Dragon soccer are reporting that Regan has now departed Northampton (now relegated) after his season long loan spell. From looking at his stats there, he played 23 League 1 matches - 20 of them were full 90 minutes. He turns 20 next month, so plenty of time for him to try and get more matches, perhaps in a Championship side. Do you think a Championship side will be looking at him? More likely another League One side. But games as you alluded to its whats important in his development.

I have to admit, I don't really have high hopes for him anymore. Clubs don't seem to want to play him as a CB where he did well as a 18yo with Newport, and from what I've seen he doesn't have the skillset to be a good midfielder.

Used to go to Cardiff away games with him, nice lad, but cant see him making it at championship level at the moment.

Poole to turn out for Man Utd Under-23s on Friday? (kick-off 19:45 BST) ..... Regan Poole is pleased to be back at Manchester United after his season-long loan spell with Northampton Town and could be involved against the League Two side in Friday night's live MUTV friendly (kick-off 19:45 BST). www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/regan-poole-is-pleased-to-be-reunited-with-his-man-utd-teammatesThe Welshman is training with Ricky Sbragia’s Under-23s, who have recently returned from Austria, where the squad began preparations ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League 2 season. “It’s good to be back,” Poole told MUTV. “I obviously know all of the lads from when I was here before. “I had a good two years here before I went out on loan and there are still a lot of familiar faces. A few people have moved on and it’s good to see them doing so well.” Poole played 24 games for Northampton last season and found the experience crucial in his development. Even though there was plenty upheaval at the club, and they were unable to avoid relegation, it was all part of a learning curve for the 20-year-old. “I enjoyed it,“ he said. ”Obviously, I went there because of the manager [Justin Edinburgh] who I worked with before [at Newport County], but the first couple of games didn’t get off to a great start and he ended up moving on. I went through a fair few managers in my year there but, at the end of the day, I got around 25 games. It was a little bit of an up-and-down season for me, but it was a rewarding experience. “These days, it’s harder and harder getting out on loan and you’re never guaranteed to play wherever you go. The aim for a young player to go out on loan is to get as many games as you can and the more games you play, the better it is for you, and that was my aim. “It’s a good experience for anyone going out on loan, I would advise it as early as you can really because, if you can get as many games [as possible], it can only benefit you.” The youngster is accomplished in defence and midfield and gained vital experience in both positions during his year away from Old Trafford. “I was in and out of centre-midfield and centre-back,” he explained. “I played most of my games in central midfield, I think, and then, towards the end of the season, I moved further back when there were a few injuries.

First clean sheet in a while.
County fans - how did he get on?

Genuinely believed that Poole was going to make it after his move to Man Utd - either by going through the motions there, or a successful loan to a Championship club.
Doesn't look like it now, and agree with Welshiron, don't think we'll see him in a Welsh shirt anytime soon - if ever.

Well, apparently he made a big difference on the weekend. County were on a run of games without a win in the league. I'm not saying he's going to be a World beater, but I wouldn't rule him out of being a championship player in the future.

I wasn't particularly impressed with him on recent Wales U23 duty, but then again pretty much no Welsh player did (apart from Woodburn and Sheehan - and look how he's doing). But it's far too early to write him off. Why do Welsh fans keep doing this?

Far too early. 2 years ago Harry Wilson was hardly pulling up trees at Crewe and at 20 Gareth Bale was playing understudy Benoit Ekotto.

Personally haven't written him off but face facts he is now playing for a mid table league 2 side.
A long way from international football these days

Seems to have made an impact. They were letting in goals left, right and centre before he joined but it's two clean sheets in his first tow league games, sandwiched by conceding a solitary goal against middlesborough.

only saw bits of the game but he seemed to play really well. I was always unimpressed with him in midfield, I definitely think he's an out and out defender. I wouldn't write him off just yet!

Great game. It's hard to gauge, with Newport's style of play, whether international football will suit Poole. But a career in professional football at lower league level is the least he can achieve - probably better than that.

I seem to recall him mostly playing in midfield for northampton. Seeing as he has spent so much time in midfield, you would think he would be a ball-playing centre back so should be suited to international footie, but just not good enough on the ball to be a midfielder.

In fairness I think it was right back/ right wing back - so he was out of position, but he still didn't look like he had any star quality about him. When I realised who he was I kept a close eye on him and really you would not have known that he was the one attached to one of the biggest clubs in the land. Ash Taylor was one of the centre backs, as the scoreline suggests- he was worse!
