I am not his biggest fan but everyone would agree Page messed up big time versus Estonia. As I said at the time Brennan should have been brought on not Joniesta when Wilson went off. As said we would probably have a home play off assuming we beat Belarus tonight if he had not screwed up. Then that surprise Czech game - we should have beaten them but for errors As for our potential play off opponents: Home: Serbia 🇷🇸 - If we were Scotland then I'd probably fancy us but we always seem to have a mistake in us when we play them and they were there for the taking in our last WC campaign but we managed to screw up. Away from home - can't see us winning. Sweden 🇸🇪 - Should be beatable but we always struggle against their athleticism. They will be far better coached than us too. Away from home - can't see us winning, Croatia 🇭🇷 - As above. Again beatable on paper but .... Switzerland 🇨🇭 - After seeing how they are playing and coached - no chance Poland 🇵🇱 - They have been poor for the last 35 years but we always play extremely poorly against them. They should be beatable / are worse than the Czech Republic in my opinion but their star striker would probably have a field day against us/ Scotland 🏴. They are just solid aren't they? They would not concede some of the pathetic goals we have. More beatable than most of the others and how I would love to get revenge for the past. However, they would be favourites at Hampden Away: Norway 🇳🇴 Can't see our defence doing well against Harland. We would simply have to score more than them but they are well drilled. North Macedonia 🇲🇰 Yes please but would not be the walk over many expect Ukraine 🇺🇦 Beatable Austria 🇦🇹 Very beatable. If their players turn up with fight in their belly then a difficult game Czech Republic 🇨🇿 We can do it but no walkover WE MUST GET A HOME DRAW. The problem is our weakness is our coaching and that is where I fear we may fall down Agree with most of that. Bar overestimating the Norwegians. Haaland &co choked against the Serbs just over twelve months ago.

The table here on wiki makes it clear. We can get in with just a win against Belarus as it stands, but we would need to beat Belarus by a big margin & hope Denmark beat Scotland by a few whilst we only lose by a minimal margin against Belgium Norway could gain goal difference and overtake both of us though in theory 4 points guarantees should be the realistic aim IMO en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA)The bottom half of that looks a lot nice than the top half! 4 points should be enough. Oh how we may rue those missed chances against Estonia

If all it takes to become a quality team is an away win in moldova then there are lots of quality teams out there, scotland are average at best,i mean c'mon. They had their one good win for this decade in austria,we would beat them easily.

So are we better off getting an away draw?? He's got it the wrong way round, we would be home to the lesser teams and away to the better teams. One thing going in our favour is that we'll know exactly what we need when the game starts. Apart from the Turkey group most others in the mix for the play offs will have been completed.

I just pasted the teams from this thread - home signalled teams that are currently in place for a home leg.
No confusion intended.
I did not realise we had a small chance of qualifying for a home play off with just one win. Hope the players know to go for Belarus' jugular if the opportunity presented itself! Of for an early goal! No more butchering a second minute opportunity as per Estonia Harry Wilson!

I think Scotland are being hyped up way more than they deserve. They would probably be slight favourites against us in Hampden, but they're really not that good. They're starting to get the pieces together with a decent keeper, a couple of excellent defenders and two young midfielders with lots of potential, but they're severely lacking any x factor further forward. They are by far the best away draw.

We were 1-0 up away against Belarus after only 5 mins & went into half time 2-1 down, so even early goals aren’t enough to continue the momentum sometimes.

Brennan hadn't played that well the game before against Belarus when he started. I think a better sub might have been Harris but there we are Players should have got the job done that day

My post above did sound a bit arrogant and i agree the games v scotland might well be tight, but i just think the few results they have had of late that seems to have turned them from a shambles to a supposed quality team flatter to decieve, even the faroes could have scored three a few games back, they are ok but no better than that, in my opnion of course. But if we don't draw them i hope they get to the world cup,i think the scots add something to a tourmament.

It's not so much the players. More the managers. I'd rather have Clarke than Page. He'll suss us out in a second. Estonia did.

Give me Scotland any day of the week. This is what I dislike about Welsh football, the back slapping always goes before the harsh reality. I recall our 10 minute window of opportunity against the Fins in our penultimate game to go top of the group for 2004 qualification and yet, admittedly with 10 men, we just went into our shells and didn’t look like we had any appetite to try and top the group and at the end of the game everyone in the stadium was cheering because we qualified for the poxy play off- look how that ended up. I can see it again now, all the back slapping for limping into the play offs and we’ll draw Italy or Spain away. We’ll be as good as out if that happens. I can’t help but feel we need our destiny as in our own hands as possible here. Let’s not be reliant on a kind tie because we’ll likely not get it. Home tie or bust imo. I just meant because Scotland are becoming an excellent team full of confidence that would be really tough to beat and I think there are far better draws It’s hard to evaluate their competitiveness. They’ve had a good campaign twice on the spin and yet, apart from the England game, were poor at the Euros. I suspect they would struggle against us at home in the same way that they did against the Czechs and Croatia because in front of their own fans when they are expected to get a result they just aren’t up to it. Away to England when they have nothing to lose and they can play a more natural game and look good. So I’d be confident that they would see us as an easy win and that hubris would spill from the stands to the team and they would struggle under the pressure. We have a bit more experience of late of winning pressure games and getting a job done and being away with less pressure would suit us even more so it would be a decent draw for us. Infinitely better than Spain or Italy or Switzerland away. That is of course predicated on us being able to pick from a full complement, which is probably naive as that rarely happens for us! One thing Scotland have highlighted for me is how over-joyed they are at qualifying for the Euros and reaching the play off this time round. It’s a golden era for them and yet when we achieve similar there is a large amount of rancour and recrimination about how shit our manager is. Dare I say it but I think we could all do with being a bit more Scotland 😜

