So the racecourse is up to international standard then.

Wrexham has a larger capacity and there's a chance to expand interest in the women's game all over Wales with this. Isn't the pitch at RP crap too? I'd hope the fact that England away, Bosnia home and Russia away have all been broadcast live on television will already have helped to expand interest all over Wales. As Euro 2016 showed, the real way to expand interest is to qualify - then you get 2 million people across Wales watching. The pitch at Rodney Parade was re-laid in 2017 at a cost of £750,000.

Easy decision, Wrexham. Little to no reason to play the game at Rodney Parade. Except for the fact that Jayne Ludlow will keep same hotel, same training base, etc, if it's played in Newport. As I said above, Ludlow will choose wherever she thinks gives Wales the best chance to prepare.

Hardly a comparable situation. We finished 11 points behind England in that campaign, who won 10 out of 10 qualifiers. Wales had already lost 2-0 to England in front of just 5,000 at Millwall. We needed to beat England to have a chance of qualifying for the play-offs ... And even if we'd done that we still needed to travel to Kiev and win (we lost both matches). And even then we got a record crowd. This year's match is far more crucial for both nations. Since then England have reached the semi-finals of the World Cup; Jayne Ludlow one of the best ever Welsh players and a UEFA Cup winner with Arsenal has taken over as our manager; Wales has hosted the UEFA Women's Champions League Final; Mark Sampson was sacked and replaced by Phil Neville; the England v Wales match at Southampton got a crowd of 25,000 with over 500 Wales fans attending; Wales are unbeaten and got a draw away to England; the last three Wales qualifiers have all been live on television; our captain has signed for one of the biggest clubs in Europe; and there is a far higher profile for the women's game in Wales.

Rugby's still played on there though isn't it? The league's out of season but there'll probably be friendlies played on there which would tear up the pitch. The real way to expand the game is to play it in different reaches of the country at this stage as you'll get girls from North Wales turning up to the match, sparking some new interest in playing the game. I do agree, however, that the best way of doing so is to qualify. Your point about the training base is a fair one, but I don't think that makes a whole lot of difference. The coaches would be able to familiarise themselves with Carden Park within a day and the facilities there are more than adequate.

Obviously the Newport base is key but I wouldn't be surprised if the choice of Newport might also be considered a plus BECAUSE of the poorness of the playing surface.

Wrexham would bring a good, hostile atmosphere, but there’s a bigger population in South Wales so surely there would be a better chance to sell out Rodney Parade?

I just think it probably makes more sense to play this particular game at Rodney Parade!

If not, the capacity is reduced to just shy of 5000. I think we could get more than that at Cae Ras.

If the venue is confirmed as Newport for the England Game, I would love to go but I wouldn't trek all the way to Wrexham.

If the venue is confirmed as Newport for the England Game, I would love to go but I wouldn't trek all the way to Wrexham. Likewise I wouldn't trek to Newport on a Friday after work from Wrexham. But seeing as Newport have already had a game, as have Swansea and Cardiff I feel it's only fair Wrexham gets one as well. We'd fill the Racecourse.

So of course, Rodney Parade gets the crucial womens world cup qualifier. Wrexham hasn't had a single game this campaign whereas the stadium with a smaller capacity and a shoddier pitch gets two. Beyond a joke now, FAW have fucked this one imo.

Maybe it was the choice of the players. They ultimately are the important ones here, where they feel most comfortable, is where they are likely to have more success.

Beyond a joke now, FAW have fucked this one imo. I understand that the main reason they couldn't pick the Racecourse is because the fixture list for the National League still hasn't been announced (it's due later this week) but today was the deadline for agreeing the venue for the Women's fixture as per UEFA rules. So they didn't have much choice as Wrexham could have been playing at home the same time/next day.

All parties knew well in advance when our fixture list is released as well as the deadline for deciding the venue. As far as I'm aware a fair few of the players wanted the game at the Racecourse as well.
Presumably it was either the FAW or us who have said no to it. Massive shame for all parties involved, barely any North Walians will be able to make that game due to it being a Friday and we haven't had a single game yet, disappointing.

Can't really blame the FAW for the National League not announcing fixtures yet

Hopefully we get the chance to bring a game or 2 to Wrexham in the next campaign, though if we fail to qualify for the WC I fear we might've missed our chance to grow the women's game up North.

Real kick in the nuts for Wrexham think they were just trying to pull the wool over the eyes of fans up North as they had no intention of taking the game there.
More money for the egg though

Being realistic I think it's unlikely we'll actually beat England wherever the game is played (although I'd love to be proved wrong!).
Maybe the FAW are looking at a potential playoff game to be played at Wrexham...

Tickets highly likely to sell out today.
Judging by the amount of England fans already chasing tickets on social media, I think the decision to opt for a smaller venue may prove to be a wise one. We could have ended up with England having 5 to 6,000 fans at a larger venue.
Funny how none of the England fans complaining about the allocation were complaining when Bosnia took their England home match to the training ground in Zenica.
