All, you question the attitude of Collins but no one has questioned why Chester has waited until he is 25 to opt to play for us. Dis his Mum just tell him he was welsh. Because he is English and naturally wanted to play for the country of his birth. He's obviously decided he hasn't got a chance and will settle for Wales. He owes our national team absolutely nothing until he puts that red shirt and when he does we should demand 100% commitment to the cause which all of our English contingent give and I expect Chester will too. I would also argue that by increasing his number of games a season for the sake of a team with no qualification pedigree he is giving a great indication of commitment. He could have stayed schtum and just taken the lack of an England cap on the chin. Instead he has decided that he wants to play whatever international football he can get his hands on and that is admirable. At this point in time I would say that Chester offers us more than what we offer in return. Its a gamble that will pay off for him should we qualify.

I like this. I do admire how he's decided to declare himself available at the start of this campaign nice and early rather than this time next year when we may look like we are going to qualify. Plus also like the fact he's not targeting a place in the Welsh starting 11 for any old game but at the Euros itself.

Interesting how he says that this is the strongest squad for a while, can either take that to mean that he has a knowledge of recent Welsh footballing history which is obviously good or infer that he is signing up as he expects us to have a good crack at it.
Either way he probably doesn't deserve to have his words dissected so I shall let his football do his talking for him.

I doubt he will play in Holland, but if he does and plays well he will be pushing Collins hard for a place in the team.

The reason I don't think he will play is because of his injury problems being similar to Bale & Ramsey's season
Coleman is quoted as saying that they look after all the players so won't risk him breaking down.
If he does play it will show a clear intent from the player that he won't let Mr Potato Head dictate to him.
MY guess is we will ear how desperate he was to play but how Coleman didn't want to take any chances
As for who plays, probably Gunter at centre half and Dummett at right back (with Richards playing half a game instead of one of them)

He's said he wants to play in this game to try and get a place in the starting 11 for Euro 2016, good man!!

Yeah, I thought it was favourable. My only slight concern was the comment about not wanting to sit on the bench; I mean it's a great sentiment and shows determination to do well, so maybe it's Welsh/international fan paranoia but it also kind of sounds like a veiled threat. Hopefully not though

Yeah, there's a slight concern here with all the talk of 'starting' and 'not sitting on the bench' that goes through my mind: has Coleman said to Chester that he will be considered a starter as part of the deal to get him on board? Thus allowing Coleman to demote James Collins, whom he obviously clashes with? This would be a worrying mistake.

He'll be a certain starter for the foreseeable future anyway. Hopefully Collins accepts it rather than retire or pull out all the time.

I am in no doubt that Coleman was genuine when he sang Collin's praises after the Macedonia & Belgium games.

I'd like to praise Chris Coleman on the excellent work he did to persuade James Chester to join up with Wales.
JAMES CHESTER:
"Since Chris Coleman took over he's been ringing me."
"With the injuries I had last season, my debut (against Holland in June) came a bit later than I'd have liked but the time of my career is right."
Well done Cookie for convincing him to play for Wales!

Since becoming "Welsh" what a time he's had.
Scored a goal in the FA CUP final then the next game played or Wales...then scored the winner in a prem league game but also gave away a penalty in that game and now in the second game of the season he has a straight red card. What a four games!

What's the verdict?
I've got to say, for all the talk that Collins would be a big miss I thought he earned his corn tonight.
At least one last ditch block to prevent a goal. A very good tackle that earned him a disgraceful booking. I reckon we have got a gem here. Whoever it was who unearthed him has earned a round on the house from us lot.
Having said that if we want to play 3 at the back it means we need more CBs, MOAR!
Lastly, is it me and conspiracy theories or does it seem like Bruce has tried to have the last laugh on us for playing him v Holland by undermining him at Hull by bringing in Dawson? Smacks a bit of: "Oh well, if he's gonna play international football and wreck his body I'll make him a squad player".
Either way, I was so chuffed to have him on board tonight. Good on the lad, hope he gets his plane to France.

As I said in another thread, he was my MOTM. Of course, I accept why most would say Hennessey and others would prefer Ledley or Joniesta but Chester really surprised me this evening.

A great addition to the squad. He is decent on the ball too.... Three centre halves seemed to work...i think Ash Williams is the glue to hold them together...Davies was slightly dodgy as times....as to other centre backs??? We have Collins,Nyatanga playing in Lge1 with Barnsley. Craig Morgan,Captain at Rotherham,& he would do ok in a man marking role in a back three. And Lynch who time & time again is overlooked, whether its his choice or Colemans i dont know.

He was exactly what we needed at exactly the right time. Collins certainly wouldn't fit into this back 3 as well as he has.

I thought Chesters booking tonight all but confirmed that Collins will be required at some point. Most likely alongside Gunter (Williams has never formed a good partnership with him and Williamds is now also on a yellow). We will need every player available to us for this campaign so as much as Coleman earns the plaudits tonight for his formation and selection he will need to keep everyone on side. As much as I am loath to say it Collins will be very important to us, most likely in a crucial game that we do not see coming. He needs to make sure that each player knows his role and is ready to give their all for a finals thy may not get to play in. I don't envy him.

Nyatanga always looked comfortable as the left of 3 CBs. In a pair he looked like a disaster waiting to happen. He was excellent against the Czech Republic in Teplice and against Brazil at White Hart Lane. He's been away from the international scene for a while but is an option in the squad.

Craig Morgan (captain at championship Rotherham now) also has experience of playing in a back 3 for Wales.

sorry - but why do we highlight the likes of Nyatanga and Morgan? They have not developed into good players and I hope I never see the day that we need to pick such players again. If that happens then we will be losing 2 to 3 nil at home to the likes of Bosnia again!
