MOTM for many Villa fans yesterday... playing well lately, top man. Yes. He has been playing really well since Christmas. Was quite surprised that he didn't make the 23 for Slovakia...

We might need him in the June double header...

We might need him in the June double header... To my mind he should start in Croatia as we are going to need all the experience we can muster over there.

Personally wouldn't have Taylor in my team makes too many mistakes.
Davies and Dummett both ahead of him for me.

Had two shots on goal ;-) Was very good and kept Tyler quiet for 7 or 8 minutes (when he was on his side) until Bielsa got hold of his interpreter and told Tyler to keep out of that fantastic left-backs way ;-)

After Ben Davies, he has been our top performing defender of the last few months & has been a major factor in Villa’s great run. Sadly for Chester, his time out of the side has also mirrored that period. Anyway, going back to Taylor, he deserves a place back in the Welsh starting line-up based on recent form.

I think Paul Dummett has been our best performing defender in recent weeks and needs to be the side.

A clear third behind Davies and Dummett.

... with the risk of repeating myself ...
Yet another fantastic show from young Neil. Had at least five great blocks / clearances and looks fantastic flying down the left. Put the fear of God into WBA with his burst of pace and pin-point cross for the first Villa goal. Full of confidence going forward and hopefully saving his goals for June ;-)
Sadly, no Chester or Robson-Kanu even on the bench.

HRK will miss all the play-offs as he had sent off straight red in the last league game for WBA.

That was one serious flying tackle he got the yellow for. Reminiscent of Dublin ;-(

Good to hear that he's been putting top performances in for Villa lately.
Could well feature for us next month.

No idea why some on here seem to suggest that Dummett is in any way in the same league as Neil. Dummett is a Championship player who is playing in the PL, whereas Taylor is a Premiership player who is playing in the Championship. Full stop.
On a personal note to Neil. Please be kind on our Harry today, as we will need him in June. Please let him out of your pocket for free kicks, now and again - just the ten yards ... its the law ;-))

I'm watching the game and, apart from Trinidad and Tobago where he didn't do anything, this is the first time I've seen Taylor for a while. I'd been getting the impression from reading comments on here that Taylor was playing far more dynamically and offering a threat going forward. On the basis of this performance, I can't see that sort of development in his game at all. It's the same old limited Taylor for me, plenty of endeavour and solid enough defensively, but poor on the ball - he passed it straight out at least twice in the first half. It's a typical Taylor performance that I've seen dozens of times in a Welsh shirt and I'm happy we've moved away from it to be honest.

I will wager that Taylor will not start villas first game back in the epl. Our third choice left back.

Taylor can be a liability, Dummett is a better player and can cover at centre back if needed. Taylor is third choice

Georgia and Serbia at home. He was a weakness throughout the WC qualifiers, it’s no coincidence we improved when he was suspended.
Saying that he’s just had a good season by his recent standards and it would be great if he can establish himself in the top flight again.
Just can’t see it happening.

Bit of a google says Paul Dummett has scored 4 goals in his career, same as Neil Taylor. According to the premierleague website, Dummett has 0 assists in 112 premier league appearances, and Neil Taylor had 5 during his last stint in the prem...131 appearances . www.premierleague.com/players/4340/Paul-Dummett/overview www.premierleague.com/players/4402/Neil-Taylor/overviewPretty sure Taylor has had a couple of assists this season for Villa! well at least 1... Let's be honest, they're probably really similar, solid defenders, room to improve their attacking game.

Grealish owes most of his praise to Taylor - they seem to have a great chemistry on the left wing. I'm pretty sure if you ask that Irishman who he'd prefer to play with, Davies/Dummett or Neil - there will be only one answer!

Yes
Ben Davies

I have to agree with the consensus here on Neil Taylor sadly.
It's Ben Davies' position without a doubt. After that, Dummett pips Taylor to the post for me. Maybe, he'll pick up some momentum when he's back in the Premier League? I remain doubtful because from what I have seen, Dummett has been more solid than Taylor. We'll see.

I think Dummetts the better defender but Neil Taylor was written off way too early and clearly deserves his place in the squad on merit. If you factor in Dummetts reliability and injury issues then maybe he's not quite as useful. At the moment however they should both be in the squad having both had very strong end of season runs.
