Another youngster to look out for, I noticed he was on the bench for Cardiff today. I liked the look of this kid in the victory shield a couple of years back- a bit like Ledley but with more pace.

17-year old boy's second game for Cardiff today up in Macclesfield and he looks like yet another Welsh star down the left. Seems to have pace and composure.
Any more info on him, from those that have watched him through the Welsh youth sides? He certainly looks like one to keep a giant eye on.

His performance v Macclesfield was given 8 out of 10 in the Western Mail

What was the rest of the side given? Hopefully less, but knowing the WM, someone has to get a nine!

Class. But...Another Full Back!! I think he'll play further up the field in future. Bit like Bale ( although lets face it, he's unlikely to be as good)

He said he wanted to make use of their academy so that sounds good for the likes of morrell and that Burns lad. Still hope the c***s get relegated mind ;D

Can anyone explain why he is with the full squad instead of the u21s. He hasn't yet played an U21s game.
Surely Dummett should be included at his expense and the U21s strengthened.
Also why is Huws only on the standby list

I expect that the media will not ask any of these questions. Agree with what you say.

Can anyone also explain the number of different starters we've had in the past three games? When we were at our best beating France, Italy, Sweden etc, the team would pick itself barring those who may've played with the senior side. To us on the outside looking in, there have been some strange squad decisions in the past few months - to think Huws is on the standby list??? That would've been like putting Ramsey on the standby list from that U21 side those few years ago. Is it because he's suspended for the first game maybe??? Out of interest the last three teams are as follows:
Finland Aug Ward Hewitt Freeman Tancock Walsh Isgrove Bodin (Burns - 46' ) Lawrence (Dawson - 68' ) Huws Lucas Cassidy
San Marino Sept Ward Freeman Fox Tancock Walsh Evans Huws (Ogleby - 65' ) Lawrence Isgrove Burns (Bodin - 83' ) Cassidy (Bradshaw - 56' )
Moldova Sept Roberts Hewitt Fox Ray Walsh Lucas Huws Lawrence Isgrove Burns (Bodin - 73' ) Ogleby (Bradshaw - 80' )
Starting appearances: Huws 3, Isgrove 3, Lawrence 3, Walsh 3, Burns 2, Cassidy 2, Freeman 2, Hewitt 2, Lucas 2, Ward 2, Tancock 2, Fox 2, Evans 1, Roberts 1, Ray 1, Ogleby 1, Bodin 1.
Only 4 have started every game (and Huws won't currently be playing in the next two) and 17 different starters? Is it just me or does that seem a lot? I just think a settled U21 team will help win games and ultimately help the seniors in a few years.

I'd have put him in the u21 squad too. Makes sense doesn't it?
Glad to see Josh Pritchard in there (and some of our underperforming strikers like Cassidy and Ogleby dropped)
I'd have promoted Harry Wilson though. Its the kind of thing Flynn did - he played Ramsey, Allen and Joniesta when they were all just 16 for the u21s. Williams seems much more conservative about picking younger players...but its' not really working for him going with the older lads at u21 level at the moment.

apparently had a great game today here are some comments from twitter:
"Great result for Cardiff huge confidence boost, Declan John #MOTM for me"
"Oh, and I should mention that Declan John is a huge talent and will be a sought after player if we go down. @cardiffcityfc"
"Declan John is our best player by a country mile at the moment. Poor half of football so far"
"Declan John should have atleast 92 acceleration on FIFA - the kid is rapid!"
"I like that we've cloned Declan John. Tan is playing god, I see."
I havn't seen him play much, but by the sound of it he's great at going forward and very fast- seeing as we have enough cover at left back does anyone think he is a potential future option for playing left wing? We desperately need more options there

"I like that we've cloned Declan John. Tan is playing god, I see." ------ Partcularly liked this! Great stuff. 18 years old and broken through into a premier league team- not bad.. he seems like a great kid too. Keep it going Dec!
And yeah, I think he could play left wing in future.

Williams seems much more conservative about picking younger players...but its' not really working for him going with the older lads at u21 level at the moment. Maybe. But is the current crop of U17s in the class of Ramsey and Allen? Flynn picked them but really he had little choice given the calibre coming through in a clutch (Hennessey, Ched, Gunter, etc.). Williams is still blooding players an age grade ahead by and large i.e, U19s in the U21s, U17s in the U19s. And the success at U17s and 19s in reaching their elite levels would suggest he's largely doing the right thing (San Marino result, Finland drubbing aside)

The new Cardiff manager has decided to play a midfielder at left back ahead of Declan John (Fabio was a late withdrawal)
Is this the cost/punishment of going on international duty.
Declan has to get out of Cardiff and as soon as possible

If Gunnerson and Marshall are also dropped then yes, if not then no.

In fact, the game has already started and Gunnerson and Marshall are both playing.
So I'm afraid it's good old fashioned 'not selected'

Those 2 are regulars, John isn't

Would seem a strange thing to do, punish John for going on international duty because he isn't a regular but allow Gunnerson and Marshall to play for their country as they are regulars.
if anything, John was the player least affected by the internationals both games were in Cardiff and he didn't play.He more or less only had to drive to a different meeting place in the same city he normally trains in.
I'm sorry, this is a non starter.

I think the fact he hadn't trained with the Cardiff team all week cost Declan John his place

Then in that case it might just be the fact that Russell Slade hasn't seen much of him rather than a punishment.

I think the fact he hadn't trained with the Cardiff team all week cost Declan John his place Nothing to do with the fact that he came on with his side 2-0 up vs Norwich, got targetted and they lost 4-2 then? Sorry, I like Declan John, but he has lots of room for improvement. Can't blame Slade for not playing him. Especially as they won today.

Well if he isn't going to get picked ahead of Joe Ralls and Craig Noone at left back then he needs to get out.
I have already stated elsewhere he is better off playing further forward but to be overlooked like he was today must be really worrying for him
