Seeing as Mourinho has completely lost his marbles, who knows who will and who won't get a chance.

Mourinho's implied he will play a load of youngsters tomorrow because of the europa league final on wednesday. Will that include Poole?
I'm not sure where his standing is at the moment - he's obviously nowhere near the first team cbs but how does he compare with the other youngsters? I've seen a couple of young defenders in the squad over recent weeks but haven't heard anything about Poole. How highly rated is he by the club? Let's hope Mourinho's crap record with youngsters doesn't affect his development.

Let's hope utd play the youngsters so we can get another 3 points tomorrow. But Jose is fuming about the amount and scheduling of these games for sky or bt sport and as a fan attending games I'm fed up with these bizarre kick off times as well they do not consider fans travelling.

Of course they don't care, the fans they care about are the ones sitting at home or in the pub watching through their subscription!

No Regan Poole in the ManUre squad today. Another youngster that needs a season out on loan to see how he gets on.

He was a fool to go to Man Utd, he is obviously nowhere near the first team and will probably end up having 4 or 5 loan spells before ending up at a lower league club.
Could of gone to a championship team and been pushing for a first team place if he is good enough or even had a season at Newport playing plenty of games.
On the other hand I'm sure he is set up nicely financially and that must be a massive pull for anyone.

If you or I were 17 and Man Utd wanted you, we would not turn it down, you just don't turn that kind of thing down for Newport County. He will hopefully go on loan to League 2 and get some much needed experience though, young players are pampered way too much and 75% of them won't have pro careers by their mid 20s.

He could do better than league 2, he's already had a full season with Newport in that division. He should aim for League 1 at least

Agreed, calling someone a 'fool' for leaving Newport County to go to Man United is ludicrous. The chance was there and may never have come around again. He did the right thing by grabbing it with both hands even if it doesn't work out in the long run.

I take back what I said about him being a fool, but it was a shortsighted decision, there were other clubs interested where he would probably been able to get some first team experience.
If his career doesn't develop he will regret taking the decision which was probably based on finances (probably for his agent) rather than career development.

If his career doesn't develop he will regret taking the decision which was probably based on finances (probably for his agent) rather than career development. Nah that's too cynical, it was probably based more on the romanticism of playing for a club like man united, rather than financial greed. But I do agree it might not have been the best move for his development, although it's still too early to say. To make that move work, you have to be one of the best in the world in that position for your age group. If you fall short of the mark you'll be stifled by the quality of other youngsters and possibly stagnate through the lack of exposure to high standard football.

Hopefully he'll get loaned out next season to the Championship. A very competitive league with some very good strikers to mark. The better teams nowadays are full of international players.

I think Man Utd have been trying to sculpt Regan into being a holding midfielder rather than a centre back for which he was utilised at Newport. My guess is because reasons of physicality as I reckon he's a bit under 6 foot. Perhaps it could be a good thing that he'll have top coaches shaping him with a view to him playing at the highest level possible, in accordance with whatever his ability and physically ends up being at 21/22.
Let's just hope that Man Utd continue to see him as a priority youngster rather than a body to shoehorn into whatever position for youth games.

Yet there is still a myth about 'international quality' as though it is another step beyond everything else. Championship-quality is certainly international-quality.

Joined Northampton on a season loan. Good luck to him, will be a good testing ground and I think he'll do well.

Yeah. Could see the pair of them at Centre-half. Although there is a chance Poole might play in midfield due to his height which, after watching Toulon, would be disappointing

Great move for him, he needs competitive games at this point in his career to further his development.

Justin Edinburgh is their manager.
Was he at Newport the same time as Poole?

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink gave Regan a start away at Wigan tonight. Hopefully he can get a run of games, would be good to see more of our young dragons playing first team football.

Haven't been tracking his progress, but just saw on twitter that he's been playing 90 mins week in week out recently and has done well. They have a few injuries in defence so he's played as a cb recently having spent most of the season as a cm. From what I've seen of him, he doesn't look a good enough footballer to become an elite cm so I hope he establishes himself as a cb!

Dragon soccer are reporting that Regan has now departed Northampton (now relegated) after his season long loan spell.
From looking at his stats there, he played 23 League 1 matches - 20 of them were full 90 minutes. He turns 20 next month, so plenty of time for him to try and get more matches, perhaps in a Championship side.
