Also, how about starting the league when the English leagues finish? Would this be a way to increase attendances? A winter break could be introduced then when the weather is traditionally bad. Ive always called for this, i think it massively help attendances. Also think there needs to be more Southern teams, as another user mentioned, having clubs with larger populations, logically would have the ability to call on larger crowds. There isn't a fair way of doing this however, the clubs are there because they are the best. Having Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham "B" sides might be an idea, but i think this isnt possible due to the clubs being registered in England. Also, might be detrimental to the existing clubs. Possibly the idea of priority loans from these clubs into the league. But for this to work, the quality has to be there, these clubs are not going to prioritse the WPL over the National League or NL North & South as the quality at the moment is higher. There are more southern teams in the league now Cardiff met Barry Carmarthen Llanelli Wrexham and Newport wouldn't necessarily win the league with their first team so b teams not the answer B teams are not allowed but nothing to stop a team ground sharing with Cardiff and Swansea and becoming the fans second team.

They wouldn't as they wouldn't have the squad they have now. Don't underestimate how good TNS are. They have a big budget with their keeper on 75k if you believe the rumours.

Newport are mid table this year but almost went down last year after years out of the football league

The Newport second team would push for the title. And comparing Newport a League Two side with Merthyr, well how can you debate when you make ridiculous statements like that!

Talking of joke comments, Newport reserves 😂

Newport are barely able to support one team, don't have their own ground do how they could help another team is currently laughable

I know it won't happen but I would like to see a 16 league team with Merthyr and Wrexham joining. Also a Cardiff and Swansea based club who link up with their first teams. This would increase support massively increase TV coverage and sponsorship which would be great for all the teams involved. Merthyr and Colwyn Bay would be a good start.

Would both teams be happy starting in the lower leagues

Looking at Colwyn Bay's first team and disappointed as there doesn't seem to be any Welsh Players in their squad.
Merthyr on the other hand have picked up a number of youth players released by Cardiff and Swansea.
Seems strange that other recently released by Cardiff are playing in the southern premier league. These players don't seem to think that the WPL is an option.
Maybe the WPL should hold trial matches in pre season for players released by Cardiff Swansea Newport and Wrexham as a way giving young players a chance?

A second club for the two cities playing in the Welsh leagues. I don't think Newport could sustain it As a question for Wrexham fans, does joining the Welsh system become a genuine proposition at any point? For example if the club remained in the National League for another 10 years or dropped even further?

Using Wikipedia (I know it's not the most reliable source) for a list of the population of Welsh towns you could easily see teams in Cwmbran, Bridgend and Pontypridd (with Caerphilly, Mountain Ash and Aberdare in close proximity for additional fans) could be sustainable clubs for an expanded WPL. In my view increasing the teams in the league by 4 should be considered. In terms of comments about Newport bring able to sustain a WPL club alongside County I think that Cwmbran WPL club could be the answer. Newport in recent seasons have loaned players to national and southern league clubs and if these players were loaned to Cwmbran they could still train with Newport whilst gaining experience en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_built-up_areas_in_Wales_by_population

The quality of the WPL is more in line with the Conference North/South or the Northern Premier League. It's not difficult to imagine a club like Chorley upsetting TNS's apple cart, because they've been in actual competition for years.
Always thought Cardiff MU should rebrand to Caerdydd CPD or something similar, it'd give them wider appeal in Cardiff which is currently just limited to uni students and the occasional oddball. As for Wrexham having some representation, I wouldn't be opposed to our U21's entering the league, although I can see complaints from fans of proper clubs like Bangor and Barry kicking off, so probably best to loan our brightest youngsters to Cefn Druids.
Getting Neath/Port Talbot back in the mix wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Am I right in thinking Newport City play at Spytty Park? I know they’re 3 promotions away from WPL but it would be good if they could have some sort of link up with County at some point. Possibly borrowing some of their youth players.

