That's showing great commitment to the cause, as I don't think any of us would have blamed him if he retired from international football to focus on getting fully fit. We don't pay his wages. Get fit soon James!

Disclaimer before I start, I am a Villa season ticket holder.
I think it's pretty rough to blame Villa, this unfortunate situation comes down to one individual...Steve Bruce. Bruce was well aware of James' injury status and did not buy any cover in that position in the summer window and we started the season with 2 recognised CB's Chester & Tuanzebe, he continued to play him in every game & competition.
When Dean Smith came in he wanted to rest James up but because we were down to 1 fit CB (Tuanzebe injured) he had to play him, we even played Hutton & jedinak alongside him. Once January came along we got Mings on loan and then when Tuanzebe came back we could get Chester out of the team and attended to.
This is not the club, trust me we missed him! It is the incompetence and negligence of Steve Bruce that has damaged James Chester for club & country.

Would be great to have him back for the double header next month, perhaps coming a little too early for him to figure in both?

If he and Ash can get a handful of games before october 10th, my back 4 against Slovakia would be: Roberts Chester Williams Davies. Mepham and Rodon aren't bad alternatives though.

Why would you want Williams and Chester back in?
Mepham and Rodon are the future pairing, but they'll only reach their potential by playing games, and playing together.

After Azerbaijan and Belarus, my preferred CB pairing would be Chester and Rodon.

DS reporting today that James played 60' for the U23. Great to see him back.

Got 70 minutes under his belt for the u23s the other day.
Villa have a Cup game coming up against Wolves, hopefully Chester will be involved. Such a classy player, I'd love to see him in a Wales shirt again.

Found this via an article dragon soccer shared:
Smith admitted the knee problem is one Chester must continue to manage. The Wales international has undergone no surgery, but did have fluid drained from the knee during the summer.
“It’s been difficult for James, but in my eyes he’s still the club captain,” said Smith. “Once he gets himself back to full fitness and back into the team, he’ll grab that armband back off Jack (Grealish).

I love the man! If he can get good game time, a Chester-Rodon partnership COULD be class.
Roberts Chester Rodon Davies . Yes please!

I think because of this injury we're unlikely to ever see the best of him again, I hope he proves me wrong though!

I can't see how he'll get the gametime needed to prove his fitness and gain form and sharpness. Aston Villa have been reasonably solid with mings and engels impressing. They're not secure in the premiership, so i can't see them risking chester in the league this season.

Taylor was trending on twitter - it was generally mocking of him as the worst player on the pitch despite liverpool having an average age of about 19. Harvey elliott gave him a tough time apparently. I think his confidence is shot and I would be concerned if we needed him to come in instead of davies at some point.

Your post is a bit contradictory though.
They can't be that solid, and mings and engels that impressive, given that they are only goal difference away from the relegation places.
It may be a case that Villa need Chester's experience, leadership, and quality in order to climb up the table.

Mings has been selected by England, such is the impression he's made, and engels has done well every time I've seen them. I don't think they're concerned about the quality of their CBs. They also have konsa on the bench who was one of the best young players in the championship last season. I obviously hope you're right, but I don't think Chester will get an opportunity to start a league game this season.

I think if you've conceded 30 goals in 17 games, your CB's can't be that great.
I hope he gets an opportunity before the end of the season.

Defending is always as a team, you can’t always blame the CB’s for goal conceded if the shape in front of them isn’t good. CB’s can only do so much. That’s not to say someone can’t come into a team and make a big difference (e.g Van Dijk), but usually in those cases the team is already a good defensive unit (like Liverpool were). I haven’t seen much of Villa this season yet, but I’d be surprised if Chester got many starts all things considered.

Taylor was having a terrific season up until the October international break... and then just disappeared off the radar. I hope it is not any personal / family issues.
Only saw the last 10 minutes of the game.
