Lots of twists and turns to come in the last 2 games I think. Most of these predictors probably assume we'll get nothing from Belgium, failing to take into account that they'll have the group all wrapped up and potentially playing a slightly weaker team by then. Even if they don't field a weaker team, they won't be playing with the attitude that they need a result. So in the play offs, Cymru are quite likely to need to beat two of the top 6 seeded Play Off teams to qualify (one game definitely away). In that top group, maybe I'd choose Poland and Croatia / Scotland.
But as cymro said, surprises to come. Looking at England's group I today, Albania lead Poland by one point. It's Albania vs Poland later today. So if Albania win, they have a four point cushion with 2 games left. One of them games is at home to Andorra. So Poland would likely miss out altogether on play-offs if they lose tonight?

At present Scotland are drawing 0-0 away to the Faroe Islands. Their next game is away to Moldova who they scraped a 1-0 home win against. Their last game is at home to Denmark who I think will do enough to at least get a point. If we could have anyone I'd take Scotland because they can be taken apart by any side that can play.

At half time tonight there are many twists & turns left in many groups. Italy to not finish top for instance? Portugal? England?

Italy need to win their group if we are going through to the playoffs via the Nations League If Italy finish 2nd in their group, that still takes priority over NL PO so Italy would have to finish 3rd for that to be an issue.

Italy v Switzerland in a months time, I'd imagine they'd wrap things up that night before they go to Belfast.

I'm confused! I thought for us to miss out on a playoff via nations league place, 2 out of Italy, Belgium , France and Spain would have to finish 3rd in their current groups?

Exactly, it doesn’t make any sense otherwise because of Italy and Spain finish second they would have a play off place by default without needing a nations league place too.

No doubt the Scots will want Clarke sacked in the morning because they have failed to spank a minnow
In fact the result that stands out tonight is ROI battering Qatar. They have given us and Scotland a master class in how it’s done by achieving an aggregate of 7-0 in games against Azerbaijan and Qatar. Watch out for ROI at the World Cup, they will go far on this evidence 😉

Also, I would argue results like Azerbaijan and Qatar give a team a much needed confidence boost, whereas struggling to beat sides like Estonia doesn't. We look like a side that need a good confidence boosting win. Look at the buzz on the YBIG forum, when was the last time we had a few results to give fans that sort of feeling? Regardless of the opposition, ROI have put goals on poor teams, we didn't. Not sure we're in any position to mock tbh. Let's not forget we were lucky to draw with them away in the Nations League.

Scotland result is so annoying,
They are on track for a home play off.
They are grinding out results - they beat Austria away, despite us having a far better opportunity versus the Czechs we don't take our changes and self destruct. They get over the line tonight, we blow it versus Estonia at home. They also have a an Australian putting the ball in the net for them!
The worst thing for me is how disorganised as a team we are. Watching Hungary tonight - they run back and quickly form two parallel lines in front of the goal immediately. Compare that to our central defence and midfield all over the shop versus Estonia in that second half. Page and Symmons were central defenders - what the @@@@ are they coaching them? They just sprint or jog back towards goal and don't seem to form the layers you need. Can't Osian go in as a consultant? This is schoolboy stuff and its not as if Rodon, Ampadu, Mepham, Allen, Robert and co are terrible players.
Its not good enough to give it a lash. Being organised helps you get qualified.

Their next meaningful match isn’t until the Nations League kicks off in June, by which time the ‘buzz’ from beating Azerbaijan & Qatar won’t be so tangible.

Results like that are good for building up morale in a superficial sense, if you have sod all else recently to be proud of, like ROI. If they played us tomorrow how much would their experience of humping Azerbaijan help them against us? It would maybe give them a few vinegar strokes for the first ten minutes but they would soon know they were in a game and that it won’t be that easy for them. Again dai I think you are coming across like the rabbits in the Animals of Farthing wood (“don’t panic! Don’t panic!”) if you fear the Republic of Ireland. It can’t be good for your enjoyment of the game in a general sense! If ybig are getting carried away about beating Qatar and Azerbaijan then good for them I guess, they’ve set a pretty low bar though. I’d rather have a 1-0 win over Estonia and be sitting in a good place to get in the play off. Look on pie and bovril, are the Scots quaking in their boots at ROI and feeling like their place at the top table is threatened because they spawned a jammy win over the faeroes? Like fun they are! They are revelling in how shit their win was. Be more like the jocks dai fgs 😂 life must be so much better when you put some faith in your team and let everyone else worry about you.

I think you're doing ROI a disservice though. The Nations League game in Ireland was particularly close, and if we are to be honest with ourselves, Ireland probably edged it, and deserved the win. We only barely beat them at home in a god awful game of football. And yes, they've had some shit results recently, but they are a team in ascendency, that's obvious. Fuck it, I'm going to call it now - they will beat Portugal at home. They have probably improved as a team more than what we have over the last few years.

So am I right in thinking that effectively Scotland have 14 points as the win against Moldova will not count. So even if they beat Moldova again they will still only be on 14. Then if they lose to Denmark they will still be in 14.
If we beat Belarus and overhaul the Czechs we will be on 14.
So how come Scotland seem to be in group A home play off and we are in Group B play off when potentially our records could be the same.
Or have I read this all wrong.
Confused from North Wales.

In that case compare us with Scotland then because I’m not having it that their results are any better than ours. We have taken 4 points off the Czechs either side of them beating Scotland. Their result tonight shows how easy it can be to struggle against a minnow nation. To invert your point about ROI if Scotland took a result like that too much to heart in the way that you have with Estonia they would be sat in the dressing room feeling like they have lost right now- how would that help them with a game against Moldova to come to seal a play off place? I’ll keep an eye out for the ROI’s final qualifiers now, I guess if Portugal have already qualified they will rest Ronaldo and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility the ROI could win.

This is the one time I want them to just qualify outright….but I’m just going by what was said on 5 live last night. They mentioned that Poland had scored against Albania and that if Poland were to win then England were still not qualified and that it was in the balance. I guess that their game against San Marino effectively being a dead rubber (in that they won’t drop points) means they are actually through….

Can anybody offer any clarification on this? So my take from what I've read is that 6 seeded teams are decided by 2nd place teams'points and then goal difference ( with games against last place team ignored for the group's with 6 teams). So yes, if Moldova finish bottom and Denmark beat Scotland, latter would have 14 points in effect. Scotland goal diff is currently +5 and ours is +1. So if we finish with 14, we'd have to overhaul that 4 goal difference to be above the Scots. However, that only applies if we finish 2nd and unless we get 15 points we're dependent on Estonia taking a point or more against Czechia.

How can you not see that?? You can't honestly want us to swap positions with them. I literally don't believe you're being genuine if you do. You really want us to be completely out of the picture for qualification already? Just to see us score a couple of more goals in a single game, where all that really matters is a win anyway?
