Aaron Ramsey came back and proved them wrong - Hope the same thing happens with Ched.

Although I'd say a decent championship club is his more likely destination, it's possible Ched could be back in the prem next season if Norwich come in for him. Lambert seems to have a habit of getting the best out of unfancied players, he had a good spell there before, as loved by Norwich fans as he appears hated by Sheff U fans!
He is only 22- it was at about his age now that Ian Rush really came good at Liverpool.

Its a terrible situation for all concerned it seems as I cant see anyone coming in for him when he will be out for a while with uncertainty over his long term fitness, whilst Sheff United want his (rumoured) 10-20k a week off the wage bill. To be fair, thats a hell of a wedge by league one standards. Would Norwich come in for him while hes got ligament damage? They would have to be mad unless Sheff United tore up his contract, gave him away on a free and kissed goodbye to the best part of 1 million they paid up front to sign Ched.

This is my whole point - i'm not doubting his ability, I do have some question marks about his attitude and how he applies himself - he's hardly set the world on fire in his career so far, but now he's got a nasty injury, at really the wrong time of his career.
That means next season he'll: a) Be at a club that needs to take a real risk - and they gamble on him - this is probably the best situation for him, if someone like Palace for example take a punt and he comes good. b) Still at Sheff Utd - they will bring in players this summer and get rid of old, if hes not fit during pre season and they start well - will he get a spot? Doubtful. c) Ends up going on loan somewhere from place to place, and quickly gets recognised as a player that can be brought in to 'do a job' - but never be the main man at any club which (imo) is what every striker needs. A sort of championship style Emile Heskey.

RD - are you seriously saying that Ched- a man with 13 goals in 13 games at u21 level and who scored with a backheel flick minutes after coming on for his international debut- doesn't have any talent?!

It was tongue in cheek...but there is no doubt his career has gone downhill since those heady days. Scoring at under 21 level means nowt in the grand scheme of things and if rumours are to be believed then I dont think he has the right attitude either. Early days though I guess, but it would have been a whole lot easier for him and us if he been able to slot into Sheffield Uniteds side like a glove and bang in the goals regularly.

Great move for him. £1.2m seems incredible though, as he's unproven even at Championship level. Oh well, I'm sure Mowbray knows more about him than I do!
Great for him and Wales. Good luck to him!

£1.2m is crazy. Have these clubs actually watched Ched this year?

If it clicks for Ched somewhere, 1.2 million COULD become an absolute bargain.

In a Wales shirt I always thought he was a good player. Clubwise though, its a different story. We really need a decent striker who is first choice and playing regularly.

If it clicks for Ched somewhere, 1.2 million COULD become an absolute bargain. Im sure Sheffield United thought the same! 3 year contract, 20k a week, highest earner, cost 1.5m - 3m (with add-ons). No wonder Sheffield United went down, what the hell were they thinking making signings like that?! 1.2m would be a ridiculous amount to pay, you would have thought 500k as a punt on a backup striker and see if he proves himself. The world has gone mad.

maybe, beacause he plays well for wales he is just a better player when he cares
if he played for cardiff he could be great, he could be really passionate about wearing the jersey

Pass the pipe once you're done. *passes pipe* You know what, I don't know what I've been thinking with all my recent unjustifiably negative comments on here. I can't wait for the Montenegro game which will be played on a glorious autumn evening with a 5-0 win for Wales. And then we will beat England 6-0, Switzerland 8-0 and Bulgaria 10-0, England will collapse and the angels will appear out of the sky and sing 'Glory, glory hallelujah' as Aaron Ramsey scores a hat-trick to beat Ireland 3-0 in the play-offs. Try some of this, it's not bad stuff. PS. please take this in good spirit FF

13 goals in 13 games for the U21s, 10 goals in 25 or so games for struggling Norwich whilst there on loan, a backheel flick to score with his first touch in international football... If you seriously don't think Ched has any talent, then you're either stupid or have been hitting the bong for too long. Pass it boys, we're about to beat Spain in the 2012 final.....

- Ched was playing in a very successful under-21s team. That team contained Ramsey, Church, Allen, King etc. The goals record was good but it's not senior football.
- Norwich was a while back. Valuation is based more on his recent form.
- According to wikipedia sice joining Sheffield United he has 13 goals from 67 appearances. Would you pay £1m+ for that kind of form?

Now theres fighting talk! ;D I dont think anyone would argue that he doesnt have talent, there are just question marks over what his level is. Its quite possible for players to devolve, look at Church- he seems a shadow of the player who (imo) left Ramsey in the shade during that play-off against England. Will he ever hit those heights again? Who knows.

Well, maybe Mowbray is doing what any good manager should, and backing himself to bring out the best in a talented player who has underachieved in recent times?

Well, maybe Mowbray is doing what any good manager should, and backing himself to bring out the best in a talented player who has underachieved in recent times? But you would also think he would get the best deal for his club. 1.2 million is a touch excessive by anyones standards. Seeing as United want shot to get him off the wage bill I would have thought they could have haggled them right down. Sheff United have got to be laughing their rocks off. They went down but will have done some excellent business along the way- 500k cashback for a guy they would have replaced anyway and 1.2 million back against an asset that has depreciated considerably since they signed him. Not bad work really.

Boro have history in paying inflated fees. They usually do it for over-the-hill players. Signing someone still relatively young is as shrewd as it comes for them
