im with you storm...even if everyone else are being pedantic This place is pedant central so its par for the course! I kind of agree with you, we should cap on merit. But I dont like our desperation to cap this lad when nobody has heard what he has to say or how he feels about it. A few good reviews for Palace and all of a sudden hes the next Messi and has to be capped at all costs whether the lad himself wants to or not. Its a bit sad really.

^ I agree with this, Storm
I spoke to Jonathan Williams prior to the Switzerland match and he was delighted to be involved with the senior set up, saying it was an ideal birthday present - he was 18 on the Sunday.
I really doubt he will look elsewhere even if approached (which is doubtful in itself).

Joniesta will play for wales for many years according to his palace manager and is a product of the faw youth sceme or something along them lines, he has played for us at various youth levels so I presume he feels welsh to

i agree we should only cap on merit(tho some might argue that england capping hargreaves after only a few first team games for bayern was to stop him from playing for anyone else) but at the same time, a five minute cap against the switz would have put an end to the rumours and we would avoid a collison style 'he is only pretending to want to play for us and he is only turning up for training camps and friendlys and will fake injury on the day of a competitive game so he can keep up the pretense'

Doesnt sound like he wants to play for England and we have it from the horses mouth that he considers himself Welsh. Thats good enough for me. Lets just hope he fulfills the potential, I wont be holding my breath on that score though seeing how many times we have been here before.

I believe it. No1 knows if he thinks of himself as welsh or wenglish! He might have told speed he can't play if England were messaging him then.

He has every right to accept an invitation from Wales, have a look at the set up and decide at a later date if he wants to accept future invitations or not. And then decide if he wants to opt for England.
He'll be lambasted on here, but he has the right.

I think if he decides to throw his lot in with England after witnessing at first hand the last two Wales performances and the quality of the young players we have (and the style of football we play) then he probably lacks the intelligence, and heart, to be good international footballer anyway.
I'd be totally and utterly amazed if he decides to opt for England. With Rhys Williams it wasn't actually much of a surprise.

Jesus, stop perpetuating this myth that he is considering his options!
This is based on what exactly? A few crank postings on here??
Welshorp, you really need to get a grip on reality!

Quite right, blogdroed. Until Williams is quoted as saying, 'I'm considering my options', there is absolutely nothing to talk about.
If he was 'considering his options', he wouldn't have accepted the call up to the squad.

I heard last night at the match from a fellow Palace fan that his dad is Welsh and represented Wales in his youth, so it is not the same as was the case with Collison who qualified via his grandfather

there is absolutely nothing in that mirror article. NOTHING. If there was a quote from somebody- Sturt Pearce, Dougie Freeman, Williams himself, his dad etc- then maybe there would be something to talk about, but there's NOTHING. Not even the name of the 'journalist' who wrote it!

Well prepare for the worst hope for the best is all I'm doing. I just think speed is clever enough to know give him 5 mins and make him welsh but I honestly think the choice was taking from him

Oh for God's sake, get a grip, man.
So in your little world Speed tells Williams: "you're in the squad lad" only for the youngster to turn round and say "actually I'm keeping my options open because England have been texting me". Speed then says "no worries, Jonathan ... hey, fancy a trip to Sofia anyway?"
FFS - get yourself a reality check!
Admin, lock this thread before this nonsense gets out of hand!

Why is it winding me up? Because it's a 'story' based on nothing but a few crank postings and an unattributed quoteless 'article' yet it's being given credence and the poor lad is even coming clse to being lambasted for his 'stance' ...
It's bollocks yet some posters will believe any half baked internet rumour and it will run and run ... that's why!

It's bollocks yet some posters will believe any half baked internet rumour and it will run and run ... that's why! I can understand both sides, especially with the Rhys Williams debacle. Currently its a non story though, based on nothing except for the fact that he is still eligable to play for another team. There's no substance to the story. I will say this though - a few of us sneaked into the Vasil Levski stadium for the Welsh teams warm up on the Monday before the Bulgaria game, and I specifically watched Williams. He seemed to be loving it, a smile on his face throughout. As there weren't many in there you could hear everything being said, and although he was quiet (understandably so), he seemed to be getting on great. Not the sort of thing you'd expect if he'd been tapped up.

Looks boys it a pretty piss poor article in a shitty tabloid. I put it up to see what reaction it would get and I think it's been taken a bit seriously. If the lad turns his back on us it would be pretty hard to swallow but looking at the situation it seems doubtful. His old man is welsh and he has played at youth levels for us for several years unlike Collison. He was called into the squad and rightly so but didn't get capped, my grievance was that if he wasn't going to feature he should have been allowed to return to the 21s for their important games. However, speed decided not to give him 5 mins for probably a good reason, but we've just won three big games and risen 70 places in rankings so lets not be too harsh on the manager. I think Williams will be a good player for us and unless we see some serious or genuine articles then let's not panic..
