Yep- use the momentum, that sort of thing... Unfortunately, I think the powers that be are likely to assume everything's OK now and rest on their laurels instead. Trendy- you're a bit of a Bangor fan aren't you? Will you make it up to the racecourse for the next round?

TNS's result was better than Bangor's. But to think we've got two teams in the third round in Europe, that really is very good. Big well done to Bangor - I thought they might still struggle despite a good result in the first leg, but they proved me wrong.
Incidentally I note the San Marinese team, Tre Penne Galazzano, who sound like something you'd order in your local Italian restaurant, got beat 9-2 tonight......hopefully those days are behind the League of Wales, but it's hard not to feel sympathy for them.

How many international players have come from the WPL? How could we well the WFA change this.
I think it could benifit the National squad if the clubs in the WPL were feeder clubs towards the likes of Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham. A little like the reigons in Rugby.
Or
Perhaps joining the Irish teams in a celtic league type of set up.

funnily enough the other day i was saying to my mates how good would a celtic league be in football. it's a great idea. but how many champions league places do you give? 4 welsh teams?4 scottish? 4 northern irish and 4 rep of ireland or two irish each?
also does it give fifa ammunition as too a british side?
this idea though is bonkers and will never happen.

delaney?steve evans?that lad lloyd?that played at barry when gould was in charge??
the celtic league thing is absoloute rubbish and will never happen
ideally the welsh league will get stronger with time, its a baby compared to many country league's,as someone who spends a bit of time in ireland i will say that the irish league sides in general are better than our's at the moment...ok i know what happened with tns and bohs but overall the quality is better in ireland
its a summer league over there, played on friday nights mainly as they cant compete with celtic, liverpool and man utd on saturdays..might be an idea for our league aswell?

Switch to summer and/or play more games on Friday nights. Crowds are proven to be better on Fridays and judging by the Irish example playing in the summer improves European performances on the whole.
The idea that clubs like TNS become feeders to Newport and Wrexham is a bit insulting to be honest, anyone who watched the Sofia game will see that TNS would give either of those teams a very good game if not beat them. Swansea already have a bit of an informal arrangement with local WPL clubs like Port Talbot and Neath; they loan players out to these clubs and play friendlies there. Works OK. I expect Cardiff would do the same if there was a WPL team local to them.
Celtic League would be interesting but would not happen. Perhaps a little pre-season tournament with Welsh, NI, ROI European teams and Scottish Europa League teams would be more practical solution. You'd have 15 teams there (plus one wildcard) to do a straight knockout with. But even then the fact that the ROI teams play in a summer league would mean they would probably field weakened sides.

Well it was a bit premature to pick Gary lloyd for wales all those years ago and nothing has changed since then. Having played in the welsh league i can say the standard back then was not high and i whilst it would be nice to have a competitive league here in wales it will take a while yet as money will always be an issue in keeping the players. I would like to see the Swans et al back in the comp fielding a young reserve team.

Very positive news - IF anything can improve the WPL then moving it to the summer could be it. Better playing surfaces, better conditions for spectators, less competition for fans with English pyramid clubs & rugby and even the possibility of out of contract English players coming in for a stint with Welsh clubs over the summer to earn contracts in the English system.

The main benefit will be Welsh clubs that qualify for Europe will be on a more level playing field with theire usual opponents from the likes of Finland, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, etc. and have a better chance of progressing... which means £££££££. The money will improve facilities, pitches, etc. Some will go in wages but if it attracts better calibre players then that's not a problem

i fail to understand why they cant do regional football.
start with 9.
1 mid. one north west one north east. 2 south west, 2 south east 2 south central
for example powys , wrexham? then bangor and rhyl etc unite as one, llanelli (give them funding) then another swansea team just make them. newport and a new cardiff team. then a rhondda team and a glamorgan team.
there i just fixed welsh football

I'm not sold on the idea of a manufactured league, although the fact that the population centres of Cardiff,Newport & Swansea don't have sides in the WPL is no doubt part of the reason for low attendances. . . I mean how many people live in that famous Welsh metropolis 'Airbus'? They'll be dancing on the streets of TNS and all that. . .

TNS been they are proffesional. Neath. there is a league of 10 right there. 12 if you include bangor and rhyl though in my oppinion unite a load of the mid wales teams fo the 11th team and 1the team bangor, rhyl etc unite. i know itll nver happen. EVER. it should though especially now we have quality youngsters to distract us for 10 years while the league grows. also why is it not possible to a cletic league? 4 n ire 4 r ire 4 scottish 4 welsh, all you have 2 do is move the 4 champ league qualifying places surely.

i cant agree and i cant see anyone who follow's these clubs agreeing with you either, bangor has a fine tradition in welsh football and are currently walking away with the league, they are also trying for a new stadium (struggle and not as flash as colwyn bay granted)
what this league wants is time,it's a baby compared to most european league's,it needs time to develop, you look at it from when it started to where it is now there has been a massive improvement, hopefully it will continue...yeah it needs some guidance and something needs to be done to get more welsh talent out of it but rome wasnt built in a day
the summer league is an excellent idea

Its a shame there arent any South East Wales sides in the WPL but regional football sounds far too contrived to me. I'd hate to see the tradition of a club like Bangor City lost. On this point, can anyone explain to me why Merthyr Tydfil are so keen to stay in the English system, despite all their problems in recent years? They'd be a great club to have in the WPL, and that would solve the SE Wales problem too. And if the FAW could find a way to help Rhyl get back that would be good too. For all the reasons mentioned above playing the WPL between March and November would be a massive step forward. A better, more vibrant, more credible Welsh Prem could provide a very important base for Welsh football as a whole. It's time to raise the expectations of what it can achieve. For example, how many players who have come out of the league have gone on to play for Wales? By my reckoning it's 3 ( although not sure): Mark Delaney, Steve Evans and Owain Tudur Jones. 3 in 18 years aint great. I don't think its too unrealistic to hope the WPL can produce 6 or 7 Welsh internationals per decade. big Nev goes into this a bit here: www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-in-wales/2010/06/13/southall-wants-to-get-the-wales-world-cup-party-started-91466-26640477/

I wondered the same thing about Merthyr, they have gone into a terrible league and surely they'd be better served going into the WPL. It'd be good for them and good for the league. I'd love to see the WPL make some progress, as a youngster I used to go regularly to watch Cwmbran Town and enjoyed some cracking European nights. At that time South East Wales boasted Cwmbran, Inter Cardiff, Barry and even Ebbw Vale & Ton Pentre but after the initial few years interest seemed to have dwindled.

What a load of tosh You must be tory from south Wales, to suggest that Bangor City should unite with Rhyl is ridiculous and insulting t Bangor City. joining up with them english lot they have far more in common with them colwyn bay lot the stadium that is to be based in colwyn bay is more or less in place in eirias park now but teams like merthyr ( what a dump) newport (full of foul spitting chavs) and colwyn bay (run by english colonialists) should not be allowed to join any league in wales after the way they have treated the league of wales and the fa, how come u ain't uniting teams from south wales then?

The FAW gets slated for its lack of commercial nous. Numerous posts suggest, even demand, that public money be ploughed into grounds, facilities and coaching. Yet sponsorship from companies like Airbus and TNS could be risked leaching out of the Welsh game in the name of arbitrary regionalisation and/or restructuring.
Remarkably narrow-sighted

It's as a direct result of beating Bohemians and drawing against CSKA Sofia, which boosted the coefficient from 0.8 orthereabouts to 2.3. Amazing really that it's resulted in seeding as TNS had not won a tie in about 15 attempts prior to last year.
