In the other first round path, the four group winners and two best-ranked runners-up in League B will be drawn into six ties against the remaining two runners-up and four third-placed teams in League B. The six winners progress to the second round.
In the second round, the teams from both paths come together and will be drawn into seven ties, with seeding for the seven highest-ranked teams based on the European Qualifiers overall league rankings. The seven winners progress to the final tournament.
So, if, as looks likely, we win our group we will play a second or third placed side from another League B group. If we win that encounter we may well face a League A side, one that finished third or second. I think we have a good chance of making it to the final play-off, and then we will be the underdogs, but with a decent chance.

If we make it to the final play-off match we will almost certainly play the two-legged tie away match against a 3rd or 4th placed League A side, with the second leg very likely to be away from home.

I think this is the likely outcome. The alternative being that we end up as the best B side and a League C side shocks a League A side.

Ukraine are ranked two places below us in 34th place in the World rankings. They are the next lowest of European nations.
Interesting side note, on the FIFA website New Zealand are now known as Aotearoa New Zealand. How long before we are known as either Cymru Wales, or simply Cymru?

Our next fixtures are a double header against Ukraine with first game in Llanelli on on 31/05/24, I believe.
It will be a lot easier to work out what's going on after that.

Croatia beat Ukraine 1 0 at home tonight. Based on the two performances to date we should comfortably top the group.

Switzerland included in the process because they won't be hosts next time so need to earn league position.
If we reach stage of meeting a League A side we are, wrth gwrs, in with a chance of facing Ireland, Poland or Belgium....

Got to aim to win every game in this group in my opinion given that Ukraine have lost to Croatia. Gives us the best chance at the playoffs

What a manager
Quotes from Ffion Morgan:
"I hope with my pace and my ability to get forward that she (Rhian Wilkinson) likes that. She gives me the confidence to get at people, I constantly hear her on the sideline pushing me up the field. That confidence is very helpful.
"Hopefully, I can keep this going and get some more opportunities."

I don't think we need to fear any side finishing 3rd or 4th if that's how it pans out and there are certainly some very beatable sides that are likely to finish in these positions. Obviously a favourable draw would be nice when it comes to it.

Most of the 4th placed A league sides will be around our calibre (e.g. Finland, Poland, Czechia, Iceland), but some of the 3rd placed sides will present stiff opposition. We could easily face a Sweden (in the same group as France, England and ROI), Belgium or Norway. So, we will need luck on our side come the draw.

Does dragonsoccer or anyone else know where Ukraine have said they will play our 4 June fixture? Their last one was played in Anatalya, which would be a pain to get to from (Free) Cyprus ... but if the boys don't make the final in Limassol, a stop-over could be done on route to Bratislava ;-)

Cymru losing 1-0 HT to Ukraine following terrible defending gifted Ukraine a goal after just 2 minutes.
Possession dominated by Cymru and they’ve had chances without taken any. But so many misplaced passes and very poor balls into the box from wide.
Ukraine look dangerous on the break and Cymru defence looks far from convincing.
We look the better side but could easily lose this. An early goal second half please.

FT Cymru 1 Ukraine 1.
Second half penalty for Wales rescues a draw.
Positives: - dominated possession - player for player looked better than Ukraine - a few neat passing moves - created chances
Negative - couldn’t breakdown Ukraine defence - passing poor - defence looked shaky - final ball often poor.
We would have struggled against a better team.

We would have struggled against a better team. Think a lot of the poor play comes from a couple of things - Lack of game time at their clubs. Man Utd have hardly played Evans or Ladd. Ladd looks like the shadow of the player she did last year. - Roberts is off here level before she moved to Spain - Jet lag? 3 of the Welsh women play in the US now. Having said that - James looks like a totally different player since she went back to the US - she looks fit, sharper and much more mobile Defence looks far too shaky and we need a bit more energy / mobility in the middle of the pitch. Given Ingle's advancing years is it time to move her back to central defence? Wales looked far more comfortable when she moved there today Holland and Rowe gave their typical energetic performances again today!

Long ball after long ball.

Absolutely awful in the final third tonight so far. Long ball after long ball. You keep hearing how talented we are supposed to be but totally toothless in attach. No incisive passing, little in accurate clinical passing/crossing and zero cutting edge. Ukraine over 2 matches look 10x more clinical in attack. We are so unlucky to lose our main two attacking threats to ACLs - Caine with her movement and the other for her goals How on earth are we going to break down a league A team if we struggle so much against Ukraine?

Final ball has let us down tonight. Poor decision making. James should have scored in the first minute and then Barton with a great heading opportunity.
Composure and better decision making needed second half. Need a big half from Fishlock.
Joel and Evans poor for the goal, both seemed to be running in treacle. Conditioning not as it should be?

In the modern world where you’re not allowed to say anything remotely critical, I’m just going to be blunt, this performance is sh1t.
I’m in my 50s & never played anything other than Sunday League, but even now I know I can pass better & control the ball better than these women.
All those years when the Welsh men never received any coverage & this bunch get wall to wall live coverage on BBC Wales.
Women’s Football is the Emperor’s New Clothes.

I didn't see the first half but first 5-10 mins of the second half have been good so far.
The problem with small groups leading to competitive play-offs is that there is less wiggle room if you slip below usual standards for one half plus.

Joel is out of her depth a bit, was poor in Llanelli as well.
Rowe for all the running is not an intelligent footballer, constantly loses the ball.
Ceri Holland is always left isolated down the wing with very little support.

Amazing strike from Jess. If she took both penalties (and scored) she would be outright top scorer now
