I don't think publicly slagging off a player has ever worked, he really is a prick In the end Luke Shaw proved Jose Mourinho wrong, as did Marcus Rashford although yeah, I'm not sure of anything Mourinho did or said actually worked. During his first spell in charge at West Ham, David Moyes publicly criticised Declan Rice and he bounced back strongly. It doesn't happen at all often though, it's very rare and there's pretty much zero chance of it working for someone like Barton. How much was that down to the criticism compared to the players' actual ability though? Many of Rashford's problems came from injuries not being dealt with properly and Shaw I'd say improved in spite of Mourinho, not because of him (hasn't Shaw publicly come out against Mourinho?). This kind of stuff doesn't work and it baffles me that some managers still do it, it makes the managers look insecure and like they're lashing out after their own failings are uncovered, Steve Morison in particular was bad at this for Cardiff Collins has had a good season and been linked elsewhere with Rovers not looking like a Championship side any time soon I imagine all this kind of thing will do is hasten his departure

That Page quote makes no sense considering he called up Broadhead who's a year younger than Collins
I understand calling up young players, but is 25 old now?

Wants to ‘bring in younger players’, yet Collins and Broadhead are roughly the same age, and the former has a much better record at League 1 level.
Page really does come across completely clueless……I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt know Collins’ goal/assist tally.
Finding it very hard to support Page when he talks with zero sense half the time.

Now that Bradshaw has been selected, it looks like Collins will be the new ‘Bradshaw’.
Seems like we need someone for us to be outraged about them not being selected.
If Collins had been selected alongside Bradshaw then I reckon Broadhead would be the ‘Bradshaw’ instead. Haha.

It’s obvious that Page makes things up as he goes along

Fair point that Page could have been clearer in his communication, but having just read the article, I think there's a bit of an overreaction here. At no point does he say that he went for Broadhead over Collins because of the difference in age. He was referring to Vaulks and Collins at the same time, and explaining part of the reason they haven't been selected is because he's bringing through a new generation. He was probably referring more to the likes of Jordan James and Luke Harris.
As for Broadhead vs Collins, it was probably a marginal call but I can't see a reason to have a moan about it. They're both playing at the same level, but with Broadhead in much better form currently. And whilst I completely agree that Joey Barton is an absolute whopper for the comments he made, it does suggest that Collins has certain deficiencies in his game.
As for Hedges, he's been dropped from the first team for the last two months. Fair play for scoring his third goal of the season tonight, but I don't think he merits a callup over our other wide forwards. Potentially he deserved it more than Wes Burns if we consider him as a wing back option, but again it's hardly a shocking omission.

Seeing both of them play I’ve always thought Broadhead has a higher ceiling. Collins has done very well, and I’m not discounting him. But, Broadhead has a lot of talent. Everton and injuries have really held him back.

Christ, this is terribly archaic management, there's something very wrong with Barton, he's ill.

If Brennan, Kieffer, Bradshaw & Broadhead are all fit then he gets nowhere near the squad. However he would be ahead of Mark Harris, but possibly not Luke Harris.

Has clearly done enough to earn an opportunity in the Championship. I think lower down the table would be great for him as he needs to keep getting minutes. I mean I'd love to see him at Cardiff, but not sure we could afford him (sorry state we are in!)

26 at the end of this season and still on 2 year contract with Bristol Rovers, who are unlikely to get promoted during that time.
3 goals and 1 assist since 02/01/23.
Most championship clubs not having money and Rovers not(?) desperate to sell.
Sorry to say it but think he'll be a victim of the "what have you done lately?" culture, strange management of Joey Barton in second half of the season and a promoted club being safe so taking foot off the gas a little. One thing that could save him is if clubs value his youth career at Wolves and think this is potential finally being tapped into.

If he does similarly well next season, then there's a good chance of a move in January or summer after while still being a decent age.

Bristol Rovers name their price for Aaron Collins - (https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-rovers/bristol-rovers-name-their-price-for-aaron-collins-after-championship-transfer-interest-4134577)
Here are some of the main quotes;
The author; "There is interest from Stoke City, as well as another Championship club, who are in the play-offs."
Barton; “It’s going to depend on the fee, we’re in a great spot in terms of they’ll pay a premium for him. Scott Twine didn’t get Player of the Year in League One and didn’t score or assist as many goals as Aaron [and was sold for £4 million by League One MK Dons to Burnley]"
"Scott Twine wouldn't get capped by England, whereas Aaron in the near future could be a full international. If he signs for a bigger team than us, the likelihood is he is going to get an international cap."
"We took Aaron as a project really. He was a talented boy in League Two and a little bit lightweight. I still think he’s got work to do, and somebody is going to get the benefit of that. He is coming into his prime now"
“He’s a great lad and if the price is right it’s going to be tough for us, but I’m hoping no one meets his asking price and Aaron comes back.”
When asked what any opening offer should be: “Starting point? It has to be where Twine started [£4 million]. It will be a Championship club from what I’ve heard and it’ll depend on how the seasons finish. From what I have heard there are a couple of teams that aren’t Championship teams next year."
"Aaron is more appealing [than Jonson Clarke-Harris, Rovers's last big sale] because of the scope he has to improve with the international stuff and he is getting better. The fact that it’s not just me but the whole of the league has said he’s the best player in the league."

That's nice to hear from Barton, high praise from him which is not his usual, just makes you wonder what Page is looking at, it's obvious to say but the next move is going to be important for Collins and not sure Stoke would be a good move the way they are currently .

It certainly doesn't make me wonder that. Who would you drop to accomodate him? Barton may be talking up Collins now that he wants to sell him but only a short time ago, he was talking down his abilities and international hopes.