I would not be confident of beating Scotland in Hampden at the moment. Don't get me wrong, if we end up unseeded with them seeded, you'd definitely take them, but it would be a tough game. They'd be marginal favourites at home and we'd probably be marginal favourites if we got them at home.
They've come through a competitive group to finish 2nd - can't take that away from them. I'd say on paper it's as close as it's been between us for a good few years.

These are the current standings, at the moment if we're not seeded it's Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Croatia, Poland or Scotland away in the first leg It's not looking likely Italy or Spain will be in the mix now. Either way VERY unlikely that we will end up with 2 kind draws. We're going to have a tough game at some point, but let's do our best to make the 1st one at home against one of the teams in the bottom list There's quite a lot of conjecture in those predictions - look at the Macedonian/Romanian contest or the Ukraine/Finland/Bosnia-H group - you can't say with any certainty who would be the second placed teams in those groups at the moment. For example North Macedonia have a home game with Iceland in their final game while Romania travel to Liechtenstein - I'd say Romania will win that game but there's a good chance of Iceland getting at least a point if they're up the game. Ukraine/Finland/B/H is even tougher to call, it's a three-way knife-edge contest, and imo, I would much rather be facing Finland or Bosnia-Herzogovina in a play-off than Ukraine. Also I think Turkey can realistically overhaul Norway and a couple of others too - don't take that list as in any way read. Going off that list, which is very much conjecture, luck of the draw would still be a major factor. The easiest draws would be in the unseeded half, but I think I'd probably rather Serbia, Scotland, Sweden from the seeded half than Ukraine or maybe Norway. Unless you get N Macedonia or Switzerland/Poland there's probably not a massive difference.

People are getting carried away with Scotland, they were rubbish at the Euros and they've hardly set the World on the fire in World Cup qualifying, if we're full strength I'd back us to walk into Hampden Park and beat them.

We failed to beat Estonia in Cardiff and got battered by Denmark in the last 16 of the Euros. Have you looked at our recent form?

I don't think that really has any bearing now though. They're a better side. Took them a while to get going under Clarke, but they're a very solid team now albeit still chronically lacking a top goalscorer.

I'd back us in a one off with Scotland anywhere in the World, full strength. Roberts going off against Denmark really messed things up and Estonia was bad but just one of those nights. Scotland are getting massively hyped at the moment, they're on the up but they're still the same team that were comfortably beaten by sides we've drawn and beaten, within the last two years, at the Euros.

Scotland are getting massively hyped at the moment, they're on the up but they're still the same team that were comfortably beaten by sides we've drawn and beaten, within the last two years, at the Euros. I would say it would be more or less 50-50 for the following reasons: 1. In recent times we have not been at full strength very often. How often are Bale and Ramsey both fit? What about Wilson, Brooks, Ampadu, Moore, James, Davies, Allen? All players for whom we don't have like for like replacements. 2. Scotland may lack top talent but they have more depth than we do, they have solid lower PL/upper Championship level players across the squad. 3. They have become much hardier defensively in recent times. Compare this campaign to the previous Euros one. It's an easier group than Belgium and Russia of course but they've not shipped 3 goals in any game, as far as I'm aware. I would definitely take them if we ended up unseeded but for me they aren't any easier than Serbia or Sweden. Too many people of young generations of Wales fans remember the 4-0 and 3-0 victories against Scotland and the 2010s; they don't remember the mid/late 90s when Scotland were a better team than Wales. I think the recent games against them have clouded some people's judgement when it comes to looking at their team now versus our team now.

I think Che Adams is a good enough striker for them, I'd have him in this Welsh team happily if he were eligible. He scored for them last night and he's just a decent top flight striker now - which is more than what we have in terms of level even tho Kieffer is very effective for us

10 man Finland beating Bosnia & H 3-1. Finland still up against it because a last game with France. That win is a double edged sword. It knocks B/H out of it, thus potentially affecting their motivation for their final game against Ukraine. But I would say Finland have given themselves a decent chance. I would say there's still a decent chance that Bosnia-H - Ukraine ends in at least a draw.

Just found out that Wales can play Czechs in the play off. I thought differently. Ukraine can’t play Russia. That’s the only exception. Czechs at home I wouldn’t fancy. Too familiar

wouldn't be ultra confident with the czechs but it would be a 50-50,that game away was weird, how they gave us so much room,if they do that again they are done, something tells me they won't,that was a weird gam in my opinion.
