise, we become the best side in the UK, according to the world rankings anyway.

I will be seriously pissed off now if we draw the strongest teams from the remaining pots! These rankings are not totally unrepresentative. Belgium got to the quarter final of the World Cup and pushed Argentina hard, hammered France and had not lost a competitive game for a while - so they deserved to at least be in the top 10. Israel had not lost at home for 2 years+ or something and Portugal could not beat them. Bosnia qualified for a World Cup and pushed Argentina hard? When you isolate Italy, Germany and Spain - who exactly are these European powerhouses several levels above us? The ranking is a ranking based on rules - so we are there on merit!

Who have we actually beaten in that time? Wins against cyprus, andorra, israel, belgium, a draw against Bosnia and Belgium, after that Im struggling. Would you not expect a little bit more from a team ranked top 20? We obviously have the benefit of losing bad results from our record whilst adding the scalps of Israel (who were briefly on form and had an inflated ranking) and belgium who also are overrated in the rankings. Anyway Im not being negative...just realistic. Lets be fair we all said the rankings were bollocks when we were 100+ and they are still bollocks now that we are 20-

I think I am just surprised by Belgium really. Never been convinced by them as a team given their individual quality so for us to gain so many ranking places based on results against them seems a bit...artificial. Anyway, like I said above, its all bollocks really although if it means we get pot 1 for the world cup then I am more than happy to let the rankings be the official arbiter of a teams quality!

Are you Victor Meldrew in disguise? You can only beat what's put in front of you and Wales have done exactly that. The rankings system has worked against us so many times in the past, let's enjoy it while it's working in our favour, rest assured it won't last forever. If you went to a party and ending up copping off with Angelina Jolie would you spend the evening complaining about the inconsistent nature of your sexual conquests?

How high can our ranking go? In the July rankings, we'll be on 1155 points. Belgium in 3rd have 1244 (89 ahead)
We play Cyprus (85th) and Israel (50th) in September
I've done the calculations for the current year (willing to share if anyone is interested!!), and our points tally for the current year is 817. Win both these games and our current year's points will rise to 928 - a gain of 111. Win/Draw Draw/Win and we go up by 5 or 30.
In addition, after these games, any matches we've played in September 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 will be weighted less, which will generally be good for us as we've had a few pastings in September:
Our Sept 2011 "Year 4" matches are removed from the ranking altogether (win v Montenegro, loss v England) Our Sept 2012 "Year 3" matches are moved to Year 4, so are weighted at 20% instead of 30% (loss v Belgium, loss v Serbia) Our Sept 2013 "Year 2" matches are moved to Year 3, so is 30% instead of 50% (loss v Macedonia, loss v Serbia) Our Sept 2014 "Year 1 / Current Year" match is moved to Year 2, and is 50% instead of 100% (win v Andorra).
So on top of the 111 we'd gain from the 2 wins, we'd also probably gain some points from previous years (I haven't calculated these). Either way, worse case we'd be on 1255 - which in July's ranking would have been enough for 3rd in the world.
Unless I've got my maths wrong of course (quite possible).

If we continue to win, then we have every chance of staying in the top 10. At some point we are bound to start losing games, probably in the finals of the Euros if we make it or in the Bosnia-Herz away game.

I think our maximum possible would be if we were to win the next 3. Even if we then beat Andorra, I expect our points total would be lower.

Depends who we play and who others play doesn't it? I meant our maximum points (not ranking) available would likely be after Bosnia rather than Andorra. As you say, we can't control what other teams do. I was just pointing out that 2 wins would give us 1255 points, which in July's rankings, would have been enough for 3rd in the world. I am too lazy to work out the permutations for the teams currently above us come September.
