Signed for Tranmere. Still only 24, so very much potential to improve and it sounds as if he will be the no1 for their Project.
Anyone know why he was released by Rochdale?

I thought he was out of contract, not released.

Wiki says "released". Perhaps he was too expensive for Rochdale.

Hes another one thats been talked up to buggery. Although not on here this time, Ive seen fans of numerous lower league clubs rave about him on message boards and I think he was interesting championship clubs at one point...
But in reality he cant do any better than Tranmere, even as a free signing.
EDIT: I should add I suppose that if he is guaranteed 1st team football at Tranmere that makes it a bit more understandable. Doesnt fancy becoming another Jason Brown obviously.
Out of interest does anybody know where our Jase is gathering splinters these days? Last I heard, Blackburn let him go.

I always thought that he must have a good agent to keep getting linked to all these clubs, because whenever I saw him for the U21's he looked pretty average, to put it kindly.

Flynn dropped a massive bollock keeping him in goal against England. I would argue that had he brought in Hennessey we would have qualified as Fon Williams gave goals away in the home leg. We were warned in Romania when although we won the game Fon Williams looked shaky as anything. I would hope his temperament has improved somewhat since then.

If he's getting paid to play then he's good.
But we have a few more much better, he does get a lot of coverage considering he's a lower league guy.
I know from my County experience that lower league managers will sign anyone available to cover a position as opposed to scouting them properly.
It's just a merry go round -just like the managerial business.

ffwtbol.co.uk/2008/10/15/close-but-no-cigar/ Interesting view on Fon Williams form the Ffwtbol archive. 'Maybe too nice to be a professional footballer' I must say that at Villa Park I felt really sorry for him at the end. He just sat there in his goalmouth looking utterly despondent. I don't doubt how much passion he has for playing for Wales, but I think he must have been aware at that point that he'd just cost us a place in the U21 finals.

I agree with what people are saying about him. It's brutal - but he was largely responsible for the defeat against the english.
That said, for a player who is pretty much a nonentity in real terms, his name seems to constantly crop up in the media.
Anyone bored enough to trawl some club forums to find out how fans have viewed him?

Totally convinced that if Wayne played over Williams we would have qualified. Remember seeing him in tears at the end of the away game cos he knew he was at fault for a number of goals. The Setanta commentators tore him apart in both games although he made a great save in the first leg when it was 2-2.

That was 1 of the 1's he should have saved, but never mind!

Whilst we are on about THAT play-off, for all the stick Stuart Pearce gets no-one ever remembers the tactical masterstroke he pulled by taking off Cattermole who was having a mare against Ramsey and replacing him early in the match with Michael Mancienne who went on to mark Ramsey out of the game. It was the turning point in the second leg as we were well on top at that point and looking like we would go on to win, but lost momentum with Ramsey's influence nullified.
Not many managers would have had the bottle to make a change like that so early, even on the back foot.

I wouldn't call it a 'tactical masterstroke'. It was a no brainer really- Rambo was making Cattermole look so stupid I almost felt sorry for the lad. Almost! Yes, he was quieter when Muamba came on (pretty sure it was him and not Mancienne RD) but England were very, very lucky that Vokes hit the post with a few minutes left and one of our subs (Nicky Adams perhaps?) skied an absolute sitter. Listen to Pearce's interview afterward that match- sheer relief, the sould of a man who knows he's just got out of jail if ever I heard it.

It was Muamba not Mancienne who came on for Cattermole.
Mancienne started and looked very good (in both games). It was Steven Taylor who was struggling to keep Church in check

That England produces so many player like Steven Taylor and Lee Cattermole is a big reason why they struggle to get past the QFs in tournaments. These boys are big, strong, get stuck in, shout a lot, have 'good engines' etc but technically, at the highest level they are found wanting and they don't play with much intelligence.

Was it really Muamba?! If so then I stand corrected.
Oh and FF- I think when describing Cattermole you got the word "player" and "thug" mixed up.

Cattermole is a great bet to take on any bookie that offers the "name a sending off" at 10/1.
Will Hill I think does it? One of them does. Hes good for 3 a season, which is a profit when you take his bans into account!

Absolutely. It actually seems like he WANTS to play for Wales. That's very refreshing indeed.

I remember seeing him play for the u21's when we beat Romania 3-0 away. He pulled off some stunning saves. Give him a chance I say.

Brown did ok vs Mexico. Myhill hasn't taken his chance, though it would be unfair to scapegoat him for Serbia as they were all garbage, but he was very poor indeed.
If OFW is playing regularly and well he slips ahead of Price and Brown, possibly Myhill. But I wouldn't chuck him in for Scotland. Too big a game for a gamble. If we lose that, then fuck it, cap him vs Croatia

OFW was very poor in the final leg of the 21s playoffs against England and arguably lost us the match.
However, he looks like he has developed well and is doing the business now. He should be in over Brown who is back on the bench for Aberdeen and who surely needs to cement a place somewhere before his career is over. Price is a good keeper so should be included.
Myhill
OFW
Price

With Hennessey out and Myhill too, we're strugling for keepers.
Jason Brown is on the bench at Aberdeen and Lewis Price on the bench at Palace it's a problem.
The best options in terms of keepers who are actually playing at the moment at Owain Fon Williams - but he's playing at 1st Division level.
The other option is Kyle Letheren at Kilmarnock - who are 3rd in the SPL. Probably not quite ready - he is 24, but as he's only played about 6 1st team matches in his career - and none before this season. But he's playing at the highest level of all our keepers.

Boaz Myhill is rated doubtful for the World Cup qualifiers.
He could be out for two weeks after undergoing a minor operation on his thumb.

i dont know much about ofw apart from his under 21 performances where he looked a decent shot stopper but struggled with crosses, was very reluctant to come for them,i dont think hes the biggest so that might be the reason for it?
what is up with jason brown?there must be something about him that sees him constantly benched, the few times ive seen him play he doesnt seem like a bad keeper,i thought he was excellent vs mexico