As a Wrexham fan and someone who strongly believes in the Welsh Premier League it’s still a no for me. It’s shocking the difference in attendances between us and National League teams, we may be a National League team in terms of division but despite being out of it for 10 years we are a Football League club playing in the National League. Compare Wrexham to Accrington Stanley who will be playing in League One 2,000 fans and the chairman’s getting excited, 2,000 at Wrexham and you’re wondering why the fans are boycotting the match.

Is there a point at which the WPL becomes a genuine proposition though? If Wrexham were to stagnate in the National League North for example? I can see where you’re coming from but I personally feel Wrexham is as low as it can get right now. It’s taken administration, a points deduction from the FA and the chairman asset stripping the club to spiral us into the National League. The only reason why we’re still down here is because of the 1 automatic promotion place, I know people will say you’ve only finished 2nd once but there’d be less of a bottleneck for promotion if 3 went up. The only possible outcome I could see for Wrexham to be in the Welsh league would be if all the Welsh clubs are kicked out of the English leagues. If the Welsh leagues were to improve to a point where Newport County decided to join I still can’t see that being enough to persuade Wrexham, I think it would have to take Cardiff and Swansea joining the league to make it appeal to Wrexham. That’s not a knock against Newport either, they’re a good club but it’d have to be all the Welsh clubs doing it if Wrexham were to follow. Just on a personal note as well I live nowhere near Wrexham. I support them because in my eyes they are the football club of North Wales, every match is Wales vs England. If Wrexham were to join the Welsh League they’d go from the North Wales football club to the football club of Mold Road. There’s a league full of Wrexham based teams so what would make them Wrexham?

Yes, let's give them a free shot at Europe
However, this is not allowed under UEFA and my personal opinion is you either play in Wales or England. You can't pick and choose

You can't pick and choose I see where you're coming from, and it's an idealistic scenario, but there's a lot of history, custom and practice which has led us to where we are today with the Welsh clubs. Things aren't going to change overnight as there is a huge chasm in outlook, fanbase and, ker-ching, money between Wrexham, Newport, Cardiff and Swansea and the WPL sides. Having a competition that would involve all Welsh clubs would be great. And you would probably need the carrot of a Europa League spot to get the Swans and Bluebirds involved. It's a shame UEFA can't get their heads around the nature and development of our club game. I'm sure there must be other places and other cases.

I’d love all the English based Welsh teams to have reserve teams in the Welsh football system. It would be great if they could have a compromise, reserve teams can qualify for Europe but only the Europa League and a maximum of 1 reserve team can qualify for Europa League per season. If Swansea reserves win it, they qualify for Europ League, Cardiff in 2nd miss out completely, Wrexham in 3rd miss out, TNS in 4th qualify for the Champions League.
I know it’s seem silly 4th place qualifying for Champions League but Man United did it from 6th.

I'm sure Colwyn bay and Merthyr reserve would walk the league and Wrexham and Newport reserves would win in a canter
Let's kick out all the hard working clubs who have spent relative fortunes getting to where they are and those in the league's below can go feck themselves too.
Then let's give the clubs the chance to qualify for Europe through 2 countries
We need to improve what we have and invest in clubs who want to be there not those who want to continue to take the English £

If everything stays separate, then nothing changes. That's fair enough and I can see why people would want that - but it's also very entrenched. A decent compromise might at least see one competition where every club in Wales are pitted against each other. That said, there doesn't seem to be the impetus for that happening from the FAW or the clubs... so it probably won't get further than a message board and the occasional pub conversation anyway. I just think it would be great to get all Welsh clubs around the table for one competition, and the Welsh Cup is the obvious one.

They cannot enter the Welsh cup as it is an entry to Europe.
There was an invitation cup a fees years ago but not all the "English" clubs didn't take it seriously. I do remember a full Newport cream getting well beaten a couple of times.
Personally just wish Welsh football fans went and watched their local team now and again
