He's far too good for 3rd tier football. Thought he would be back in the championship next season anyway with Wigan but if he gets there sooner in a decent team with Welsh connections then all the better. It could be a really good fit. I've watched a lot of the Blades this season in trying to get a glimpse at Brooks. It seems to me that their Achilles heel is that they are weak at defensive mid, so there is an opportunity there. At the same time he'll be surrounded by talent in other parts of team which could bring out his best. My gripe with Lee as a young player is his inconsistency. But surely this is a syndrome of young players in general. He has a hell of a lot of game time on his CV now and it won't be surprising to see him go up a level now.

The Blades love a Welshman don't they. Best of luck to him, fingers crossed he gets some decent game time.

Lee Evans available for your viewing pleasure tonight as Sheff Utd take on Hull.
I’d like to see him given a chance alongside Allen in China so keen to find out how he does.

Has been a mainstay in the last few weeks for SU and had a decent 70 minutes tonight until subbed. Had a nice range of pin point diagonal passes, but seems a little nervous when faced with 1 on 1 pressure

Just scored an absolute worldy for Sheffield United apparently. And then goes on to get a second goal as well - assisted by Dai Brooks ;-) ... to be fair, he could have easily scored against Panama and China as well - he does not shy away from shooting from range ;-)

He's scored a 2nd.
Here's the goals. Both excellent finishes, the first is top, top drawer though. It'd win Welsh goal of the year so far...

Wow that was incredible. Is he good enough for the premier league? He is certainly on an upward curve. A sure thing for 'most improved player' this season I reckon. Still young enough to develop into a starter and we could see a midfield three of Allen, Ramsey and Evans for future games. J Williams and Huws have unfortunately gone backwards through no fault of their own but we can't wait forever.

Bloody nora, what a strike! Great technique! Both goals fantastic too. If Ronaldo score that volley it'd be headline news.
Got to be the most improved Welsh player over the last 12 months.

Bloody nora, what a strike! Great technique! Both goals fantastic too. If Ronaldo score that volley it'd be headline news. Got to be the most improved Welsh player over the last 12 months. Lee has always had these long range screamer in his locker and only seems to score long range screamers. Spot on regarding his progress. I have to admit I wasn't expecting this level of progression. Timely given the retirement of Edwards, the inevitable winding down of Ledley and the frustrating realisation that Huws looks to be heading toward the Collison route, sadly. And Louis Thompson nowhere in sight either. Giggs's priority must be to get Evans caps whenever he is available now. We need as much depth as possible with our deeper lying central midfielders moving forward. So it's great timing for us that Evans seems to have found the perfect club for him, where he is obviously appreciated. I will say, I've made a point of trying to watch Evans (and Brooks) whenever televised and he still has a way to go and I would like to see him upping his consistency and his influence on games in regard to tempo setting etc. But there's no reason why he can't achieve this and we should be confident he can become a solid and dependable player as he accumulates game experience.

Evans has been great for us since we lost our most influential midfielder (Paul Coutts). He's slotted in a played at the base of the midfield, keeps the the ball ticking over and is the key link between defence and the attacking third.
Those screamers have been coming, although he does have a habit of missing much (much) simpler chances!
Brooks has been up and down, as you'd expect at his age. But you can tell with the more game time he's getting he becoming more rounded as a player.
Good times for the Welsh players at United.

I think I've seen your username on the Blades forum when I had a peek there. Any thoughts on Kieron Freeman? I gather he is back from injury now. Has he a chance to break back into your side at any point? Also have you had a chance to see anything of your youth player Rhys Norrington-Davies? He played for the Welsh u21s this season and I thought he was one bright spot in what turned out to be a poor team performance. I wondered why Swansea had let him go...

We always seem to have had decent Welsh representation. Anyway, Freeman - not sure where he his in regards to fitness, this time last year I couldn’t imagine a team without him in and when he got injured we were all concerned, however the performances of a Baldock have been immense and I think that has allowed Freeman to come back in his own time . When he is ready the manager has a major call to make! Freeman got double figures from wing back last season and was in the form of his life. Fingers crossed he gets back to that level soon. RND is not someone I have seen yet but has made the bench in the FA Cup recently and by all accounts he is THE one to watch in our youth team.

Welcome to the board.
Good to see Evans getting the recognition he deserves. I can see him playing at a higher level again within two years, hopefully with The Blades and the rest of their Welsh contingent.

Evans' target must be to add real consistency to his game and do some of the simple things (pass options, decision making) better more often. But if he did all those things now he wouldn't be playing for Sheffield United. Exciting talent and looks to be heading only in on direction. In a few seasons time Wales could hit upon a golden generation the way its going.

Talk in Newport youth football was that Lee wasn’t picked up by any academy and continued to play for Lliswerry until he was 16/17 before anyone realised he was quite good.
Can anyone confirm this?

Lee Evans accepts he could be a marked man at the Riverside tonight, following his goalscoring exploits against Middlesbrough last season. www.thestar.co.uk/sport/sheffield-united-lee-evans-accepts-he-could-be-singled-out-for-special-treatment-at-middlesbrough-tonight-1-9288388The Sheffield United midfielder produced two superb finishes, one of which was later nominated for several awards, when the two clubs met at Bramall Lane in April. With those strikes still fresh in the memories of Tony Pulis' players, Evans said: "If a member of the opposition had done that against us I'd be thinking 'you can't do that again, surely?' Joking aside, you are wary of it and I'm sure they will have watched clips of us from Saturday, just as we have of them, and doing their analysis. We will be wary of their threats, as they've got plenty, and they will be wary of our threats because we've got plenty too." Although the timing of his team's visit to the North-East has upset Wilder - it was originally scheduled to take place on August 21 - the decision to reschedule at least provides them with an early opportunity to exorcise the ghosts of last weekend's defeat by Swansea City. Despite acknowledging that losing the first match of a new season is far from ideal - "Maybe it brings a little extra pressure" - Evans insisted the result will have no bearing on United's approach against a team managed by his fellow Newportonian. "The two games last year were close and I don't see much difference this year," Evans continued. "We have got to make sure we do the basics right and defend well as we know at some point in the game, we are going to come under pressure being away at Middlesbrough. The two managers are quite similar, I think. "Tony Pulis is a massive name back in Newport," Evans added. "Hopefully, one day, I can be as big a name as him down there. He has had an unbelievable managerial career with what he did at Stoke for so long and now he is trying to get Middlesbrough back in the Premier League. He is one that people know about." Evans, aged 24, highlighted the similarities between Pulis' methods and those Wilder employs behind the scenes. Middlesbrough, who drew with Millwall three days ago, possess more financial muscle than United but still emphasise the important of organisation combined with hard work. "I think the fundamentals of all good teams is effort and doing all the basics well," he said. "The difference between the top teams is that little bit of quality in the final third and defensive third. Every team is built on working hard with a good shape and both teams will be the same. If we really put it all together, I am sure we will do well again this year."
