Ok after watching Evans for a few games now I can say he's decent and could well play Championship football at least. Has superb strength and is beginning to bundle some big ugly conference hoofers off the ball with ease. If he dont make the u21's then there's no justice and he'll probably move in the next window. Too good for us. Not sure if he's only 17 or 18! Got injured the other day didn't he? I presume that's why he went off in the first half? Yes, subbed for injury. Out for a few weeks.

First round of the FA Cup drawn today on ITV at 13:30.
Would love Bristol Rovers away for County. If we get past Yate that is.

The rumour last night is that Lee Evans is wanted by Aston Villa and one other Prem club.
Wait and see I suppose.

It's not sad for us really, we wont give him away but never stand in a players way either. We have enough options in midfield too and despite being effective we will never see the best of him because he will be gone a long time before that. I think non league teams accept this as a matter of course. Even Arsenal are a selling team. MUFC couldn't keep Ronaldo either could they?

are a league 2 team!!
9 out of the last 10 teams to go up in the play offs are still there, and teams such as fleetwood and yeovil have a far far less population than Newport! atmospheres buzzing down here.
I think it's the best outcome for Wales, they have overachieved i feel, If they didn't win today i don't think they could of done it next year but i think Wrexham can. I even think they'll win the league next year, soon we will have 4 league teams
bigger news than we are all making out I feel as county won't go down.
Dragons and County and the council should work together and sort rodney parade out get a decent stadium here like llanelli's

I have a lot of ties to Wrexham and am a Trust member so I'm gutted for the club. I have my fears (expressed in another thread) for the club but at least these are unrelated to off-field matters, for a change! Llongyfarchiadau to Newport though and if Wrexham were to be beaten by anyone I'm glad it is them. I can see me nipping up there a few times next season. Got a mate who's a Wycombe fan and the Bristol Rovers game will be tasty. Pompey too will be a laugh

Fair play to County... its a great story, their fall and rise. If we were going to lose to anyone, I'm glad its them.

I was at the game, both sets of fans were brilliant. I think Wrexham are going to be fine. I think County would have been up there next season if we'd of lost. COUNTYY COUNTYYYYYYY

I meant while they are playing in league 2 ect next season and present time, he looks a good player mind. Fair enough. There was an amazing interview with Pipe on BBC Sport Wales earlier this season, all about his rehabilitation after his prison sentence, well worth a watch if you can find it.

There was an amazing interview with Pipe on BBC Sport Wales earlier this season, all about his rehabilitation after his prison sentence, well worth a watch if you can find it. Lest we forget amongst all the joviality: www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Sister-Pipe-victim-rattled-sentence/story-11249243-detail/story.html#axzz2SeagbL5P""The victim noticed the defendant holding a bottle and warned his friend. The defendant hit the victim over the head with the bottle and the victim fell to the ground, unconscious, effectively pole-axed." Miss Bolt said Mr Morris received hospital treatment for injuries which included a cut to the lining of his brain, and had surgery to insert metal plates into his skull. In a statement read out to the court, Mr Morris said he suffered headaches, falls, short-term memory loss and had not worked since. He said he returned home in March to be cared for by his family, had difficulty sleeping and took tablets to stop fits. Miss Morris said her brother was changed by the assault and now found socialising very difficult. She told the Evening Post: "He's a lot better than he was a few months ago, but he's lost his house and he's moved back to our parents. He doesn't remember a lot about what happened, other than before and after when he woke up in hospital." After the hearing, Mr Morris's father Pete, 60, a site manager from Kent, said: "Rhys is on the mend. But he falls over, gets very bad headaches and can't sleep unless the light's on." In court, Ian Kelcey, defending, said his client had brought out a part-drunk bottle of wine from the club and conceded the injuries caused to Mr Morris were serious. " David Pipe is a cunt of the highest order and should be nowhere near a football pitch to continue living a privileged lifestyle while his victim is left permanently scarred by what that piece of shit did.

Storm, I agree to a point and I think the fact that he is captain is poor.
What are your views on Ched?

Storm, I agree to a point and I think the fact that he is captain is poor. What are your views on Ched? Totally different case and circumstances that one. Normally I am all for fair recompense for the victim, both in terms of length of sentence and remuneration to the victim to at least attempt to recompense for the suffering they will live with for the rest of their life- as in the Pipe case. However everything that is in the public domain about Ched's case suggests its literally a 'he-said' she-said' situation. There have been some rather worrying disclosures about the victim also since. So I am not 100% sure of his guilt, although that being said I would still not support him playing for Wales ever again and feel that, like Pipe, perhaps its best if he pursues a life outside football on his release. Its the sort of situation that a lot of guys can find themselves in so I have some sympathy as a man, however it also has to be said that someone with such a promising career was a bloody idiot for putting himself in that position in the first place- especially as he already had a girlfriend who most of us mortals could only dream about.

I can understand any vitriol aimed at Pipe, he did what he did.
However, he served his time as determined by the courts, whether you agree with that is another discussion.
He's learned from his mistakes and is a model captain and often refers back to his mistake. He does not kick the shit out of the opposition even though one or two 'try it on', or 'wind him up'.
There would be a prison in every town is no forgiveness was allowed. And we'd all be in one too.
Odd how sympathy for Ched can be expressed by those who judge Pipe.
You weren't there when Ched did what he did and you weren't there when Pipe did what he did.

Getting back to Newport County.
I'm hopeful we'll be a League 1 team within 3 years. However I don't think we would be able to progress from there given our fickle fan base.

You weren't there when Ched did what he did and you weren't there when Pipe did what he did. To be fair, they are two different cases, there is a certain amount of conjecture in what actually happened with Ched and I doubt anybody apart from whoever was in the room knows what really happened. Where is the conjecture in one man hitting an unarmed man over the head with a bottle so hard that he is permanently altered by the injuries both mentally and physically? Not to mention a steel plate being fitted in his head. That was a brazen act of thuggery, which, given the repercussions deserved far harsher punishment than was actually given. Whilst its right that he should be allowed to live his life upon release, you have to ask if there really is any justice in him being able to go back to competing in a sport which pays well, even for the level that pipe is at with the only repercussions for pipe that he loses a few years of his career and has to live with the guilt (and the level of remorse is debatable based on what I hear from people who knew him at Bristol Rovers). The victim meanwhile sounds like he will struggle to hold down a job and has had his physical abilities impaired in his youth, something he will never get back. Its just not right, no matter how anybody tries to justify it with the old canard of "he's done his time etc."

Two totally different cases. In Ched's case there's no actual EVIDENCE that ANY crime was committed. In Pipe's case there's plenty. Also, Pipe's victim had witnesses. The only 'witness' (Clayton Macdonald) in the Ched Evans case says no crime was committed....
