Good luck to Regan!
Out of curiosity, why would Newport be encouraging Man U poaching one of theirs? Would they get good compensation?

Good luck to Regan! Out of curiosity, why would Newport be encouraging Man U poaching one of theirs? Would they get good compensation? According to someone on our message board the max pay out under the FA's youth scheme is £109,000. A pittance for those youngsters who turn out world beaters. £109,000 isn't going to further our cause a great deal either. Possibly extra payments depending on success of any youngsters. Newport have a policy of letting anyone go who wants to further themselves up the pyramid. I suppose it encourages youngsters to sign initially. In Regan Poole's case there's no need to get too excited, how many promising youngsters make it at all?

Mark Poyser @mapoyser · 8m Edinburgh was also delighted with debut of 16 year old Regan Poole "If he keeps playing like that he won't be around here for much longer"

His wiki page says he was at Cardiff City before joining County. Interesting. There's certainly a buzz about him

Promising. Good to see NC bringing a couple of young Welsh lads through. If Lee Evans goes on to play for the senior team soon (as I expect him to) he will be the first Welsh international produced by Newport County since..? Paul Bodin perhaps?
(btw raptor, I'm not having a go! ...just asking)

As I mentioned on another thread it was Steve Lowndes and Nigel Vaughan I think.
Regan Poole is at Fulham this week.
However Edinburgh hopes to keep him - who knows?

Regan Poole was an unused substitute in Wales' U17s 0-0 draw with Russia this afternoon. The next game is Tuesday v Belarus.

Rumour has it he's Fulham bound. A fee is involved.
I think he must be on his way somewhere as he was offered a contract a month or two back and has not taken up this offer from County.
Good luck to the lad.

Fulham would be a good move, they're a club clearly looking more to the future by investing in youth. George Williams an example of that.

Fulham have shown that that they can develop youth players to a high standard, so I am hopeful that it is a good move for him.

He played yesterday as County beat Pompey 1-0 and went 3rd. His last game for Newport? Not a bad way to leave.
Good luck to him at Fulham. Hope he plays first team games for them soon.

Great move for him. Hopefully he will be a Starting Prem CB by the time he's 20. That would be great for us. Along with Joe Walsh and Ash Taylor, we have some good quality coming through at CB.

What a great opportunity for the lad, however you have to ask questions of Cardiff as he is going to a side in the same league. Is this because they already released him as a kid?
As for Walsh and Ash Taylor, neither would be anywhere near Williams, Collins, Chester or Dummett at the moment.
As things stand they would both probably need a move to a top championship club at the least to be considered.
Encouraging that these players are coming through but we had the same hopes for the following centre halves in recent years
Wilson Riberio Ryan Green (remember him)
even Nyatanga (who some hoped would turn out to be top class)

I think Jordan Williams at Liverpool could be the best bet for us though, whether this will be at centre half is another thing.

He has what? 1 cup appearance for Liverpool? Walsh is getting regular game time and Ash Taylor is part of the world best defence ATM. And I meant for the future, not any if them getting a game now. There has to be another Chester out there hasn't there? Someone who is dual qualified who we don't know about who will just pop up and choose us. Hopefully be a striker.

Liam O'Neil of West Brom qualifies for us...not sure if he's interested to play for Wales, but he did tweet me back a couple of years ago confirming that he can play for Wales but he wasn't sure if the Welsh coaches knew about it...they do!

Yes, I'm sure the Aberdeen defence is the best in the world. Ash Taylor is 24 and playing in a league which is very poor. Most people on here say Matthews shouldn't get picked unless he moves to a better league so the same applies to Taylor. Also, it is telling that Scotland haven't rushed to cap him and they have crap centre halves. Jordan Williams is making excellent progress at Liverpool and I would be prepared to wager that he will have a far better career than Ash Taylor. As for Joe Walsh he needs to step up a level and apparently Crawley turned down a sizeable bid for him last season. He needs to be playing championship football next season and see where he goes from there.
