This could be an absolute boon for us - without question he should be capped against Finland. With it being not sure whether Ashley Williams is going to be available come Finland he has to be asked.

Paul Dummett starting at CB against sunderland. "Strong player, strong mentality, and a really good left foot."

Didn't have the best game but he is going to be a top player, great future ahead of him. Had it tough today as Sunerland were putting X10 times more pressure that they usually would.

David Vaughan wasn't even on the bench for Sunderland.

Out of interest, does a cap in an international friendly tie him down to us anyway?
Appreciate that he will see that Wales are committed to him and he will more likely than not have his chance in the Euro 2016 qualifiers etc etc, but if England came sniffing round next summer could he still jump ship?

I don' think even england would sink that low. If they did and Dummett accepted, having been capped, then I would gladly lose him.

Only caps gained in a competitive qualifying match ties players to a national team.
That's why Joel Lynch is not yet tied to Wales yet.

Spain have just made use of the 'friendly cap' rule. Diego Costa - an Athletico Madrid player from Brazil

I'm hoping the expansion of the euros, and the increased chance of qualification, will sway some players our way.
Rightly or wrongly I'm sure some dual qualified players have previously said no to Wales based on their perception of our chances of qualification.
I always remember picking up the Western Mail on the morning of the Romania game in 93, and reading how 2 players had committed to Wales. One name escapes me but one was Ryan Jones of Sheffield Wed, who was quite a promising youngster, until a serious injury curtailed his career. The fact we were on the verge of World Cup qualification was I suspect no coincidence.
It will be interesting to see whether the expansion has any bearing on players choosing Wales. At the end of the day England can only take 23 players to a tournament.

Wonder if David Jones (now at Burnley) would declare for Wales if we look like qualifying?! It would be great cos then we could tell him to fuck off.

Spain have just made use of the 'friendly cap' rule. Diego Costa - an Athletico Madrid player from Brazil Apparently Brazil are pretty annoyed about it too, trying to take it as far as stripping him of his Brazilian citizenship! Why the hell didn't they cap him competitively then? He's 25 now for gods sake. Thats quite old for a player of his caliber not to have been capped in a competitive match, and only 2 caps altogether for Brazil? Weird.

Is in the squad for Netherlands match!!
Good news - two more Premier League central defenders.
Thought he reclined before though!!

This is really great news - the best from the squad announcement. He's a left back really though isn't he?
Hope James Collins is only being rested!

Never mind Ramsey, etc being rested. As long as Collins is still game for Wales, then we have had great news over the last fortnight. Before last week, we had 3 aging central defenders and no one to replace them!
Now we have Chester (25) and Drummett (22), who I understand has played centre back and who many believe will play there in the future? He is over 6ft too I understand.

Well fuck me. I wonder what's changed? The cynic in me thinks he reckons we now have a.chance with Bale and Ramsey both making headlines and a favourable draw for the euros.
Does this and the news about Chester suggest that the deck is now in our favour and we should be pulling out the stops to recruit players? There must be a striker we can rope in?

I honestly never saw anything at the time with direct quotes about him not wanting to play for us - any links I haven't seen?
Either way, good news hopefully.

Of course, playing against Holland wouldn't tie him down to us so maybe not much has changed

If Paul Dummett has now committed to Wales it is another positive. I hope he enjoys the experience in Holland and is a big part of the qualifying campaign.

Of course, playing against Holland wouldn't tie him down to us so maybe not much has changed Why is that? I thought there was still a gentlemens' agreement across the Home Nations, which meant if they played in a friendly then they could not play for any of the others. Wasn't that an issue with Collison?

A gentlemens' agreement carries very little weight. All it takes is one party wanting to break it and that's it

Pleased with this as i've been backing him to play for Wales for a while.
What we heard on this forum through word of mouth was that he had been "keeping his options open". He is no doubt keeping those options under review has remained in contact with Coleman.

"Welsh defender Paul Dummett has been the target of death threats from Uruguay fans who blame him for putting Luis Suarez's World Cup chances in jeopardy.
One fan took to social networking to warn "a bullet" would be waiting for Dummett if he ever visited Uruguay."
That explains why our friendly in Uruguay never got off the ground.
If there's a player called Paul Drummett or Saul Bummett in the Northern Ireland squad he better watch out for any angry, illiterate Uruguayans when they play down there

Odd that Dummett hasn't Tweeted the amazing news that he's about to become an international...

To be fair if I was receiving death threats the least of my worries would be twitter.

Odd that Dummett hasn't Tweeted the amazing news that he's about to become an international... Well it's not his first call up to the senior squad. But I guess we all want to hear about his commitment.

Quoted him in the western mail a few days ago saying something like "I'm a Welshman now I've dedicated myself to the Welsh national team" when asked about England's chances in the WC.
