Disappointing. And I'm not buying all this nonsense that he's mistake prone etc. How many GLARING mistakes has he actually done while playing for us? Not that many.
34 is a young age to retire when you're playing for a country the size of Wales. You hear of many internationals playing for countries well into their late 30's.

I think the door is sufficiently ajar that a change of heart could well happen down the line - especially if we qualify for the Euros, or have a chance of qualifying. Dai is right that centre halves can play into their late thirties so I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull on a Welsh shirt again.

He never plays, and has a young family. He knows he probably won't be around for Euro2020

He's hardly a regular and him stepping aside means the coaching staff HAVE to bring through some new blood into the squad, he'd be 36 by the time EURO 2020 comes around

Thank-you James Collins for your service to Wales. I know he gets a lot of stick but especially when I have seen him against Palace he has been immense.

From the big man's instagram account:
gingercollins19From the first time I pulled on the Wales shirt as a 14 year old boy till today it has been one of my proudest moments in football, Played with great players and for fantastic managers and they gave me a chance to challenge myself against the worlds best... but the time has come to step aside to let the younger lads take our great country forward and to great things... it’s been a difficult decision to come to, to leave behind such a amazing set of lads and a top manager in Chris Coleman and all his staff, but feel the time is right!! I’d like to thank the gaffa, his staff and the lads for giving me the best time of my life at the Euros last year, it’s a time myself and my family will never forget Thank You!! I’d also like to thank the truly amazing welsh fans who supported myself and the team through thick and thin over the years we couldn’t have achieved what we have without your support Thank You!! I’d like to thank everyone at @fawales for your help over the years Thank You!! I’ll always be there to support our great country ❤️❤️❤️ Diolch yn fawr iawn ❤️❤️❤️ Together Stronger Ginge xx

Utter classless from West Ham! Never been his biggest fan, but on his day, a solid and reliable defender that leaves it all on the pitch. Back to Cardiff potentially?

He's ex-Cardiff, came through the youth system, available on a free, has Premier League experience which Cardiff need following promotion and is unlikely to get higher offers It makes perfect sense that Collins is linked with Cardiff

Disgraceful how they treated him after being there through thick and thin with them. Not even to have the balls to say it to his face, real lack of class! And i echo others, would be a great signing for Cardiff, plenty of experience, lack of a transfer fee, means they can use that elsewhere, i think they would be wise to look at players like this (also fits their philosophy). Not sure what jbt95's point is really, most players will be linked with Cardiff as most players we talk about are Welsh and and Cardiff is one of the two big Welsh clubs - plus hes a former bluebird.

A move to Cardiff as a player/coach would be good all round. Not sure if he'd starf for Cardiff though as CB is the one position where they excel and have more than enough PL quality imo

Classless from West Ham
Collins would be a starter for Cardiff given his premier league experience.
Not convinced centre halves they have will be good enough next season.
