...feed him now and he will score!
Obvioulsy, he gets a lot of stick from loads of people on here and most Sheffield Utd fans seem to despise him, but apparently he was excellent today against Swansea, playing as a lone striker against one of the best defences in the division, and took his goal really well. Any of the 70 or so Swans who made it to the game on this board? What did you make of Ched?
I've always felt there was a great player in there just waiting to get out. After his hat-trick against the French U21s a few years back I thought we had the next Ian Rush on our hands, so its been a shame to see his progress has been slow so far. Maybe, ironically enough, the change of manager at Sheffield Utd could be the thing that finally helps him 'click' at club level? And the increased confidence of hitting the back of the net regularly will be somthing he can take onto the international stage? I've heard he has been unlucky at Sheff Utd in terms of hitting the woodwork a ridiculous number of times. I desperately hope todays winner means his luck has changed.

Agreed. So far, from what I've seen, still our best long-term prospect up front

Just watched the highlits on S4C, and whereas Morison looked ok, but with a disappointing touch, Ched Evans looked very useful.
If he can get on a scoring run with Sheff Utd, he could be very good for us.

Those highlights must have been well edited. In reality, Morison's touch isnt great but he actually held it up or played someone in more often than he didnt. Evans didnt have time to get in the game in any meaningful way.
I thought Morison was (relatively) a minor plus point

Ched has scored 9 goals for Sheffield Utd this season- OK, nothing to write home about but then it's not too bad for a struggling side. Many Sheff Utd fans- who it seems to a man despised him until a few months back- think he's been their best player this season.

I thought Morison was (relatively) a minor plus point Hes not suited to a lone striker role though because he cant seem to get the goals that he does at Championship level so he needs another striker alongside him, to get onto the flick ons and actually do the job of scoring. An Earnie type of character maybe (if Earnie could play at international level) but it seems Speed doesnt want to play anything other than 4-3-3

A superior non-league target man who's having one good season in the Championship. Not his fault. He just should not have been picked. He was never gonna beat the English defence for skill, so the least that could have been expected of him was for him to rough them up a bit. He showed them too much respect. I would love to be proved wrong about Morison but we are really doing our home-grown talent like Ched a disservice by not giving them a chance ahead of him.

It pains me to have to say it, but there's little question that Morison is at this moment the best striking option we have available. Wish it wasnt, but it's true. He's scored more goals than any of our other Champ strikers, both this season and last, and unlike Ched, Church, Vokes, Earnie and Eastwood, he's a guaranteed starter at his club. I too hope this situation changes, but there's little point putting your faith in an off-form player that can't even nail down a place is a bottom-half champ club.
And I don't think the Anglo/homegrown thing should come into it: we either welcome a player into the squad, or dont call them up in the first place.

And I don't think the Anglo/homegrown thing should come into it: we either welcome a player into the squad, or dont call them up in the first place. You're right. That's not really what I was getting at although I accept it can be interpreted that way. Ched's come up through the ranks and has been involved with the Welsh set-up at various age groups for years. That's more where I was coming from. Morison wasn't even on our radar this time last year. Ched also looked a lot sharper and more mobile than Morison when he came on. Morison has started all three of our qualifiers so far, yet hasn't really delivered a decent chance, nevermind a goal. He should be on the bench as an alternative option late on in the game, not our main attacking force. At the very least on Saturday, he should have made the Engand defence feel his presence. He didn't.

agreed, was there and he was awful, watched the highlights and he was still awful. Just because a player is having a good season in the championship doesn't mean he can cut international level. Ched has more international experience (u21s and seniors) has premiership experience and played in europe with man city.

saw the last 30 or so minutes of QPR v SU last night. Ched looked nothing more than an average championship player (albeit in a crap side).

3 million was way too much though, Man City saw Sheff United coming!

his choice needs to be a lucky one - put him in a successful team and he will score for fun at that level.
forest? A preston Project? providing they stay up.

He'll sell for £3m+ again before the end of his career... but maybe not this move.

If Sheff Utd go down Ched will probably be off for somewhere between 1.5 - 2 million to another championship club.... or maybe Norwich if they get up to the prem?! (did exceptionally well there in a loan spell a few years back and is highly rated by their fans)

(did exceptionally well there in a loan spell a few years back and is highly rated by their fans) Unless the scouting network at Norwich have lint between their ears they wont fail to have been (un)impressed by Ched's performances for Sheff United this season, given they are likely to be back in the prem I should think Bramall Lane is the last place they will be looking for a striker to take them to the next level. They might as well sign Churchy- I mean like Ched he was alright a season or two ago wasnt he! In fairness to Ched he has scored goals in a poor side so that goes in his favour but I cant see a decent side spunking good money on him. I reckon they will offload him for a million at most to a mid-lower table championship club that may be prepared to take a punt. It will get worse for Ched before it gets better IMO.

how will going to a mid table champ team be worse than staying at a relegated sheffield utd?
I see a decent Project wanting him.

Looks like you might be right FF! www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A83259101Great attitude shown by the boy Evans as well, if this is true. Combine that with his alleged remarks about Wales being the cause of his poor form and I think the lad has the ego to make it at the top level. If only he had the ability.... EDIT: Just had a quick nose on the Sheffield United forum and it looks like they suspect they could be linked with none other than.......Craig Davies! With a number of posters then wondering why "top league 2 talent" would go to a crap club like United and that Davies is actually off to Reading. Considering how poor Davies has looked for Wales I cant believe its the same player. Talk about swings and roundabouts....

"A fitting end for Evans" - getting stretchered off with a serious injury. They obviously dont like him much in the red and white part of Sheffield! Looks like its ligament damage as opposed to a break. At least it saves him the bother of having to come up with an excuse for giving the Scotland and N Ire games a miss

Ched is done.
Forget about him ever making a mark at international level - probably end up at Hereford or some lark soon enough.

Bonkers, Ched is only 22, one of our best prospects. Wouldn’t surprise me if Norwich signed him!

Nah, he will get a championship project - and a decent one i might imagine. if i was him though, i'd be looking abroad - plenty of skill but no pace...Holland?

here's my reasoning - this injury now will scupper any chance of a decent move this summer. wont be able to have a medical - and worse too - he wont have a decent pre season, so may as well write off next year too as he'll be playing catch up in terms of fitness which is so important.
thats why you can write him off. if this injury costs him his pre season, hes got a long way to go to get back in the reckoning at sheff utd, let alone other clubs.

Expectations, it's all we seem to have!
